Cypress Hideaway is the perfect location on Carmel Point, just 2 blocks from the famous, white-sand Carmel Beach, and 3 blocks from Carmel River Beach in a quiet neighborhood. It is a lovely multi-level, redwood home with high open-beam ceilings that is spacious yet retains a cozy feel. It has a wood-burning fireplace, unique with a log built into the hearth area that came straight from Carmel River Beach about 40 years ago. It was designed and built with a love of nature, in a 'U' shape surrounding a large California Oak tree that sits beautifully in the center portion of the property. A lovely, large hedge of Cypress trees offers the utmost feeling of privacy in the yard and house. The house has a nice front sitting patio, beautiful for morning coffee, a deck off the master bedroom, and another patio off the 3rd bedroom/studio. Cypress Hideaway has 3 nicely-sized bedrooms (one king bed, and two with queen beds), and 3 baths, one with a sunken tub above which is a skylight where you can gaze at the stars above. It has a small, but fully functioning kitchen with all new appliances, dishes, utensils...etc. Located within walking distance from the historical Carmel Mission, downtown Carmel with myriads of shops and restaurants to enjoy, and Carmel Mission Ranch dining overlooking Carmel River Beach. Cypress Hideaway is a perfect vacation get away for families or couples wanting to experience the beauty and charm of Carmel living.

Built in 1973 by my parents, we have kept this home in our family and have many fond memories in it. Family and friends gathered at our house over the years and shared great times there and at the nearby beaches. (We even won the grand-prize in the Carmel Beach Great Sand Castle Contest one year -- what fun!) I have fond memories of exploring tide pools at the beach as a young teen coming from the cold of Illinois where we'd moved from. The wood design was my father's (an artist) and the preservation of the california oak tree, and the cypress hedge was of the utmost importance to him when building the house. We have kept our home as a vacation rental so we can enjoy visits ourselves, and so we can have others also enjoy it and have great Carmel memories.
The woodsy feel of the house is special, and the many windows make you feel like you are outdoors. But with the tall hedges you also feel the utmost privacy. A wood-burning fire in the living room is so cozy. Of course, the short walk to the beach(es) makes this such a special location.
We had a mini-family reunion arranged at last minute in Carmel . I frantically started searching for a house to accommodate travelers from East and West Coast.
The pictures of Cypress Hideaway do not do it justice. The house is very private from the front, so hard to image the surprise and enjoyment we all got at the unique floor plan and the way the house wraps around a very large tree in the back. All bedrooms have access to individual decks that called us to set out and enjoy the privacy and ambiance.
Located within walking distance to the River beach and Carmel beach was all the more appealing. Morning walks along the Carmel coast are breathtaking. Definitely a lovely experience all in all! Thanks for allowing us the pleasure of a Cypress Hideaway stay.

This house was FANTASTIC! We could not have been happier with the location, close to everything and so very comfortable, cozy and clean! It was even better than we expected. It was our first visit to Carmel, but will not be the last, and there is NO WHERE else we will stay! Doug was super friendly and helpful. Thank you for the recommendation on RIO GRILL it was wonderful! Thank you Nancy for being so helpful and friendly with all my questions, and I appreciated your fast responses to all my emails.
We had a fabulous time!
We were in town for a family wedding and this home was perfect for our needs. The bride was able to relax and do last minute prep. Away from it all, but convenient to everything ! Living and dining areas are apart from the bedrooms so the late-nighters and early-risers didn't bother the sleepers. Fully equipped kitchen for farm breakfasts and late night snacks. In a beautiful residential neighborhood - short walk to both major beach areas - even surfing. Longer walk to/from the Carmel downtown for dining/shopping. (bring a flashlight as Carmel doesn't have many streetlights !)
Nancy is a wonderful hostess, very responsive to questions and needs.
We stayed here for a whole week in March. We were escaping one of the most difficult winters in recent years back home. Were we ever in for a treat. Though we did manage to bring 12 hours of rain with us, the weather for the most part was high 60's, low 70's during the day and mid 40's at night. I have a very active family and we took every advantage of the natural beauty of the Carmel Area including the Los Padres National Forest, the Ventana National Wilderness area, Big Sur, Pinnacles National Park and of course the charm of Carmel. My wife and I ran three days on 17 Mile Drive, seeing miles of the best that real estate the Monterey Peninsula had to offer. We hiked over 25 miles and along with hiking in the amazingly diverse flora of Central California (redwoods, Madrone trees, Eucalyptus, cacti, cypress etc.) we also got to see the aquatic wildlife the region is so famous for including sea otters, grey whales, harbor seals and sea lions. At Pinnacles we saw a condor! And every evening we were able to come back to this wonderful home, take a quick shower and either cook in or eat dinner at the plethora of restaurants in and around Carmel. We especially liked the Rio Grill and the little breakfast place with the deep fried waffles. Caretaker Doug gave us some good advice about hiking in the area and responded to our questions and concerns promptly. We began as 5 with my daughter's boyfriend staying only one night, and dwindled to three when my daughter left to go back to work in another couple days. The house easily slept 5 and was in itself a beautiful and restful place. I would recommend this place to anyone; the experience was amazing!
My sister and I took our 91 year old golf-loving father across the country from the frigid and snowy northeast to sunny Carmel for a short escape from the cold. The house was perfect. We each had our own bedroom and bath and joined together in the common spaces. The house is extremely well-equipped and located very close to the beach. Sunset walks to the beach and hearing the bagpiper play at sunset was an extra added attraction. Golf for Dad along the 17 mile drive and a day at Big Sur were some of the highlights of the trip. This is a perfect house to rent and I certainly hope that we will be back sometime soon! Thanks Nancy and Doug!
My husband & 11yr old twins LOVED this home. We had the best time & my family said it was my best vacation home pick I've done! I loved how the home was so roomy with 2 master suites (on different floors) & the 3rd bedroom had a roomy sitting area - we couldn't hear or find our kids sometimes! I love my family, but it was also nice to have space from each other on our trip & a great house to play hide & seek too! Location to the beach is perfect with short 2 minute walk (or 10 homes away) from 1 beach & maybe a 5 minute walk to the other beach & it’s also located close to town. Pebble Beach & Monterey are a quick 10-15 minute drive away too. The home is quietly nestled in a residential neighborhood & it was the quietest place we have ever stayed on any vacation ever! Super quick responses from the very nice owner on any questions I had before & during our stay & our deposit was also quickly refunded the day after we left. This home literally felt like our home away from home & we are already trying to figure out when we can escape our hectic lives & visit again!
We arrived on Friday afternoon and met with Doug the caretaker who was very nice. The house was so warm and cozy with tons of space and an excellent location for the beach. It was all of 2 blocks away and a very pleasant 2 minute walk. We had a fire one evening as the sun came down. We would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat. You can't go wrong staying here.

Due to levels and stairs, I do not rent our home to families with toddler/preschool children or those under 5 or 6. I do not have safety gates on stairs. Older children love the house layout, levels and garden areas, as well as proximity to the beaches.
