From the moment you enter through the soaring Douglas fir trees in the front yard, you realize the feeling of “Tranquility.”
You are far away from the highway, and the only sounds you will hear are the captivating flow of the McKenzie River, the call of nearby birds, and the rustle of breeze through the forest.
The most memorable feature of the house will be sitting on the covered-deck...watching the mesmerizing McKenzie River flow by…so peaceful and tranquil.
The living room is a wide expanse of glass windows overlooking the beautiful river and the forested riverbank. From your couch, or chairs, you can enjoy the fireplace, or watch and hear osprey, ducks, kingfishers, and songbirds. Look downward towards the fishermen floating by who are fishing for steelhead, salmon and trout.
If nature’s beauty is not enough, there is an HDTV, a PS3, and high-speed internet for your further relaxation and enjoyment.
The kitchen is fully equipped and is situated to encourage lively conversation with family or friends, or gaze out at the forest through the front windows, or the river through the living room windows.
The spacious main bedroom has a king-size bed. The second bedroom has a queen-size bed. And, the third bedroom has 2 twin-size beds. Each bedroom has a beautiful view of the river, and plenty of comfort and closet space.
Local, skilled fishing guides can make your ‘fishing stories’ true! An Oregon State Salmon hatchery is a short walk across the street. One of Oregon’s most iconic covered bridges is just up the road. Drive across the nearby Leaburg dam to see the huge sturgeon at the Leaburg Fish Hatchery. In late summer, pick blackberries in the backyard for your breakfast, or to top your ice cream after dinner. Or, ride a bike down a quiet country lane to the pick-your-own blueberry patch, a beautiful 10-minute bicycle ride away.
The University of Oregon in Eugene is a 30-minute drive to the West. In addition to the shopping malls, there is a fantastic, leisurely bike trail for the whole family near the University along both banks of the Willamette River. Tokatee Golf Club is a 30-minute drive upriver to the East, and the 9-hole McKenzie River Golf Course is 5 minutes away. Hoodoo Ski area is about 60 miles upriver to the East on Highway 126. Side-trips to Portland, or the Oregon Coast, are a 2-hour drive.

Can't beat waking up on the Mckenzie River and hearing the water rush by outside your door. The cabin is older but in excellent condition. We enjoyed our stay and will be back to fully enjoy all that this area has to offer. John was great to work with and accommodated us with a last minute booking and arrival. Thanks again!
Review written by Carrie Conrad (Michael's wife)
My husband was able to fly out ahead of myself and my parents for our daughter's wedding in Springfield. So he was absolutely correct in telling me it would be perfect when we arrived 7 days later. First, the driveway is surrounded by huge trees nearly cathedral-like in the way they tower above. Awesome. The inside was not disappointing at all. Nicely spaced bedrooms, one with private bath, and great gathering area with chairs and couch that are on rollers to shift into the desired seating arrangements. Plush carpet felt wonderful on my bare feet and kept early morning risers creeping quiet. All the kitchen appliances one would want: stove with large oven, microwave, full size refrigerator, toaster, etc. Never turned on the TV once ... we were too entranced by the full length deck off the back. That quickly became our reading, eating, grilling, talking, drinking coffee, joking, and watching a fisherman catch a huge 3 foot long steelhead area! My 83 year old dad was thrilled to see the struggle and successful catch and gave the fisherman a round of applause. We walked only a few yards to the boat launch each day, where we saw multiple fish breach like whales out of the water and make huge splashes around us. Must have been pretty big salmon or steelhead. Loved going to sit on the stairs leading to the river from the house with my coffee just soaking in the sun. Nearly 90 degrees each day. And the house was kept cool everyday just by shutting up the place after letting the cooler air in at nighttime. Very much shaded, so very comfortable even in the heat of the afternoon. Boy did that deck get used! Plenty of towels and bedding and use of washer and dryer made things much simpler (less packing). I definitely look forward to returning, possibly when our daughter has a baby? Thanks for all the great memories and comfort of your home.
What a wonderful place to celebrate the holidays with our family. Christmas eve with a roaring fire in the beautiful fireplace...perfect! Great location, a beautiful view of the McKenzie River and we even saw Elk grazing across the river. The house is large, clean, and well maintained with ample ammenities. The owner is a pleasure to work with, very kind, knowledgable of the area and witty too:) We hope to go there again this summer so my husband can fish and I can spoil our little granddaughters.
Enjoyed the house, a nice tranquil spot along the meandering portion of the river, lots of room, good beds, ample amenities, perfect for those who have a larger party. The owner was extremely nice and helpful. Highly recommend!!
As part of my visit with my son and his family in Eugene, OR, I rented the River house on the beautiful McKenzie River for a nice fishing getaway. The house is very clean and comfortable and has everything you need, including a beautiful view of the river from the back deck . John, the owner, has some great tips on activities and sights to see, and was very helpful. We went to the nearby fish hatchery and let my grandkids feed the trout and marvel at the huge sturgeon in the display pool. We found some good fishing spots up and down the river. We even picked blueberries at the blueberry farm down the street for a delicious healthy treat.
We stayed at this cabin while visiting our daughter at the University of Oregon. We couldn't believe how beautiful the setting is. When he says you're right on the water he means it. The cabin itself was very comfortable, plenty of room, and very clean. We rode our bikes around the streets and found a wonderful road about a mile up with a covered bridge and the most beautiful lush forest area with access to the river. We even saw a deer. The location was great, about 30 minutes from Eugene but far enough away to feel like we were on a mountain vacation. Great stay!
