This charming cottage sits near the shore of Lake Michigan amidst low dunes. It is shaded by large conifers and hardwoods. It has a screened porch and deck, great for vacation relaxation. In five minutes you can walk to a gorgeous, wide, clean sand beach, ideal for sunning and swimming. You can walk north for miles along the beach. If you're ready for more serious exercise, you can set off running or biking nearby shaded roads or pick up designated bike trails. It is truly a beautiful location. The owner's adjacent home is well maintained with flower and vegetable gardens. The walk to the beach takes approx 10 minutes.

This is a non-smoking cottage. We do not allow smoking inside, outside or at our beach. Thank you for your consideration.

Our cozy cottage is nestled in a stand of mixed large conifers and deciduous trees. With lake breezes, it is cool even on hot days. You can snooze on the deck, read on the porch, or watch videos. Walking down steps to a wooded path, across a bridge over the original White Lake Channel and over the final dune you will find a beautiful Lake Michigan wide sand beach. Beach chairs are provided.

The neighborhood contains a mix of cottages and year round homes (including the owner's home). Nearby is a popular 27 hole golf course, and a charming little restaurant, the Old Channel Inn. Biking is excellent along shaded streets or on designated bike trails, with interesting stops along the way. Five miles away, Montague is a quiet, pleasant town with antique shops, a yoga studio, and a soda fountain with the best malts you will find. It also has an art gallery, a mini-golf, and the Book Nook and Java Shop (with wireless!). Adjacent Whitehall also offers a number of interesting shops, including the eclectic Hokey Pokey with a wonderful array of gently used home furnishings, Posh (clothing), Harbor View Grill, The Dive Restaurant, numerous pizza places, and the Thunderbolt Gym. Several good restaurants are located in Muskegon, 15 miles south. Between Montague and Muskegon, Michigan Adventure provides a water park and roller coaster type rides for families.

You will find a boat launch (boats 16' and under) at the end of our road (Lau Road). It sits at the junction of White Lake and Lake Michigan. Bring your canoe or kayak and you can easily access either lake at this point.

Within a 30 minute drive you will find horseback riding at the Rainbow Ranch and a canoe livery, Happy Mohawk.

This is a an excellent get-away for those seeking a peaceful, beach vacation.

A perfect getaway

The cottage on Lake Michigan was perfect! The small cottage was clean and well appointed. The walk down to the beach is beautiful, but make sure you have flip flops for the hot sand when you head back in. The beach is very quiet and you have all sorts of room to spread out and toss the frisbee.
The towns of Montague and Whitehall are lovely places to visit. The Arts Council of White Lake put on concerts on Tuesday evenings throughout the summer. The Montague farmer's market offers a great selection of fresh local produce and Montague foods offers a pretty nice selection of foods for a small town market.

Michigan Vacation

The Lake House was a wonderful retreat! We are always looking for interesting places to visit with our children and this cottage was close to many different attractions for us to discover. The cottage held many amenities and was very clean. We were all very comfortable for our family of five. We visited during a week when it was not too hot, but we found that if we kept the fans running we stayed cool and were comfortable at night. The owners and rental person were very generous and kind. We enjoyed talking with them throughout the week. They had many suggestions for activities for us to do. We enjoyed the bike trail very much, along with the city park and farmer's market. We also enjoyed Dog N Suds, Country Dairy, the Silver Lake area and of course Michigan's Adventure. But our favorite was the beach area and swimming in the lake! The kids built many sand sculptures and couldn't get enough of jumping the waves. My husband and I would definitely recommend this cottage to others and we hope to return in the future. Thank you for a much needed relaxing vacation!

Montague Lake House Cottage

My husband and I spent two nights at the cottage. We found it clean, well maintained and comfortable. The kitchen is small but well stocked with everything needed to prepare meals. A shaded “sun room” in the front is a nice place to relax, having ample chairs, lamps and even reading materials; it faces the main house, beyond which one can see Lake Michigan, and invites the breeze inside. The large porch, also with a distant view of the water, is a great place to enjoy breakfast or afternoon read. The only flies in the ointment are the very small, hard to navigate bathroom, and the equally small bedroom (there are two bedrooms; we stayed in the one facing the water). I know that different people have different preferences re: bed firmness. That being said, I found the bed too soft.

One couldn’t ask for nicer, more helpful hosts. And the location is perfect: A short, lovely walk around the main house, down through woods and over the dunes takes one to the beach, from where one can walk long distances in either direction. It’s also a quick drive into the picturesque town of Montague and other destinations like the Hart-Montague trail, the taste-tempting Country Dairy, and other attractions on the west coast.
