A Mountain Rose is a cozy, luxury, two bedroom home in the magnificent pines and cedars of Pollock Pines in the Sierra Mountains. The trees are bountiful and their smells are relaxing and refreshing!
Our home is located two miles from Hwy 50 and about 50 miles from both Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe. Just a quick drive to the famous Apple Hill or Placerville.
Our little house in the woods is a great place for a romantic getaway, families, or friends. It is decorated in a fashion to make everyone's stay feel extra special. It's not like a musty old cabin in the woods. Our brand new hardwood floors and carpets help to make our home even more charming. We have complimentary WIFI for those who just can't leave technology at home. Please come and enjoy the relaxation and smells of the pines after a day of adventure and fun!
Our well-stocked kitchen has been recently updated, so it is a delight to prepare meals for family and friends. You may enjoy eating at our breakfast bar or at our dining room table that may be extended for larger groups. Maybe you would enjoy BBQing and eating outside instead?
We have a wonderful cozy fireplace to warm you up or you may want to venture outside and enjoy our fire pit and gaze into the night sky to check out the stars. You may want to roast marshmallow and make delicious s'mores! A Mountain Rose is like camping in luxury!
At A Mountain Rose, we have many activities for the family, including an array of board games, croquet, and even a ping-pong table. We have a TV and offer many DVD's for your enjoyment. We belong to the local homeowner's association, so you may enjoy the two swimming pools (Memorial Day-Labor Day), basketball half-court, tennis court, disc range or other activities. There is something to keep everyone busy!
Nearby is the very popular Sly Park Recreation Area with the beautiful Jenkinson Lake. It has 645 acres of surface water and great fishing opportunities. The lake has a boat launch and a boat rental facility. (Kayaks, canoes, pedal boats and row boats) Of course if you want to bring your own boat, we have plenty of parking. Swimming and water skiing are allowed, but personal water crafts are not. In the winter, you may go snow shoeing, sledding or just play in the snow. It's just a spectacular setting for many outdoor activities!
For the Apple Hill (Camino) lovers, we are less than ten miles from this special area! In April there is the Apple Blossom Festival. In the summer is the cherry and berry harvest. In the fall months, the traditional harvest season is in full swing. You can enjoy the cornucopia of fruits, ciders, vegetables, wines, baked goods and homemade preserves. Of course in winter, you can start your own family traditions as you cut down your own Christmas tree and enjoy the magic in the air! Oh I forgot, you may want to visit a local winery and bring some back to enjoy!
Do you love snow skiing? Then you'll be glad to hear that we're about 35 miles from Sierra at Tahoe or about 50 miles from Heavenly Mountain Resort.
We are about 15 miles from the charming historical 'Gold Rush' town of Placerville. It is a peaceful blend of old and new that offers something for everyone. There is a lot to do and you can easily spend the day exploring the area.
If you're into gambling, then Red Hawk Casino is about 20 miles away. They have slot machines, gambling tables, restaurants and entertainment.
There is so much to do! Of course, you can just sit on the front deck, relax and enjoy a book and your favorite beverage!!!!

My husband and I live full time in the San Francisco Bay Area and love the foothills and mountains of the Sierras.
Catherine purchased this house in 2011
We love the Sierras and decided we wanted a place to escape that had lots of trees and allowed us to relax. We wanted a place that felt remote, yet wasn't too far into the snow country (4000ft) or too far from modern conveniences. We were lucky to find A Mountain Rose! It almost feels like you're camping, but you're able to cook and sleep in luxury! We love our home in the mountains! We also wanted a place to share with our family for generations. We fell in love with A Mountain Rose. It is surrounded by pines and cedars. It's a quick walk to the heated swimming pools, playground, and tennis courts. It's about 2 miles to Sly Park Recreation area and about 35 miles to Sierra at Tahoe. It offers something for all ages!
Catherine was splendid to communicate with. She reached me by email and phone was responsive and friendly. Mountain Rose is not a big place but it's really nice - new hardwood floors, everything is well-appointed. We went skiing 45 min. away at Sierra at Tahoe. The beds are fantastic and the air mattress was comfy as well. No complaints - would definitely book it again.
What a lovely home and a relaxing place to stay while on vacation in the mountains. This home sits on a large lot surrounded by pine trees. It is so peaceful and tranquil there. My husband and I spent three wonderful nights in A Mountain Rose for a romantic getaway, and to do one of our favorite activities... wine tasting in the local wine country. You feel welcome the moment you step through the front door of this home. It is beautifully and tastefully decorated, but at the same time it has a very cozy and warm ambiance. The photos do not do this home justice. It is even lovelier in person. We had planned to stay in each night for dinner after being out wine tasting during the day. The kitchen is great! I am an avid cook, and I can tell you that this kitchen is fully stocked with whatever you might need. Each of the bedrooms has a Queen-sized bed. We chose the room in the back of the house which was super comfortable. The height of this four poster bed is tall, but there is a matching double step provided as shown in the photos, so not a problem. The area is so quiet and peaceful at night, we both slept great!
My husband and I started each day with a morning walk. We drove less than 4 miles south on Sly Park Road to Cedar Park Trail. Here, there are several asphalt paved trails winding throughout the forest. We would do a couple of figure-8 loops which is probably about a 2 mile walk... just enough to get in some morning exercise and start our day off before heading back to the cabin for breakfast, and out for wine tasting. For those who would like to spend more time out of doors for more vigorous exercise, nearby Jenkinson Lake and surrounding area offers several trails and nature hiking. I believe the loop around the lake is about 9 miles.
Now after given feedback about the house and surrounding area, I would also like to say how wonderful Catherine, the owner, is. She was very responsive to my reservation request and called me right away. We spoke and emailed on several occasions between the time I made the reservation and our actual stay. She is super friendly and a lot of fun to talk with. She obviously knows a lot about the area and can give suggestions on things to do while visiting. She also checked in with us after we arrived to make sure that everything was as expected. It was that and more! I can’t say enough about the wonderful time we had at A Mountain Rose and getting to know Catherine. We would definitely love to come back!
We loved staying at this home. The owner has thought of every detail to make this home comfortable and attractive. The kitchen is very well stocked. And the home is spotless.
There is so much to do in the area. The lake is really nice and has some great little hiking trails.
We can't wait to return!
Great location, very close to MANY wineries. :) Super clean and cozy. Loved watching a roaring fire while sipping wine on a plush couch. Will stay there again.
We spent a week at "A Mountain Rose." It is a clean, well furnished home, that met all our needs. Two comfortable beds, in a quiet, nice area of Pollock Pines. We brought our two dog babies, and the back yard worked really well. Kerosene heater, did a good job of keeping the house warm. Nice kitchen, had most everything you would need. We'd rent again!!
We had a great time at the Mountain Rose! It felt just like home..very clean, cozy, and warm. Plenty for the family and kids to do. Conveniently located to store, freeway, lake and park! It's a beautiful area. Catherine is a great host, very informative and helpful. We had a blast! We will definitely be back for more fun and great memories at the Mountain Rose! Thank you again!
