East Machias in 'Way Down East' Maine is located a short drive from West Quoddy Head State Park & Lighthouse and Roque Bluffs State Park. The area is home to whales, porpoises, seals, eagles, osprey, puffin, moose, and bear. Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine shoreline. We have sandy beaches, bold coastal cliffs, coastal rain forest, wildflower meadows, and peat bogs. The area hosts three state parks, two international parks, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours provide the opportunity to observe nature up close and personal. You can also venture out in quiet exploration, gliding across the bay or an inland lake in your canoe or kayak.
