This is a great family condo located near everything in Mammoth! Whether skiing, snowboarding or sledding in the winter, or golfing, hiking, biking or fishing in the summer, it is all close. The condo is on the shuttle route located within approximately 1 mile of The Village, Canyon Lodge or Eagle Lodge. It is close to all that Mammoth has to offer.
Enjoy the view of the Sherwin Mountains from this one bedroom, loft plus 2 bathroom unit in Discovery 4. The upstairs loft has one queen and one twin bed, 2 dressers and a TV for video game use only (no cable). Playstation 2 and Gamecube game systems are available for guest use with various games. The upstairs bathroom has a toilet, vanity and shower stall with lots of room to hang wet clothing or towels.
The living room and dining area look out over Lake Mary Road with beautiful views of the Sherwins. There is a 37' flat screen TV with DVD and VCR players, as well as stereo system with Bose speakers. The queen sleeper sofa can accommodate an additional 2 people. There is a wood burning fireplace, with firewood stacked on the deck. Take in the mountain views while cozying up to the fire! The kitchen is fully stocked, and includes a crock pot – great for home cooked meals after a day spent outdoors.
The downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, 32” flat screen TV, dresser and closet, with ample extra blankets and pillows. There is a vanity sink and mirror outside the bedroom, and off of that a separate room with toilet and shower/tub combo. Extra games and blankets are provided in the linen closet.
Our unit has wi-fi access included, and is password protected.
The Discovery 4 recreation center has been newly renovated, with a coin operated pool table, a ping pong table, foosball table, game cupboard, a business center with printer and free wireless internet. Outside the recreation center is a patio with a huge hot tub, a dry sauna and beautiful swimming pool (pool heated from Memorial Day to Labor Day). Stainless Steel barbeque grills are available for guest use as well. This is a great place to hang out after adventures outdoors. Coin operated washers and dryers are also located in the rec center.
The condo is less than a 5 minute drive to Canyon Lodge, which to us is the best spot on the mountain for families, with lots of beginner and intermediate runs at the lodge. Canyon Lodge offers all levels of ski instruction and tends to be better in windy weather as well. For sledding, we like to drive on Mammoth Loop Road and find a good spot to park with a hill. Bring your own sled and you can stay for hours!
In the Summer, hop on your bike and get on the newly finished Mammoth Bike Path right across the street. You can ride it down the hill into town, or for those looking for a more strenuous ride, take the path all the way to the top of Lake Mary Road at Horseshoe Lake. Or if you’d rather, catch the free Mammoth bike trolley on the corner, put your bike on the trailer, ride up to Horseshoe Lake and take the bike path all the way back down to the condo. For serious mountain bikers, Mammoth Mountain Bike Park is the best. You can ride your bike from the condo down to The Village and catch the Bike Park shuttle (fee required), which will carry you and your bike to the Park. Then ride the Park, and you can ride trails all the way back to the condo. It couldn't be easier!
For those who like to fish, there are numerous lakes to choose from, 5 of which are within 2 miles of the condo. Rick’s Sports Center in town is the best spot for fishing information during the season, with all the reports for the different lakes. Boat rentals at Convict Lake are reasonable and provide for a great day of fishing. My boys love to hike to Heart Lake or Rock Creek for their favorite fishing.

We live in Simi Valley, CA, and purchased this condo in 2004 and extensively remodeled the entire unit, including flooring, tile, appliances, paint and furniture. We bought our unit because we love to spend time in Mammoth with our three boys, enjoying the great outdoors. We spend time here skiing and sledding in the Winter, and hiking, biking and fishing in the Summer. The kids are so tired at the end of the day from all of their activities outside, that they eat dinner, watch a movie or go to the hot tub, and fall in bed!
We love the outdoors and want to share that passion with our children. Mammoth has so much to offer year round for us to enjoy. My husband's family had a condo in Mammoth while he was growing up and wanted to give our children the same great experiences.
We chose Discovery 4 for the location and views. We are close to everything when here, and when back in the condo can enjoy the mountain views. We like to sit on the deck and drink coffee in the morning, watching the sun come up.
The Discovery 4 recreation room provides additional amenities that keep the family entertained. The hot tub and pool table are family favorites.
There is so much to do in Mammoth, that our kids never want to return home! We will include some of the best attractions we like to share.
There are many great restaurants to choose from in town. Our family favorites are Burgers (across from The Village) for their large portions and great old-fashioned milkshakes, and Perry’s Italian Restaurant (in the Mammoth Outlet Mall on Lake Mary Road) for their pizza and great Italian dishes.
Other sites to see while staying in Mammoth include Yosemite (approximately 1 and half hour to the valley floor), Bodie ghost town (approximately 1 and half hour north off of Hwy 395), Inyo Craters and the Earthquake Fault (in Mammoth), Devil’s Postpile and Rainbow Falls (shuttle from Main Lodge), and Obsidian Dome (about 40 minutes north). The Mammoth Visitor Center has all the information one needs for exploring.
Other recreation spots in town great for kids include Mammoth Creek Park and Shady Rest Park. Mammoth Creek runs next to Mammoth Creek Park, with a biking and walking path and picnic tables. Bring your fishing poles and fish in the creek, maybe even catch a crawdad. There is brand new playground equipment at Mammoth Creek Park suitable for all ages. Shady Rest Park has playground equipment, basketball courts, picnic tables, a large grass field and a mini skate park (for bikes or skateboards). For the serious skateboarders, Volcom Park is the place to go. Volcom has a large cement park with bowls and lots of features to hone skills.
Golfing choices can be found in the Mammoth Lakes visitor's guide.
Outdoor skateboarding at Volcom Park in town. Outdoor ice rink in winter by public library.
