TOO BEAUTIFUL FOR WORDS!

  • 5 of 5
I don't know where to begin to say how wonderful this guest house and property are - and the whole town of Montague just takes you back to another time. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves each and every day. It's been a week since we left there and I had to look at the vrbo pictures today to get my zen feeling back. The owners are absolutely the nicest people ever. The guest house is immaculate. There were eight of us (adults and teenagers) and we had plenty of room. It's a short walk to the lake but we drove most days just because we took the cooler, chairs, water toys, etc. We did the MacWoods dune buggy rides at Silver Lake one day (you have to do this-even the 80-year old in our group did this and she loved it), along with wine tasting at Fox Barn Winery, ate at the Old Channel Inn, and visited all the shops in Montague and Whitehall. It was all very fun, but the best parts were the morning walk/run on this peaceful property, the evening dinners and cocktails with friends on the patio, and enjoying beautiful Lake Michigan everyday. I can't wait to come back!!!!

CUTE COUNTRY COTTAGE

  • 4 of 5
perfect getaway, with the perfect location. with just a short walk done a dirt road and past the local tavern you are greeted with the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan. The cottage itself is a perfect cozy home away from home. Their wild gardens made you feel as though you were in a fairy tale setting. From the plentiful deer, small animals and many different species of birds including humming birds and even a Bald Eagle in the area during our stay only added to the charm.

WONDERFUL VACATION WITH FAMILY!

  • 5 of 5
What a charming guesthouse, minutes away from a magnificent Lake Michigan beach! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and so appreciated the hospitality of Kenn and Sharon. Our boys (4 and 6) loved the beach as well as the guesthouse - the hiking path through the woods in the back of the property added to fun! We would love to come back next year!

LOVELY GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
This was our second summer in the Montague area, and we were looking for a quiet retreat with easy access to our favorite activities. Like others have noted, the cottage was charming, with lots of room for family members to be all together or spread out after a long day. The kitchen was very well equipped - we made our breakfasts and dinners and had everything we could need. The local beach was lovely and a perfect distance for our children. The path through the forest is steep, but even with our gear the walk was very do-able. The location is also convenient to the local towns and not too far from the highway for accessing Michigan's Adventure, horseback riding at Rainbow Ranch, or other beaches. However, with the many thoughtful little touches in the house, we were also content to sleep and relax. A great retreat!

IDYLLIC COTTAGE; GRACIOUS HOSTS

  • 5 of 5
We spent an all-too-short stay at Kenn and Sharon’s guest house in August 2012. It was perfect for our family of 5, and could have accommodated more. The cottage is charming in every detail—from the pine-tree cutouts on the shutters, to the 1920s fixtures in the kitchen and bath, to the crystal doorknobs throughout. Family antiques make for an elegant, yet homey feel.
Having the owners on-site (their house is adjacent, though both dwellings maintain their privacy) makes all the difference. When we arrived, Sharon greeted us warmly and gave us a personal tour of the place. The guest house smelled clean and fresh, with delicious breezes blowing through the open windows. Simple bouquets of flowers from Sharon’s garden brightened nearly every room. We even found a plate of fresh brownies awaiting us, courtesy of our hosts.
The location is nearly perfect, with Lake Michigan an easy walk away—even with small children and beach gear in tow. The beach itself is gorgeous—squeaky sand, gentle waves, picturesque dunes, and very few other people. We had the place practically to ourselves! Note: there are no lifeguards, but there is what must be one of the world’s cleanest porta-potties near the parking area.
One slight drawback (or benefit, depending on how you look at it) is that we had no cell phone signal while at the cottage. That, together with the lack of cable (there is a DVD player and movies), makes this a great place to unplug and unwind, while the proximity to Kenn and Sharon’s home prevents the guest house from feeling lonely or isolated.
The nearby town is home to several interesting shops and galleries, as well as a coffee shop. The Old Channel Inn, just off the beach path, is a convenient place for a casual meal.
She and Kenn could not have been more gracious hosts. As we were packing to leave, Sharon noticed our damp beach towels and tossed them in the drier for us, then sent us on our way with a bag of hot peppers from her garden.
We hope to return soon and would highly recommend it to others looking for a quiet family getaway.

WHAT A CHARMING PLACE!

  • 5 of 5
We decided to take a last minute vacation before summer was completely over and came to Kenn and Sharon's guest house. It was so adorable and so cozy! We hadn't been to this part of MI before but the town was charming, people were friendly, and lots of places to walk to and the proximity to the beach was awesome. The cottage had everything we needed. Kenn and Sharon had left the fire pit and grill ready for us to use - so everything was simple and easy. Although it was a short vacation, they made it accommodating and easy - it was just what we needed. We definitely recommend this place...and we will definitely be coming back next summer. Thanks guys!
