LUXURY 5 STAR UNIQUE PROPERTY LOCATED IN A CHARMING CORNISH WATERSIDE VILLAGE

Golant House Rental Photos and Description

Four Elegant Bespoke Bedrooms, 3.5 ensuite bathrooms, sleeps 9

The Sunday House, is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, in the ricerside village of Golant, ideally located on the west bank of the Fowey Estuary, an area of natural beauty and one of England’s loveliest estuaries. This stretch of the Fowey River inspired Kenneth Graham's to pen 'The Wind In The Willows'.

Golant is an ideal base for exploring South Cornwall, with many excellent beaches in the area and absolute breathtaking coastal walks. The sandy beaches of Polkerris, Readymoney (Fowey) or Par sands are all within 5 minutes by car. Carlyon Bay (6 miles) also has many excellent beaches as well as a golf course. Even in the high of summer the village of Golant remains one of Cornwall’s best-kept secrets as a peaceful waterside retreat.

Golant its surrounding villages, Fowey, Lostwithiel, Charlestown, Polruan, Looe, Lerryn and Polperro still remain beautiful, quaint and antiqued to ensure and offer escapism.

The Sunday House: The Sunday House, award winning in design, is a converted Grade II listed Victorian chapel circa 1896. The greatest care has been taken to remain intrinsically faithful to the spirit of the original chapel , while creating a thoroughly comfortable, modern living space, with a high degree of luxury. Golant and Fowey offer wonderful opportunities for the sailing and walking enthusiast. Golant is only 3 miles from the picturesque harbour town of Fowey, which can be reached by road (3 miles) or by boat (2 miles) along the beautiful River Fowey, the setting for many of Daphne du Maurier's books. Fowey is a mecca for yachting and offers a variety of unique shops and boutiques, inns and restaurants, as well as sailing and fishing. The Sunday House is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, ideally located on the west bank of the Fowey Estuary, an area of natural beauty and one of England’s loveliest estuaries.

WHAT TO DO:: The sandy beaches of Polkerris, Readymoney or Par sands are all within 5 minutes by car. Carlyon Bay (6 miles) also has many excellent beaches as well as a golf course. Today most places are touched by the commercial world, Golant and its surrounding villages, Fowey, Lostwithiel, Charlestown, Polruan, Looe, Lerryn and Polperro still remain beautiful, quaint and antiqued to ensure and offer escapism. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, The Blue Reef Aquarium, The Eden Project, Bodmin Jail, National Seal Sanctuary, Charlestown and Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Museum, Bodmin & Wenford Railway, The Minack Theatre, The Tate St Ives, Falmouth Maritime Museum, Daphne du Maurier Festival, China Clay Country Park & Museum, Lanhydrock House, Fowey Royal Regatta Week, Crealy Adventure Park, Castledore are all close by.

The Village Pub: This local is not a business - it's an event. Sure it is made by an excellent selection of real beers, by a decent choice of well cooked, unpretentious pub grub, a top notch setting by the river etc. etc. However, the main ingredients in this mix is the customers themselves - the committee meeting at one end of the single room whilst other regulars chat around the open fire. In the summer months for those who would wish to sit and contemplate the value of life whilst watching black, long necked cormorants skim the waters of the Fowey as they race up river to dive for mullet and sea trout.

What more could you want other than the occasional meet with a famous rock band calling in for a pint between sessions at the nearby Sawmills Studio, or the joy of listening to the landlord displaying his talent on the guitar whilst accompanying one or two other local residents sharing their vocal and instrumental skills, (and there's no charge for the cabaret).

About The Sunday House: The Sunday House was presented with the Gold Award, 2009, 2011 & 2011 for exceptional quality of accommodation and customer service from Visit Britain. This is addition to our five star rating.

An uncompromising pursuit of excellence encompasses every aspect of the Grade II listed Sunday House; from the sourcing of period hardware and reproduction balustrades, to the hand chosen high thread-count imported linens.

Combining an imaginative fusion of original period features, contemporary custom design and exceptionally clever use of space, coupled with high specifications and exquisite attention to luxurious detail.

The Sunday House offers guests holiday accommodation of the highest quality and style. The Sunday House's elevated position affords enchanting views of the river Fowey from the upper levels and the secluded south-facing patio area. A small stream flows a steep course down the bank to the side of the property and supplies the calming and gentle sound of running water.

Wonderful Unique Property

We drove down from Sussex and arrived late at night at the Sunday House. Turning off of the main road we drove down a steep lane covered by trees and arrived in the sleepy fishing village called Golant. If Bilbo Baggins has walked up the road I would not have been surprised. Golant is the sort of place where the world stops...zero mobile reception and the possibility to relax and hear the silence. The house is a converted church with very tall ceilings and the owners have cleverly worked out how to place 3 bedrooms and a kids "den/bedroom" into the old stone building. Golant is on an estuary and be careful when you park your car near the pub 100 meters away from the house...the tide can rise and "wash" your car. The house is cosy and has all of the mod cons and my only negative point was that the church organ does not work! The incredible Eden Project is nearby and we visited the beautiful beach called Lantic. You can hire sea kayaks at the bottom of the lane near the water and explore the estuary.

“Could not have asked for better!”

My husband and I rented the Sunday house along with a group of our friends over the bank holiday weekend. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The house was beautiful, every room unique and decorated to the highest standards. The house was fully stocked with everything we needed. It even had lovely touches like warm bathrobes to lounge in and a heat lamp to sit on the patio with. Everyone enjoyed there stay so much, I can not recommend this place enough. We are already discussing our next stay!

“Great Family Reunion in Cornwall”

  • Submitted: Feb 21, 2013

We booked the Sunday House for a family reunion In Cornwall. All members of the family, young and old, were impressed with the house. The kids loves the children's room and there was enough space for 6 adults to co-exist without falling out. The house was well presented and had the wow factor with high ceilings, an old organ and large windows. Golant is a very pretty village, we tried out the local pub and the restaurant at the Cormorant hotel which were both good. We also used the private chef recommended by the Sunday House one night which was an excellent experience. Overall I would definitely recommend the house as a great self catering option.

“Great time at the Sunday House”

  • Submitted: Feb 21, 2013

A family of 7 with 2 toddlers and a little baby stayed for a week in August and loved it. It's very atmospheric, comfortable, spacious and everything that we needed was there. To be quite honest, it's perhaps not ideal for those with toddlers because there are quite a lot of stairs but, having stayed before, we just knew to take our travel stairgates. We enjoyed the spacious lounge on an evening, the comfortable en suite bedrooms with fla t screen tvs and drinks out on the terrace in the sun. Golant is fantastic, parking fairly nearby, a lovely local pub and a great walk to Fowey. We expect to return.

"We loved The Sunday House! You have a beautiful house. We were only in at night we went everywhere, we were stunned at the amount of things to do and see in the area. For a non-sun holiday (for October the weather was great) we had an amazing time.
Hope to be back next year.
Many thanks to Louisa for making us so welcome."
