WHAT TO EXPECT: This light-filled, lower-ground floor apartment with private gated entrance is part of a listed historic building that sits opposite the private garden of Eccleston Square. Known for its diverse collection of rare and tender plants, this garden square surpasses most in London, including the one featured in the popular movie 'Notting Hill'. Everything needed for day-to-day living . . . cafes, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, convenience stores, green markets, bakeries, health food shops, pharmacies, dry cleaners, and international newsstands . . . are all within a 2-10 minute walk.
PROPERTY DESCRIPTION: Greenhaven is newly refurbished by European architectural & design firms, air-conditioned/centrally heated and fully-furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique décor. By London standards it's very large (600 square feet) and includes living room/dining room area, galley kitchen, bedroom and bath. The apartment is designed with the idea of bringing the look and feel of the garden inside with a calm natural palette sparked by carefully placed bursts of color. Sixteen foot high ceilings and large windows in the main living/dining area contribute to its very open, light and airy feel.
LIVING/DINING AREA: The main living/dining area has a table with seating for four, a comfortable king-size sleeper sofa and armchair with electronic back/shoulder massage unit that lets you unwind after a long day of touring. The furniture is set in front of non-working fireplace and a built-in wall unit/library with a large selection of books on London, as well as English history and culture. Atop of the decorative fireplace is a 42” Smart (Internet enabled) Samsung flat-panel HDTV with separate sound bar for enhanced listening pleasure. There's access to 100+ channels, including CNN International, Sky News International and BBC World plus hundreds of movies on demand. I've lived in London for a few years, and I wanted to find a location that combined all of its best aspects at my doorstep: proximity to major sites, transportation, shopping, dining, culture and entertainment, but with a traditional London feel. Eccleston Square is it -- with an added bonus: the private garden that's only accessible to residents and their guests.
From the outside of Greenhaven, the view is a scaled-down version of New York's Central Park. You see the upper branches of trees, swirls of clematis, heady explosions of climbing roses and, here and there, the opposite side of Eccleston Square, London SW1 -- one of London's most posh addresses. When you get into the garden, you wouldn't know you’re in the heart of a world-renowned international city. When you smell the flowers and hear the birds sing, London seems to disappear -- yet all of its wonderful sights, sounds, tastes and experiences are right outside the garden gates.
Eccleston Square came about when town planner Thomas Cubitt, who developed it in 1845, had the idea of gathering everyone's back gardens together. Around the periphery, a shady walk takes you though arches of wisteria and clematis. For garden buffs, there are several unique specimen plants, including a handkerchief tree from China -- and art buffs will enjoy the irises, some of which came from Monet's garden in Giverny, France. The Garden Square has won many awards not only for its botanical beauty, but also for its well-integrated features, such as several brick patios, glass conservatory, tennis court, and play and BBQ areas.
I honestly cannot say enough good things about this apartment. My husband, son (9) and I stayed here for over a week in April and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish.
The apartment is extremely clean, open and airy, with tall windows to let in lots of light. It's located on a very quiet street and even though the apartment is on the lower level, we never heard anyone or anything. The location is perfect for tourists and centrally located with Victoria Station a quick 5 minute walk away and Buckingham Palace ~15 minutes away depending on how fast you walk.
The furniture and decor are gorgeous and the amenities provided are top notch. We felt so comfortable and at peace here, that we preferred to spend most nights in making dinner and relaxing in our place. The bed and sofa bed are extremely comfortable with cozy comforters and plush pillows. The apartment has absolutely everything you could ever need during your stay. The Nespresso, chocolate, wine and liquors were an added bonus that made our stay even more wonderful!
Paula and Natasha, who own and manage the property, were wonderful to deal with. Very prompt with their responses and outlined everything in a clear and concise manner. We were so impressed with this apartment that we also booked Paula's place in Paris.
Lizzie, who met us upon arrival at the apartment, is a sweetheart and was so kind and accommodating. She gave us a thorough tour of the apartment, pointing out all of the little things that you might miss and was an absolute delight to be around.
The private garden was quiet and clean and was a wonderful retreat for an evening cocktail or afternoon picnic. My husband and son spent a few hours over there throwing the baseball around while I got to catch up on some reading.
I know we will be staying here for all future trips to London!!
We loved the condo. Cozy, very clean and very well appointed. And very convenient to Victoria Station without the noise nor foot traffic. Plus, we also felt safe and secure. The private park across the street was beautiful and I think it kept the area quiet and residential. Would definitely stay again.
We cannot say enough great things about this property! The location was beyond ideal! Only two blocks from Victoria station. The apartment was extremely well designed and thought out. No detail left out. So cozy, so comfortable. My children (15 and 9) thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. It was nice in the mornings and evenings, after a long day of sightseeing, to spread out and relax. I loved having coffee provided for us! I loved having a bottle of wine and a nice selection of beers available to us at no charge! The bedding was comfy. The bath towels were plush and yummy! The private park was to die for gorgeous! I can't wait to go back to London in the summer to truly appreciate all the foliage and flowers in bloom. The car service from the airport was beyond convenient! Arriving into another country is stressful. To have someone waiting for you to drive you to your apartment, is priceless! Our greeter at the apartment, Cindy, was precious! We liked her so much, we begged her to stay with us the entire week! Sadly, she declined. I cannot wait to go back and stay in this property. The only bad thing I can say about this place......it's not mine!!!
Our family stayed in this fabulous flat last summer and cannot say enough great things about it. We travel frequently and often rent beach homes and flats to accommodate our family of five (two teenagers and an 8-year-old.) For many reasons, this rental is one of our favorites. First, it was the single best welcome we've ever received at a rental property - really enjoyed the quick and friendly tour of the flat and recommendations for groceries, directions to the Tube, etc. We have an active family and were very busy in London, so the ability to return to this quiet, incredibly clean, comfortable, bright, well-decorated flat at the end of each day was wonderful. My husband and I took our wine and cheese to the park each evening before dinner while our youngest son played and met new friends at the playground and our teens strolled the paths through the gardens. When we recalled our favorite things about London (high speed boat tour, Harry Potter Studio, Miss Saigon at West End, Tower of London, London Eye, James Bond exhibit at London Film Museum, etc. etc. etc.) our time in Eccleston Park was at the very top of everyone's list. The location could not have been more perfect - close to Victoria Station so everything was easily accessible, but quiet, safe and quaint. Truly perfect - we all hope to return soon!
I'm always a bit leery when booking a vacation property, but didn't need to be on this one! We loved London, and our trip was made even better by having such a great apartment! The highlights are: its location, which is a couple of blocks from Victoria Station and very close to shoppping, restaurants; its neighborhood is upscale, quiet, safe; it's furnished beautifully and includes a lovely kitchen, washer/dryer, wifi, internet, TV, etc; its private park (Eccleston Park) was great for evening wine and cheese as well as morning coffee; and the owner Natasha treated us so warmly. This is a great apartment. Go there.
My husband and I cannot say enough about the jewel of a flat that we stayed in while in London. Prior to seeing, we were somewhat concerned about the flat being on the first floor below ground; however, on arriving, we were surprised to find that the description of the flat was exactly as described. The interior was light and airy, designed with exquisite taste and looked far larger than 600 square feet. The location was perfect - only two and a half blocks from Victoria Station. From there we could go anywhere. Restaurants and grocery stores were within walking distance. The lovely private park across the street was a treat with its history and lovely old trees and unique plants. It was a respite after being out in busy London all day. My husband and I looked forward to the evening, when we were tired of walking throughout the city, to coming "home" to a peaceful,clean and beautifully decorated flat with all of the conveniences we needed. We had the opportunity to meet the delightful owner and learning that he and family have other vacation places in Paris and in California, we decided that we knew exactly where we were going to stay on our next trip to Paris. One last comment - on arriving, we had a small problem with the shower. As soon as we let it be know, it was fixed immediately. Excellent place to stay; great and responsive service; helpful in every way. We will be back!
