Just minutes from Hearst Castle and Paso Robles with over 50 wineries, Cambria offers art galleries, unique shops, antiquing and outstanding restaurants. Past tenants rave about their experience and recommend the house to their friends, colleagues, etc. for honeymoons, anniversaries, and wonderful family retreats. We hope you will come and add your memories to the happy aura of the house!
My wife and I spent a wonderful week here based on a great review by our friend, and we couldn't have been happier with our decision! The house immediately felt like home, and we look forward to visiting again. The first thing that you see when you arrive -- after a steep climb past the historic and quirky Nit Wit Ridge –– is a simple garage with a flat roof and slanted door, framed by palm trees, with nothing behind it but sky. As you descend the many stairs (worth every step!) down the hillside, sections of the staggered house are revealed, as are glimpses of the coast. The wide open lot to the right, which is bordered by a wooded ravine, was an unexpected bonus: no neighbors in sight, a fawn visited almost every night, and turkeys arrived each morning to devour the birdseed (provided!) that we put out. The multi-level house, with its many interesting angles and spaces and skylights framed by thick wood beams and rafters, is full of character and endlessly inviting. Cozy fireplace/TV room with built-in seating on the lowest level; dining area and well-appointed modern kitchen and super sunny sun room with million dollar views on the main level; a relaxing loft-like den full of books and warm light a few steps up; a cute bedroom and convenient bathroom with shower comes next; and on the top floor, a spacious master bedroom with wide, tall banquette windows, and a deluxe en suite bath with glass shower and deep whirlpool tub. There are sweeping views of Cambria's Main Street far below, and the hills and ocean beyond, from both rooms. (Make sure to catch the sunset from the romantic, semi-secret little balcony!) Leave the windows open, and the distant sound of crashing waves will lull you to sleep. Finally, there's a large, tree-shaded deck just off the dining area that features a huge hot tub with powerful jets, a table and chairs, a charcoal grill, and a pair of lounges. The neighboring houses are pretty close on this side, but we rarely felt too crowded or uncomfortable. If you have time after checking out Cambria's antique shops, boutiques, and restaurants — and maybe Moonstone Beach and Hearst Castle -- we highly recommend making the short drive down the coast to Morro Bay, with a stop in Cayucos along the way. Epic scenery, an endless beach, and a boardwalk and marina full of places to eat, drink, and shop. (To access the big beach north of Morro Rock, turn right onto the unmarked dirt road that’s just past the main entrance to the park.)
This is a truly fantastic house: well appointed, great views, close to the beach and the center of town. We had everything we needed to live comfortably, including a patio, hot tub, well-stocked kitchen, and gas fireplace. You can see the ocean from multiple rooms (or even while taking a bath!), and there's plenty of natural light. Cambria itself is a charming town, close enough to wine country, Hearst castle, and Big Sur that all can be done as a low-stress day trip. There's also great hiking trails in the region, and a surprisingly good food scene. This stop was the highlight of our PCH road trip, and I can't recommend the house highly enough!
My husband and I chose this delightful Cambria house for our anniversary getaway this year and were more than happy with our stay. The house is so cool and unique, and we loved all of the different levels and rooms. The master bed and bath were well appointed with gorgeous ocean views, the kitchen had everything we needed, and we adored the lower living area with the fireplace where we hung out each morning to catch up and each evening with wine and music.
Our only complaint was the overwhelming chemicals in the hot tub made it unusable. I did contact the owner who tried to get it serviced by the local company they use, but there was no evidence they ever came. I was disappointed we weren't able to use this feature of the house, however, Donna was fast to respond to try and fix the issue, which counts for a lot.
It was definitely hard to pack up and leave our blissful four days in the Cambria House!
We could have stayed forever. This house is interesting, fun, and very comfortable. Each room and nook has a little different personality. The deck and hot tube were devine =>. pack light as there are many stairs, but well worth the negotiation. We would love to go back and stay longer.
My friends and I all live within an hour's drive of this lovely home and chose it for a weekend away from our mom duties. There are a number of different areas in the house to sleep and we all felt that we got "the best place in the house" for each of us. One slept in the master bedroom with its incredible view (and where we all had coffee in the morning), one slept in the cozy den-like smaller bedroom, one slept in the sunroom and called it her "terrarium" and another slept by the fire, feeling like she was in a cabin in the woods. The hot tub was lovely, the neighborhood was peaceful (and a good running workout!) and the kitchen had every appliance we could need, including an extra insulated coffee carafe so we could have two coffee pots for different tastes! Staying here was just what we needed to rest, refuel, and re-energize.
