2 hours south of Provo and 3 1/2 hours north of Las Vegas lies Fish Lake, Utah. Fish Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Utah and one of Utah's most beautiful mountain lakes. Measuring six miles long and a mile wide, the lake's 160-foot depth and crystal clear waters provide some of the West's finest year-round fishing. It is a great place to get away, and also to hold family reunions. There are different rental cabins available, campgrounds, and also the famous Fish Lake Lodge.
Fish Lake Lodge is a lodge in the truest sense of the word. Under construction from 1928 until 1933, and built of native spruce logs, the lodge measures 80 X 320 feet, and is one of the largest and most impressive log structures in the United States. A restaurant is available in the old Fish Lake Lodge close to the cabins during the summer season. A second restaurant is also available at the north end of the lake May thru September.
FISHING: Although Splake and Rainbow trout are commonly taken, the lake is especially famous for its 20, 30 and even 40-pound Mackinaw lake trout. (Any Mack under 10-pounds is called a ”pup” and not considered worth keeping by local fisherman). Boat rentals are available at one of the 2 marinas.
WINTERTIME: Ice fishing, Cross Country Skiing and Snowmobiling. Sitting 8,800 feet in the Southern end of Utah's Wasatch mountain range, Fish Lake provides the perfect setting for a variety of winter activities from late December to early April. Surrounded by innumerable high mountain meadows and trails, the Fish Lake area offers some of the very finest snowmobiling and cross country skiing anywhere in the United States. You can ride snowmobiles right from the cabin. Fish Lake freezes over completely, and you can snowmobile across it as you head out for your day's journey. Also very popular is ice fishing on the lake during the winter. The kids will enjoy playing in the snow, the adults will love the quiet and peaceful surroundings, good food, family memories, and great friends. Fish Lake Lodge closes during the winter.
SUMMERTIME: Fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding and scuba diving. Fish Lake in the summer offers a refreshing change of scenery and climate from those hot and hectic summer days. Imagine relaxing and enjoying the beautiful vista of the lake and its surrounding cover of spruce and aspens in moderate 70 to 80 degree temperatures. Send the boys out on one of the rental boats to fish, and the women can stay and play in the cabin. You can communicate by walkie talkie with the people on the lake. No better fishing than that! During the summer, they hold church services in the old lodge. The park rangers also hold different info classes on Friday night and Saturday on different topics. The kids will love to make their 'crafts' they do as they teach the kids classes. Church services every Sunday in the old Lodge. Fish Lake, due to its crystal clear waters and challenging spear fishing, is one of Utah's most popular scuba diving areas.
ATV USE: There are great ATV trails around the lake, but you can not unload the ATV's at the cabin. On the east side of the lake on the mountain there are 4-wheeler trails with great overlooks of the lake and cabins. North of the lake there are some great ATV trails near six mile by Johnson Reservoir.
CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL MONUMENT: Is 38 miles from Fish Lake. There are great hiking trails, ancient Indian petroglyphs, horseback riding, rock climbing, mountain biking, historic Fruita schoolhouse, blacksmith shop, and a year-round visitors center with museum & bookstore.
