Cosy enough for 2 but with room for a large family ...This is a beautiful house with a gorgeous interior (the owner is an interior designer) and all conceivable modern conveniences (even a Nespresso machine!). It is located in the village of Dunquin on about 1 acre, overlooking the world-famous Blasket Islands. Pamper yourself, relax in the idyllic setting and explore the surrounding country-side - some of the most stunning coastline in Ireland. The house is located close to Kruger's Pub and over the mountain from Paidi O'Sheas - another lively venue. Dingle town, with all of its amenities, is a 15 minute drive away - this truly is the best of all worlds, nestled in the peace and tranquility of the countryside with some top class restaurants to hand. The Ceann Sibeal links golf-course is a 5 minute drive and the beach a 3 minute drive. But you may not want to actually leave this house - it really is amazingly therapeutic to gaze out at the Blaskets from the dining table with a glass of wine, whatever the season ...
Currently living in Dublin after spending many years living in the leafy village of Kew in London. I love Kerry, it is a place I go to to recharge my batteries and get away from it all.
Sharon Beggan purchased this house in 2002
My husband and I decided to build this property after we found the perfect site for a house in Dún Chaoin, just west of Dingle. As a child I have lots of happy family holiday memories from this part of Kerry. It used to take us about 7 hours to drive from Dublin to Dingle in the '80s! Thankfully with the new roads it takes 4 hours to drive from Dublin now.
We love going to Dún Chaoin at every opportunity we get as a family, a couple or with groups of friends. When you are sitting at the dining table looking out over the ever changing seascape and the Blasket Islands, all your troubles and everyday stresses are left behind. I love the winter, on front of our big open fire, listening to a howling gale and watching the rain come in from the sea. The children love going to Kerry too, there is so much to do in the house and it is their down time too. Relaxing and recharging , complete soul food is how I see our visits to Dún Chaoin. Our home is quaint with modern comforts, a stylish interior and has beautiful views.
Dunquin, Dún Chaoin is a small village with a lot of pride. At the western tip of the peninsula, steeped in history and intense beauty it is the gateway to the mesmerizing Blasket Islands. The area around Dunquin is known for it's strong Irish culture and glorious, untamed landscape. Kruger's bar will entertain you at night but the village is only a 15/20 minute drive west of the lively town of Dingle with all it's amenities and a 5 minute drive from Ballyferriter with it's great pubs, restaurants and world famous links golf-course Ceann Sibeal.
Dunquin is on the famed Slea Head drive, one of the most scenic drives in Ireland on windy cliff edge roads, it takes you through breath-taking scenery to the neighbouring villages of Ballyferriter, Ballydavid and Ventry.
The Blasket Islands are celebrated for their extreme beauty, isolation, history and wildlife. The main Island, The Great Blasket is the only island that was inhabited over the second half of this millennium. The remains of the village and the utopian white sands full of seals have long drawn people from the mainland. A boat can be taken from the iconic Dunquin Pier or Dingle Harbour.
