Escape to a lovely private Cottage surrounded by nature! Located in the heart of the Willamette Valley's Wine Country Bethell Woods sits amid stands of oak and Fir on a hill overlooking meadows, farmland and forested hills. Relish the comfort and privacy of our spacious Forest Cottage and the magic of sunrises and dappled forest light. Enjoy the walking trails or bring your bike. We are 'Bike Friendly!'
Our grounds feature gardens, waterfall and pond, boulders, chainsaw art, and sunrises and sunsets that will leave you feeling refreshed and reconnected to nature. Our goal is to make your stay carefree and truly enjoyable. Check-in by 3:00 p.m. and stay until noon on your final day.
The Valley features WINE TOURS to 100s of vineyards, there are art galleries, restaurants and special events that occur year-round but especially from Spring to Fall. We are near the Baskett Slough National Wildlife Refuge, Community Theater, Spirit Mountain Casino, two 18-hole golf courses, museums, and the Air and Space Museum and Water Park in McMinnville (20 miles)
In 1955, a young married couple, James and Ruby Bethell, purchased this property, about 200 acres of forested land. Together, they cleared part of the land and then sold all but 20 acres to raise funds to build their home and start the fledgling Bethell Logging Company, which Jim ran from this location for 48 years.
Five generations of Bethells have lived and made memories on our property, including Jim’s parents, his four daughters, eight grandkids and nine great grandkids. Cindy Bethell, Jim and Ruby’s youngest daughter, owns and operates the bed and breakfast along with her husband, Roger Asbahr.

In 2010, my husband Roger and I moved to my family property and began making preparations for a new B&B. I had just left a 15-year career in environmental policy and sustainable development, the first 10 years n Washington, DC where I worked for the Environmental Protection Agency and later served as an environment adviser in the U.S. Senate. We returned to our home State of Oregon in 2005, where I worked for the Portland Development Commission until 2010.
Roger had a psychology practice for 14 years in Corvallis and then ran a computer technology business for 10 years. We were both seeking a more serene life and decided to return to our roots by moving back to a rural country setting.
I am an avid gardener and rock hound, and enjoy reading, writing and cooking. Roger is a professional musician who sings and plays the guitar. He also works in Information Technology for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Together we love to travel, backpack and hike, and enjoy blissful country living with our cats, and Marlow, a Mini Australian Shepherd. We enjoy meeting travelers from around the world and sharing our little piece of paradise with them.
Cindy Bethell purchased this cottage in 2010
Bethell Woods is on my family's property that dates back to 1955. I grew up here and have fond memories of riding horses with my sisters, watching our Dad run his logging business, building tree forts, and playing with our horses, dogs, cats, frogs, salamanders ad bats. In 2010, I had the good fortune to return to the family property after nearly 40 years and create Bethell Woods Bed & Breakfast. It has been a marvelous opportunity and blessing.
We are a great home-base for seeing all that the Willamette Valley offers: riding the Scenic Bike Loop, birding at the top-rated Basket Slough National Wildlife Refuge, attending the Independence Hops Festival or . Its unique benefits include lovely views from our hill, of soulful sunrises and sunsets, Mt. Jefferson, The Three Sisters Mountains, and the coast range mountains. Our property is defined by the old and new forests and various gardens. Our central location is 8 miles from the nearest town and 4.5 miles from the nearest 18-hole golf course; and 15 minutes from the Pentacle, a renown community theater, and from the Spirit Mountain Casino--the most popular tourist attraction in Oregon; 20 minutes from the Evergreen Air & Space Museum with a Water Park and IMAX theater, and 45 minutes from the lovely Pacific Ocean. We are surrounded dozens of lovely vineyards and the the two counties we are near boast over 300 vineyards.
Love this property! Beautiful atmosphere. The Cottage was a perfect getaway for us before school starts again. Completely cozy and comfortable. We will definitely be back! Melody & Colby, Monmouth, OR
Although my wife and I are from the area, we found Bethell Woods to be a welcome respite from valley life. I would highly recommend a trip to the Blue Goat in Amity, a pleasant 15 minute drive through the country from the cottage. The nearby vineyards are a great way to spend a day, as is the Oregon Coast, which is only a 45-minute drive.
Cindy was a wonderful host and her breakfast is amazing. I'm looking forward to returning again in the future.
We had a wonderful stay at Bethel Woods. Cindy was beyond accommodating. We were able to rent the cabin for a month and couldn't have been happier. The cabin is beautiful and cozy and within an hour of the coast and tons of hiking. We would definitely stay again when in the area!
This retreat is an absolute blessing to us. It's our home away from home for a month the last two years. My husband works the Christmas tree harvest locally there and because of this great place we are able to all be together during this time and stay at Bethell Woods. The owners absolutely make this place perfect. The grounds are so well kept, in a convenient location, while nestled just far enough where you feel like you are in a little cabin in the woods. The food was just like I would make it at home and such a treat to have a truly healthy home cooked meal. Our dogs and toddler enjoyed the walks along the trails behind the house where we even saw deer walking on the property. The cabin is the cutest. It has everything you could possibly need for a weekend retreat or even a longer term stay like us. Basic stuff is provided to make coffee, and do some small scale cooking (hot plate and toaster oven) but we managed to have several nice meals. It is clean and new. I would give this place ten stars if I could.
I arrived around 10:30pm--late airplane arrival--Cindy had the door unlocked so I could just come in--roses on the table, walked into a lovely cottage that was so inviting, just perfect. Visiting from Alaska my son building on property near to here. I'm so looking forward to meeting Cindy & Roger tomorrow after reading the comments in the Guest Book. You can just feel the love. Sept. 27: Awoke and rose early and looked out at the beautiful surroundings, had a hot cup of tea--pure bliss. Off to the coast today with son and family. I was so ready to comeback to the Cottage/Home away from home...after being with 10-year old, 7-year old and 4-year old. Grandma is tired. This cottage is just what I needed. Tomorrow another busy day going to the Pumpkin Patch. I sure will be happy to get back to this quiet paradise!! I do love my grandbabies but Grandma gets tired after all the running around. Sunday morning was a beautiful sunrise, sunshine--then off to a full day at Woodburn, kids had great time--great pumpkin farm! So happy to have a visit with Cindy & Roger. Best 3 days in Oregon. Will surely recommend to anyone coming to Oregon. I wish you joy!
We loved the stay. Breakfast was great, the cabin was perfect, and the location was wonderful. Perfect for a couples retreat.
This is my first experience with a B&B and I have to tell you, I will return. I came to visit my sister in need. When I Googled B&B's in Sheridan, this one popped up. I stayed in the cabin retreat and it is just that a retreat. Your own little house with the essentials to "live here." Cindy was always pleasant and breakfasts superb. You have to try them all if you stay for any length of time, like I did. The local wines and jellies are delicious. The cabin in impeccably maintained far better than any Hilton Marriott. In making my reservation, I emailed Cindy and she was very prompt to reply. She takes pride in her place and it shows in the grounds, cleanliness and meals. This gets a 6-Star rating--above the 5. I hate to leave my serene cottage but it will be nice to get back home. Thanks, and should I need to return this is the first place I will look. Rose, Iowa
