We are urban San Franciscans who always dreamed of having a property where we could get back to nature. We grew up fishing, hiking and exploring, and we can truly say we have found the perfect escape from our busy life in the city. It is a great pleasure to share our home with friends, family and guests.
The Owner purchased this house in 2010
Shingletown is a quaint community, just a few miles from Lassen National Park and surrounded by pristine lakes, streams and abundant hiking. We fell in love with the property's 20 acres which are home to deer, jack rabbits and countless species of birds. Even in Summer, Shingletown is never crowded. It feels remote, but it is only 45 minutes away from the Shasta Premium Outlets and the town of Redding and its historic downtown.
Looking at the skies from the backyard, you will be amazed to see so many stars!!!!
My family (of 16) and I had a GREAT experience staying at the Lassen cabin! Not only was the caretaker (Erik) present upon arrival to answer all of our questions, but there was also a booklet with LOTS of information regarding the property and things to do in the surrounding area. John & Isabel have done a great job with this cabin, everything from dishes to furnishings are not only of great quality, but also beautiful. We all had a wonderful time cooking large meals in the kitchen, which had ample supply of cooking and serving ware (great assets)! We also enjoyed all of the amenities that the home offered, such as the hot tub, fire pit, horseshoe pit, ping pong table, media room, bikes and snow sleds! Thank you again to the owners for opening up their home, it is definitely a place we hope to visit again in the near future!
Thank you Jackalopes Acres for making my mom's dream come true. She has been trying to get all the grandchildren together in one spot for years. My family (4 siblings, spouses, 6 grandchildren age 4-16, grandparents a total of 14 of us) selected Jackalopes Acres as our first ever family reunion/vacation. It was the perfect destination. My husband, 3 kids, and the dog drove from Idaho and had been in contact with Eric the caretaker who met us at the property. As we pulled into the red gate and took eyes on the estate we all took a collective sigh it was perfect. Eric was kind and understanding as we spilled out of the car as we all looked like we had been driving for 9 hours and had been up since 3am :-). We entered the home and it was really so stunning the pictures do not do the home justice. He gave us the run down on the property and the homes handbook. The rest of the group arrived later that day and they all had the same stunned reaction this was perfect! The room above the garage slept all 6 grand girls and the adults took the main house. We enjoyed hanging out at the creek, we saw more deer then we can count, lounging on the deck with cocktails, soaking in the hot tub after days of hiking, playing board games, and doing jigsaw puzzles, cooking meals in the wonderful kitchen. The kitchen is equipped with a plethora of spices and high end cooking utensils. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all perfectly though out and equipped with everything you need. The home is clean and beautiful. Outside of Jackalope Acres we hiked Kings Falls, went horseback riding, hiked at Lake McCumber saw a bald Eagle, and went swimming at Battle Creek Reservoir. I really just want to say thank you for opening your home to us and giving us a wonderful opportunity to enjoy each others company and enjoy the natural beauty of the area.
This is an exceptional vacation rental for families, and for couples sharing expenses. There are 22 acres of meadows and forest to wander, and decks where you can sit and enjoy the quiet beauty and bounty that surrounds you. The house is extremely well-equipped and well-managed, with (more than!) everything needed for a great vacation. There's something rewarding for everyone in a group to do: visit Lassen National Park with its thermal features and vistas, fish or boat in a wide choice of lakes and streams, hike forests with hundreds of miles of trails, and more. If you're looking for peace and quiet, adventure, sightseeing, or water sports, this can't be beat.
The home, property, owners, and property manager are all fantastic! We would highly recommend Jackalope Ranch to others!
I stayed here Thursday-Saturday with 7 other friends for the weekend. The pictures you see from the cabin is EXACTLY what the cabin looks like and MORE. Eric goes around to show you all the rooms you can use...the entertainment room stocked with fun boardgames, the kitchen fully stocked with pans, pots, utensils, etc! The garage has fishing gear to visit the nearby creek, which we used! This cabin made us fall in love with the woods, the hot tub in the back is something everyone should use and the firepit was beautiful!! We are going to make this an annual trip, everything is fully stocked. The bathroom had towels and bathroom supplies and cleaning supplies! There is firewood stocked and ready to go! The area is enclosed with beautiful trees and during sunset the sunlight peaks through the trees giving a warm glow.
I loved everything about this cabin, you will not be disappointed, it was incredible and I am very very happy there is a place like this to stay and feel at home. The cabin is furnished with blankets, pillows everything you need. You wouldn't need to bring much other than your clothes and food to cook with.
There is a game room with ping pong table, weights and yoga ball for exercising. There is an indoor firepit, oldschool and it makes you feel like you are just getting away from it all. We stayed during the day and grilled hamburgers, used the hot tub, played water balloon fights and went fishing for small fish in the creek nearby.
There's no questioning whether or not this is a good place, because..this is an awesome place that brought my family and friends closer together and created a lot of memories here.
My wife and I, our four kids and their spouses, and our 7 grandchildren (ages 3 months to 14 years old) just spent a truly wonderful week at Jackalope Acres. The home was stunning, very attractive, roomy, and filled with everything we needed - plus many extras. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this fantastic vacation rental!
In addition, John and Isabel were quite pleasant to deal with, and their property manager, Erik, could not have been more welcoming and more helpful.
The 17 of us feel most fortunate to have stayed there. I'm only sorry that I can't give it more than 5 stars. If you chose to stay there, you will not be disappointed!
Just returned from an idyllic holiday weekend at "Jackalope Acres." The owners could not have created a more comfortable atmosphere for our group (of 8) weekend getaway. The house was impeccably clean on our arrival; the property manager walked us through everything we needed to know and was available during our stay to answer questions.
The kitchen! Sometimes when renting places my friends and I bring our own knives, dishtowels, or obscure equipment because who knows what you'll find in a rental house. This was the best stocked kitchen I've ever rented -- from top-quality knives to a (well used) ice-cream maker.
The property is miles from the road and as a result is blissfully quiet. One barely hears neighbors; the most prominent noises were the wind and pleasantly chirping birds. There really is a cool creek running through the property.
All sorts of great "toys" available to renters, including a canoe, kayaks, ping pong table, and a fantastic media room.
All this plus it's just a short drive to the Manzanita Lake entrance of Lassen.
The pride of ownership in this house is extraordinary. Worth the journey from San Francisco or pretty much anywhere else!
The secret undiscovered North State region of California around Lassen National Park is uncrowded and stunningly gorgeous. Hiking, plus kayaking and canoeing (we have the kayaks and the canoe for you!), incredible fishing, biking (we have those too!), star gazing, a small world class restaurant, wine tasting...These are just a few of your options in our neighborhood! Not to mention the amenities at our house.
