BEACHES: Maui has so much to offer and of course it's beaches are some of the best! Great beaches near our property are Napili and D.T. Fleming for soaking in the sun and playing in the waves.
SNORKELING: Kapalua Bay is a great beach for the beginning snorkeler, protected, calm water with nice coral formations & fish. Some of the Best snorkeling in Maui can be found at Honolua Bay a bit further north. Huge coral formations, fish, eels, turtles and more; but, it is not as protected.
TURTLES: If you want to swim with Turtles, try the waters right out in front of Mahina Surf, they are plentiful. There is a very secluded, very small sandy beach about 30 yards south of the property that gives easy entry into the water. (you do have to scramble over a short stretch of lava rock to get there.) If scrambling over lava, is not your idea of fun, there is an even easier entry into the water at Mahinahina Beach (also know as S-Turns Beach) about 2 blocks north of the property. Sandy beach with easy entry into the water. Jump in and swim to the left for turtles galore!
SHOPPING: Lahaina town is one of our favorites, it's an eclectic little town with great restaurants, historical sites and is a perfect place to look for a souvenir. Some of our favorite restaurants are Aloha Mixed Plate, Kimos, and Lahaina Pizza Co. For a really nice dinner, you can't beat the Lahaina Grill. We had one of our best meals ever there, and I'm not talking just on Maui, I'm talking anywhere!
Another terrific area for shopping and restaurants is Whalers Village at Kaanapali Beach. (About 5 minutes south) We enjoy grabbing 'Pu Pus' at the Hula Grill; the tables actually sit in the sand with great views of the ocean. It is an excellent place for people watching and a great place to take in the sunset.
GOLF: We are only a few minutes away from the famed Kapalua Golf Course home of the Hyundai PGA Tournament of Champions. Even if you don't golf, it's worth a trip to see the course and the surrounding area. The Plantation House Restaurant, in the club house at the Plantation Course is a great place to grab a delicious breakfast.
SIGHTS: For those wanting to tour the island, the Road to Hana is a trip that you must do at least once. The Windward side of the island is lush and green, beautiful jungle-like terrain with waterfalls around every turn. Black Sand & Red Sand Beaches and, of course, the Seven Sacred Pools.
Another popular attraction is the Haleakala Crater. A trip up to the crater to take in sunrise is definitely worthwhile. On the way back down from the crater, take a side trip and visit the Tedeschi Winery for a sampling of their Pineapple Wine or Champagne.
