Harrisonburg Chalet Rental Photos and Description

3 BR, 2 1/2 bath Sleeps 6. Animals accepted, 1800 sq. ft. of peace and quiet.

Spectacular rustic setting.Give your dog a great vacation on 4 private wooded acres! Enjoy wonderful grilling while relaxing after wine tasting jaunts on Afton Mountain(20 min) nearby. This region was recently called 'Napa East' by the prestigious Virginian magazine. Drive into Charlottesville for culture and shopping on the quaint downtown mall(35 min). Explore caves and civil war museums(10 to 40 min). Visit P. Buckley Moss Gallery depicting the old-order Mennonite community nearby(15 min). Antique mall in Verona(10 min) is one of the largest on the east coast. Rockies sells gently used silver at amazing prices(20 min). Staunton(15 min) has wonderfully reviewed restaurants, antique shops, and Shakespeare Theater to write home about. This location has it all except noise, traffic, waiting lines, and trash. I am prejudiced, but I rejuvenate regularly in this most beautiful and peaceful setting. Private. Quiet. Secluded. Wooded. Enjoy the beauty of any season from this comfortable cozy A-Frame nestled all alone in the woods. Plenty to do for all members of the family. Or, just walk in my woods(4 acres and more adjacent) and hear the stillness of nature. Premium TV channels, internet, air hockey table. Something for everyone. Home size best for 2 couples or a family. Water heater is residential. Animals very much welcome at no additional charge. Shopping, laundry, and groceries within 5 miles. Cable. Lexington, Charlottesville, and Harrisonburg are each within 40 minutes. Visit Natural Bridge and shop in the quaint village of Lexington(30 min). Like new washer and dryer. You can pack light. This property has been loved by my family for 21 years. Now, we have decided to share it with you.

SECLUSION: Wonderful privacy. Entirely wooded 4 acres on a hill.

Great privacy for up to 6 guests.: Bring friends. House trained pets welcome.

Retired psychologist/Life coach providing tranquil space for families to home base and explore the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

I much enjoy hosting visitors to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I am the 9th generation in my family to live facing the Massanutten Mountain. I spent my career years in Minnesota. I am so happy to return to my roots.

Phyllis Cave purchased this chalet in 2009

Comfortable-like home. Many updates. New furniture, hardwood floors. 1800 sq. ft. VERY private. Sorry. Air conditioned.

Flexible dates and pricing. Very private. 3 bedrooms for less than a hotel room! Cute. Homey. Close to soooooo many highlights of the Shenandoah Valley, a wonderful vacation destination in any season.

WOULD STAY AGAIN

  • 5 of 5
My husband, dogs and I had a great time! There was plenty of room for the dogs to run around and play in the yard. The deck was really nice. Husband even slept outside one night. Even though we were in the midst of summer , it wasn't buggy which is nice too. The kitchen had plenty of utensils/cookware even though we brought our own. The beds were comfortable and the cabin was not spotless but pretty clean. The bathrooms were plenty clean enough for me, so that was a bonus.

Based on the pictures it definitely seems that the owner has made a few upgrades too.

I definitely appreciated the all in one price too, it was very convenient not having to figure out well how much extra if someone else comes or with the dogs etc.etc.

Bottom Line: The husband and I have stayed in a dozen cabins in the WV, VA area. We have paid a lot more and gotten a lot less then this. If you aren't looking for perfection but are looking to save a bit of money - you won't do better then this cabin - which is why I gave it 5 stars.

TIPS:The upstairs shower has way better water pressure. Upstairs tends to get quite stuffy if it is above 95.0, so keep that in mind if you are coming with a larger party. Downstairs was plenty cool.

WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY TO EXPLORE THE SHENANDOAH

  • 4 of 5
This was a wonderful place for our six member family to stay as we explored the Shenandoah Valley. The simple home has its quirks but is charming and was a great deal. We reasoned, "Why stay at a hotel when we could have a whole house for about the same cost?" The beds were very comfortable.

Owner's Response: hanks so much to my recent visitors for their glowing comments. I am enjoying the place myself this week. I only have a few weeks left to rent this season. I do my best to make my guests feel well cared for. I am semi-retired. This property is my priority. It is serene, peaceful, and safe. I love it here! You will, as well. Phyllis

PERFECT FAMILY GET-AWAY

  • 5 of 5
Never sure what to expect when you rent a home, but this one was everything the owner described. She was very accommodating---made sure we understood how everything worked, even came when I had a problem with the wifi (which worked fine) and brought us an air conditioner for the second floor. It was clean and stocked with enough of everything to comfortable for our family. Nice to be away from people--walked around in the woods--very pretty. If we ever vacation that way again, we would stay there. Thanks Phyllis!

COZY, HOMEY CONVENIENT AND GREAT VALUE ! RECOMMEND

  • 4 of 5
We were supposed to arrive 6/6 but due to circumstances on our end we could not arrive until 7/7 and some of our party couldn't make it. That was our loss. I was a little nervous w/ the mixed reviews. We were pleasantly pleased upon arrival. The owner was very accommodating and helpful.
Why 4 stars? I took 1 star off because it's not perfect, but nobody expected it to be. We could not get the microwave to work, we just didn't have the magic touch but that wasn't a huge deal. Just made heating up left overs a bit bit of a pain. I've had appliances that I could get to work and others couldn't. LOL The basement was humid, a common problem w/ below ground rooms so we just slept in the upstairs rooms. But that didn't stop us from playing ping pong and air hockey! There were no issues w/ the bed being propped up or anything. A new AC unit is upstairs combined w/ the ceiling fan keeps you cool. The water pressure in the shower was sometimes very low. That's pretty much it. Compared to rates in the area, all minor inconveniences.
The decor was comfy and made one feel at home. Phyllis obviously is improving the experience wherever she can. The AC is new, new flat screen TV in the living room which isn't pictured.
The location was wonderful. The layout is open. Spices are available for you. The only thing I didn't find was a large bowl to make salad and a colander for when I had pasta. That doesn't mean it wasn't there. LOL Phyllis answered any questions, addressed any concerns. There was plenty of room and we felt very comfortable for our entire stay. The location is peaceful and serene.
We hit Lurray (though I'd hit that on the way down next time) Monticello, spent ALOT of time in Staunton. We played golf 2x at Gypsy Hill Park - $20 to play and ride, free club rentals. The pool, $3 / person. It was nice to get a dip in. The American Shakespeare Playhouse is a MUST. We took the tour, saw Return to the Forbidden Planet and went back for All's Well that Ends Well. My daughter returned again for Romeo and Juliet. Byer Stree Bistro had wonderful food and service and we ate their multiple times at the recommendation of a waitress in another restaurant in Waynesboro. There is so much to do w/ in 30 minutes of here that we didn't fit it all in ! !
So much to do and a wonderful place to come "home" to at the end of the day made this very enjoyable.
If we ever come back to area we hope this rental is available. Thanks Phyllis !
