About The Owner

I am a Wisconsin native and have 2 sons. I work as a Physical Therapist, and enjoy reading, hiking, and quilting in my free time.

My boyfriend is a steam fitter, and also a c130 loadmaster in the Airforce. He enjoys fishing, and motorcycling.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2010

Why The Owner chose Mercer

Growing up, my family had vacationed in the Great Northwoods for many years. I had many fond memories of time spent 'up north' playing at the lake. A few years ago, my own family actually rented Grandma Dorothy's for 2 summers, when it became available for purchase. I couldn't bear the thought of not being able to spend time at Grandma Dorothy's. We wanted to continue the tradition of spending time here with family and friends. We bought the place and have been spending vacations up here ever since.

What makes this cabin unique

I love the convenience of living just on the outskirts of town, but having the feel of being secluded in a lakeside retreat. We can walk or ride bikes into town, or to the beach, etc, many times a day. The kids are never bored because there is so much to do.

One of my favorite things to do is take a stroll on the trail near the house, either early morning, or at dusk. Often times I will spot deer or other wildlife along the path.

Farm Family on Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at your cabin was wonderful. We loved the location and the cabin. Our boys ages 14 and 16 loved the fireplace and kept us warm our entire stay. The kitchen was well equipt and we brought along things that you already had available. We liked the fact that we could park our truck in the garage. We would love to come back in the summer.

A few things we did notice that could be improved upon...I found a mold stained wash cloth in the closet, there was a decomposed mouse under the table in the livingroom (our oldest son disposed of it), we couldn't get any channels on the tv and the bed in the master bedroom sags in the middle and taking care of our own garbage was a strange expectation.

With that being said we would come back anytime. I can't wait to see everything in the summer. Thank you for having it available. We had a grand time. A lovely vacation was had by all.

A week in the Northwoods

  • 5 of 5

Grandma Dorothy's lakehouse was as described by the owner. It is spacious and comfortable and provides a great base to enjoy the waters of Echo Lake or the surrounding area. We made several day trips to a variety of interesting spots around Northern Wi and Upper Mi while we were here. Even during the height of Vacation season the lake was relatively quiet with only a few pontoon boats and fisherman on the lake at any time. Easy to get to town for restaurants and supplies. A great place to get away and enjoy a vacation like the good ol ' days.

We would recommend this rental to others interested in lakefront vacationing.

Fantastic North woods retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was all it was advertised to be and more! We wanted a place in the north woods on a lake to take my 80+ year old parents for a get away week. We were thrilled to find Grandma Dorothy's as the ramps down to the deck and dock allowed us to get Dad down to do some fishing. We traveled from our base north to Ironwood, south to casino, and around the flowage. Easy access to small town of Mercer, Wi. Great restaurants close by. Close to nice park and swimming beach. Boat, kayak, and Mountain bike, and some fishing equipment all available.

Home had everything needed for cooking, grilling out, relaxing, enjoying a fire outside or inside. Lakeside boathouse comfortable! Everything clean. Owner's very responsive and helpful! Already discussing going back next year!

Great place. Super Value.

  • 5 of 5

My family was here for a midweek stay departing on Saturday. Great lake. Wonderful house and boat house. Good fishing off the pier for kids. The house was so cozy and the kitchen had everything we needed. There are already puzzles, board games and books galore in this house. It has everything you need to unwind. The lake is a little busier on the weekend as expected. (jet ski's etc) Saw osprey, bald eagle and of course, loons. We also brought bikes and found good roads all over. Highly recommended. outdoorsy family from Chicago suburbs.
