LAKE ZIRAHUEN 'EL ALTO LUCERO' (THE HIGH BRIGHT STAR)

Patzcuaro Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

THE BEST SIDE OF THE LAKE.- El 'Alto Lucero' is a new house located exactly where you want to be, up high on the west side of Lake Zirahuen in a tiny and quiet community called Copandaro de Zirahuen. The highest and most panoramic view to the lake. Real peace and quiet are among our great assets in this lovely rural area, of course the view is unparalleled.

A beautiful pink paving stone and cobblestone road shaded by trees connects this slice of paradise in a 9 minute pleasant drive to Zirahuen town. Nevertheless, we have some small convenient stores 'tienditas' in the area.

Also on this side of the lake, 'La Troje de Ala', one of the best restaurants in the whole state of Michoacan. 'Miralago' is another great restaurant where you can enjoy an international menu.

Also happily located a few yards away, at a walking distance is 'Agua Verde', an ecological center of recreation and fun surrounded by trees. You can take a boat, ride a bike, ride a horse, play 'gotcha' and fly over the lake suspended in the air (Zip Line). Great place to have lunch and drinks after enjoying a few hours of adventure. Note: The restaurants and ' Agua Verde', are open only during Weekends and Holidays.

All in all, 'El Alto Lucero', is the greatest place in the area! ...oh, and please, do not forget to visit our website. Look for the links that appear bellow on this page!

About Alejandra Terroba

Hi, my name is Alejandra and my husband´s name is Enrique, we both are from Mexico City. We used to be in the advertising business but 10 years ago we decided to run away from all the noise and stress of the big city. First we lived in Patzcuaro and lately we had the greatest opportunity in our lives to move to Lake Zirahuen, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. We just finished building this new casita for rent which is near ours. We both speak English and are ready to welcome people interested in sharing this slice of paradise with us.

Alejandra Terroba purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Alejandra Terroba chose Patzcuaro

Being lake Zirahuen one of the most beautiful lakes in Mexico, we decided to sell our house in Patzcuaro and relocate in this magnificent area: It is quiet, gorgeous, not polluted. The water is a show that constantly renews itself. Local people are friendly and we are near the greatest colonial cities that have all the amenities, activities and services that you can find in big cities. Patzcuaro, Morelia, Uruapan, Santa Clara del Cobre just to mention a few.

What makes this cottage unique

The greatest view to the lake, real peace and quiet, clean air, lots of trees. Among other things, you can exercise riding a bike around the lake or hiking on the beautiful trails that abound near by. By the way.... did we mention that we have the greatest view to the lake???

A Second Time in Paradise

  • 5 of 5
This was our second visit to El Alto Lucero. My husband and I stayed there last summer and finally found time to go back to what we consider paradise. This time we stayed longer so we could have time to soak up the exquisite lake vistas and tranquility, as well as explore other communities. The cottage is lovely, with all needed amenities. The area is stunningly beautiful and very interesting. We felt well taken care of by Ale and Enrique. We also felt totally comfortable and safe visiting surrounding communities like Uruapan, Paracho, Patzcuaro, and Santa Clara del Cobre whose artisans are exceptional.

A Matter of Security

  • 5 of 5
We just came back from our holidays in Michoacán.
What a nice experience.
My wife, who was born in Canada, and I planned for long time this trip looking for finding my roots.
During many months has been released warnings regarding security in this specific Estate of Mexico.
Please let me tell you that the current Local and Federal Government has implemented several measures of security.
You can walk peacefully in Zirahuen, Paztcuaro, Uruapan, Morelia, without any concern.
El Alto Lucero is unique, considering is located in an strategic point of the hill form where you can admire the nature and amazing lake view.
Alejandra and Enrique are a wonderful couple taking care of this beautiful place.
We can´t wait to come back in October.
Of course we recommend to make Alto Lucero your point of interest in Michoacan Mexico.
Thanks guys for making this trip unforgettable

Nature at its best

  • 5 of 5
The only thing I did not like about our eight day visit to "El Alto Lucero" is that it went by too too fast.
The house is very comfortable it has everything a couple or a family of four individuals needs to enjoy the great nature the state of Michoacan has to offer. There were plenty of supplies including dish soap, hand soaps, coffee, salt etc. There were plenty of linens and towels.
We felt very safe in the area and the neighbors were all very friendly. The walk around the lake takes about three hours and you may encounter people walking or running along the lake. There are a few shops that offer you something to eat at a very reasonable price. Don't be afraid to try a dish along the road. I had an amazing flower squash quesadilla and another one made out of mushroom for very little money. Also had white atole that was delicious.
A suggestion is to avoid the restaurants that only open during weekends and holidays. The food is not that good and it is over priced.
I Really enjoyed the pretty views around the lake. We enjoyed the patio very much the house has a grill in the event you want to BBQ. The sun was magnificent. Although the owners are next door they give you a hundred percent privacy. Even though we had beautiful views of the lake as we drove in, the view was breath taking as we walk through the front door.

Driving to Zirahuen

  • 5 of 5
Dear friends,
as a woman traveling alone by car, I had certain misgivings concerning the situation in Michoacán.
So I definitely feel the need to tell you that my trip went super well !
The roads were in perfect condition, and the discreet but visible security at the toll gates without being intrusive, gave me a sense of safety such that my aprehentions vanished and I could enjoy the beautiful scenery of my 3 hour drive from Mexico city.
Needless to say that once in Zirahuen, Alejandra's and Enrique's wonderful hospitality , as well as the beautiful accomodations, made for a perfect vacation gettaway !

Everything you could want and more

  • 5 of 5
We are half-way through a three-month stay at El Alto Lucero, and we find the experience to be alternately blissful and stimulating and quiet and fun. All are possible because of the breathtaking lake, the lovely casita, the diverse environment, and our social, sensitive, and generous hosts. First and always, there’s the lake itself, a constantly changing work of art and nature from sunrise to sunset to moonrise and back again. The casita, refreshingly simple and comfortable. Lots of color and light, a cozy fireplace, a large terrace overlooking the lake, great wifi, dishwasher, washer and dryer, flat-screen TVs in both bedrooms with cable available—modern and traditional at the same time. Set off from the road to maximize the view, but close to our hosts for connection and support. Next the location: perfect for those, like us, who come to Michoacan wanting more than one experience. There’s an adventure park within walking distance for tourist-oriented boating, riding, and zip lining. There are two first-class restaurants within 10 minutes’ drive. The tiny town of Copandaro and the slightly larger Ziruahen are set on the lake in the middle of avocado orchards and corn fields--it’s not uncommon to shoo cows from the gate when you go out in the morning—and on fiesta days there are parades or pre-hispanic dancing and costumes at the little local church. Twenty minutes away by car is Patzcuaro, a Pueblo Mágico and one of the U.N.’s 100 historic world treasure cities. An hour away is Morelia, the Michoacan capitol—a busy international metropolis with a spectacular historic center. Both Patzcuaro and Morelia offer myriad opportunities for art, music, traditional culture and crafts, historical sightseeing, eating, shopping, and people watching. And at the end of a bustling day, you return to the seclusion of the zen-like lake. But the most attractive asset of this multi-faceted experience are Ale and Enrique: an award-winning composer and a former public-relations executive and world traveler who are available as little or as much as needed to provide the amenities or to invite you to meet their equally interesting friends, depending on your need. They are the ones making our stay here unique—their counsel and friendship, their willingness equally to share their lives or afford us our privacy, have created a rich and unforgettable experience. We wish you the same.

A Gem!

  • 5 of 5
There are many excellent reviews of this little jewel, for good reason.
We were there at the end of the rainy season and the countryside was lush with many flowers, the air clean and the sunsets lovely. We especially enjoyed the various bird sightings.
On recommendations from friends, we brought food to prepare simple meals. The kitchen is well equipped and there is an outdoor grill. It made our trip very relaxing.
I brought along various knitting projects and, unfortunately, left a couple behind when we left. A call to the owner confirmed that my bag was there. Alejandra kept it for me until we were in the area and could stop by to pick it up. Just an example of the kind treatment you can expect of the owners.
