Wonderful, private and cozy cottage up in the forest of Kaloko ( directly above Kona town!). Situated on 5 acres and 2700 foot elevation, this cottage is surrounded by beautiful ohia trees and is at least 300 feet from the main residence. The owners live further down on the property. Wild chickens and native birds abound.
Kaloko is a special place with cooler weather than you will find down in town. It's nice to retreat up here after a hot day at the beach. Afternoon/evening rain does occur and it provides perfect sleeping weather. Evenings/mornings can be cool, so we recommend light sweaters/socks if you get cold.
We are located on Mount Hualalai right above Kailua Kona. This one bedroom house has a small deck on the front and a larger deck with yard in the back. Nice and secluded. Perfect for the couple wanting a romantic getaway!
10 minutes to the airport, beaches and shops. Hike the mountain trail, birdwatch or just relax on the lanai! Can sleep up to 4 with futons.
We have 2 rental homes on this property.: For those families that need a little more room, please inquire about our other vacation rental #186204! We will give families a discount for renting both cabins.
4G Verizon internet
Absolutely wonderful! Caroline and Scott are very friendly and we enjoyed meeting them. The cabin was the perfect size for just two of us and had all the touches of home. If you prefer to be away from the bustle of the resorts and the noise on Alli Drive, this is the place to stay. The washer and dryer were a huge plus, the bed was comfy, and the privacy can't be beat. This was our 3rd trip to Kona and we would stay here in the future.
The best laid plans...our flight was late and we arrived in the dark so even with excellent directions we missed the mailbox...found it easily the next day and our hosts were more than accomodating, refunding the first night (of 6)...
We loved the privacy, the comaraderie of the birds, the jungle trail up the road apiece, and the relatively short distance to everything...several day trips took us to the Holualoa Heritage corridor, an evening of Hawaian music by a local group, beaches, volcanoes, sugar plantation, Parker Ranch, waterfalls and botanic gardens...and a painted church too. We loved hiking on the mountain before the fog rolled in, and heading out only when it did.
Family activities and the main house are near but separate. We felt welcome but not intruded upon, and enjoyed the sitting porch and lanai as well...even the mosquitos respected our privacy! The chickens welcomed us with fresh eggs at the start of our stay!
As advertised, it is a great place to come home to after a day at the beach in the heat. The nights were quite cool...perfect sleeping weather...and the efficient furnace was easy to light in the morning to take off the chill. Having the washer and dryer in the cottage was so helpful to those of us who travel light. The king-sized bed was every bit as comfortable as any 5 star hotel.
But it is also the little things, like a container of sugar, a few spices, coffee and teas, some olive oil, a good selection of pots and pans and cooking utensils, sandwich bags and plastic containers to take on picnics, a cooler, a microwave, a full oven (can't remember if we actually used it though!) which all worked together to make our stay quite comfortable and eating affordable.
Thanks to Home Away that we found the ideal cottage for us, and to Scott and Caroline for their hospitality, well-kept property, and clean & comfortable guest house.
What a nice quiet, cozy clean, well stocked cottage in a lovely neighborhood. Owners very friendly and helpful with questions before arrival and good recommendations for some things to see and do during our stay. Location was convenient to town for day trips and other surrounding areas up and down the coast. Would definitely try to stay there again if we ever get back and would recommend to others.
Stayed here and fell in love with the Kaloko area. Great trail for hiking just up the road and a coffee plantation for am hikes. The owners are incredibly nice and helpful, true aloha spirit hands down. Can see thousands of stars at night quiet and secluded while still close to beaches, airport and all the fun! Everything you could need and more! Clean and comfortable felt like our own little home in Hawaii! Thank you for an unforgettable stay!
