We (2 adults, 2 kids) went with two groups of friends and their kids at the end of August 2010. 12 of us all in all. The first impressions of the chateau were... wow! huge! The photos on the site don't really bring across the vastness of it - the ceilings must be 4m high! Internally, things were all fine - a bit "shabby-chic" in places; but that added to the character of it all for us. The kitchen was well stocked - although we didn't really do it justice - preferring instead to eat out for a lot of the time! Most days we went on day trips - there's a lot of nice food and wine around the area!! There's also a fair few things for the kids (9-15) too - I'd definitely recommend a trip to the Indian Forest - a complex with zip-wires through the forest. Great fun for everyone (although not for the faint-hearted). Most evenings we were out the back (front??) for al-fresco dining (ok - bbq!) and drinks :) One evening the weather wasn't great so we stayed in the main lounge and lit a HUGE fire! Fergus (the owner) said we could just use fallen wood, and the kids had a great team-building exercise collecting it from the grounds. Must be great in front of the fire in winter, especially with a nice Cognac! The layout of the chateau suited itself well to our group. We put the kids down one end, the adults in the other. Both sets loved it- they could stay up late and make as much noise as they wanted - and the others didn't hear a thing! Brilliant! Can't say we saw much of the chateau grounds, just the lawns really, and of course the pool. Even though we were there at the beginning of September, the water was still around 20C. Nice thing about the pool was it had small ledge all the way around, so the kids who weren't great swimmers felt more at ease, as they could stand on it while holding on to the side. The owner (Fergus) was actually there (in his apartment bit of the chateau) for the first few days of our stay. He was very friendly and gave us lots of tips on wine, where to go, and things for the kids to do. All in all, we had a fantastic holiday- great craic, with great friends! The chateau certainly isn't Versailles - full of expensive period artifacts etc; it's a place that's more down to earth and has been lived in. Considering the price we paid, it was great value for money!
