We had reservations at this house from Thursday, 5/2 thru Sunday, 5/5. We arrived at 5:30 PM on Thursday to find the front door open, two cars in the yard and a dog inside. We figured the previous occupant had hung around a little past check out time so we knocked on the door and called out but nobody responded. We then called the owner to find out what to do and the call went to voicemail. We left and went back to the house a couple of times but still nobody was home. We finally decided we had to find a place to stay so we went to a local hotel for the night.

A couple of hours later the owner called us back and said she was occupying the house herself and was planning to leave Friday as she thought we were Friday through Monday. She said she couldn't possibly clean the house and be out of it until late Friday afternoon. We reminded her that we had to check out of the hotel by 11:00 and needed the house at that time. She finally said she would try to be done by then. She also said she would reimburse us for the night at the hotel.

The next day we went to the house at 11:30 and she was still there but she said she was almost finished cleaning. She acknowledged that the reservation mix-up was her error and that she would refund us the one night's rent. We informed her that the hotel cost over $30.00 more than that but she would only give us the rent money.

Just before she left she gave us a tour and told us the dishwasher doesn't work and the only shower was in the upstairs bathroom. We asked her what arrangements she had for trash disposal. She said she had just finished renting the house for three months to a long-term tenant and had told him to just pile his trash up in the garage so we could add ours to it. She did say the smell didn't reach up into the house so it should be OK. We later looked in two of the outbuildings on the property and found they were also piled high with trash.

We found out that the only A/C in the house was a small window unit in the kitchen and it also was broken. The double bed upstairs was collapsing at the head and I had to prop it up with bricks. I don't think a broom or vacuum has touched the floors in a long time and the refrigerator was filthy and its shelves were broken. The microwave also didn't work.

We have stayed in many Home Away and other home rental agencies' properties and have never had an experience this bad. STAY AWAY!
