Our family has owned this beautiful home for 16 years. Originally from the New England area, we have four grown children who have lived in many parts of the country but always feel drawn back to Vermont. The Waitsfield area is a wonderful place to visit any time of year.
We bought the house because of its unique combination of luxury amenities such as the pool, hot tub, tennis court, grilling porch, sleeping capacity –authentic features including the original 1840 wood burning fireplaces and wood floors, area views, fruit trees, pond and stream, and easy access to year round recreation, from cross country skiing to downhill at Mad River Glen and Sugarbush Mountains, both 15 minutes drives from the house, to kayaking, road and mountain biking, hiking, fishing, and more.
While you’re here, it’s easy to eat every meal at home with the Viking stove to cook on and the two ovens to keep food warming. You can also head into town to the original home of American Flatbread Pizza (now sold in Whole Foods), and other charming restaurants. Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory in Stowe is about a 25 minute drive away.
Martha Jackson purchased this farmhouse in 1997
The Mad River Valley is a beautiful, charming and historic area. There are adventures year round, as shows in this feature in the New York Times travel section (use their website search to find the story and photographs). From hiking the Long Trail and mountain biking country roads in the summer to fall foliage and summer through autumn farmers markets, to skiing in the winter, it's a gorgeous place to get away with family, friends or colleagues.
Our property is nestled into Green Mountain area farmland and wilderness, providing a quiet retreat yet only 2 1/2 miles to the Old Village of Waitsfield. There are many activities to choose from at our vacation home -- ping pong, pool, the hot tub, country walks, and bike rides from the property. The area features kayaking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing, and fly fishing just minutes away.
