|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Our clean and spacious, 1800-square-foot, three bedroom, two-bath home, is located in beautiful and tropical Kona Paradise/Captain Cook on the Big Island of Hawaii, just away from the tourist areas. The master loft is furnished with a queen bed, and en suite bathroom, and has the versatility of being able to be completely screened off with privacy drapes, or leave them open and awaken to the beautiful Pacific ocean through the floor to ceiling windows in the great room below. The other two bedrooms are located on the main floor, and both have queen beds. Feel like you are on top of the world with an amazing 180 degree coastline sunset view. Just a short 2 minute drive down the street is your own private pebble beach which on a busy day you might see a handful of other people. Most days you have the beach to yourself, where you can swim, snorkel, kayak, or scuba dive, or in the winter months, watch the whales.
We met at the ocean almost 40 years ago, and our lifelong dream has been to return again to where it all began. Though this is not the Indian Ocean, one look at our new home was all it took - we were home again! The views are spectacular, and the memories enchanting!
MARC & RHONA purchased this house in 2009
This whole experience was an incredible journey. We saw and did so much we may need a vacation after our vacation. We met some wonderful locals who will always be friends. Can't wait to come back, next time I won't wait so long. Thank you for the use of your home, it is beautiful and very relaxing.
Greetings - by name is Frankie. I was very delighted to have stayed in your home. It is beautiful and inviting. I was quite inspired as well, was able to write a few poems while I was here.
This lovely home beautifully met our needs for our two weeks of visiting with island friends and exploring the outstanding snorkeling opportunities of the Big Island. It's clean, spacious, and well equipped. Our communication with the owners was most friendly and kind.
We swam in the sea almost daily and were thrilled to see eagle rays, green turtles, and a marvelous variety of fish species. About a mile from the house we hiked on part of the King's Highway and were awed by the wonder of this trail built over 150 years ago.
We liked the fact that this home is located some miles from the commercial district. We shopped for fresh fish and groceries at the ChoiceMart in Captain Cook, and the farmers' markets and fruit stands in that area also provided just what we needed. We'd certainly love to return some happy day.
Our family had an incredible time spending our two week Christmas holiday in this lovely home! This house is even better than the pictures! And, the yard is like an edible paradise - we picked a tree ripen papaya, fresh coconuts, citrus, and there were even bananas ripening on the tree!
What we liked most was the feeling of being away from the touristy area, but also close enough to drive there each day, if we wanted to. Plus the Islands best snorkeling is available just up the road (Two Step Beach)! From this location we could drive to Hilo, or go up past the airport to other beaches. The local farmers market was a nice way to pick up hand crafts and delicious treats too.
Speaking of beaches -the house includes beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, bamboo mats, boogie boards, snorkel gear, ice chests and more!
Did you know that in addition to Kona coffee, there is locally grown cocoa? At one coffee place just up the road (green building, near post office at the turn for Two Step) they sell chocolate bars made from the cocoa beans grown on a tree just up the street!
For part of our 2 week visit our grandmother stayed with us. We were concerned about the steps, but they were no problem. Plus we all had enough space so we didn't feel cramped. She had The Best time!!! Making family memories was the best gift we could give each other....
After flying into Kona airport (which is so small and old fashioned looking that even our teen boys started humming the Hawaii 5-0 song!) we stopped at Costco. This was perfect -then when we got to the house we used the gas grill to cook salmon, chicken etc - all while enjoying incredible sunsets and being entertained by the sweet geckos!
The kitchen has everything you might need - we even used the crock pot one day, baked brownies, and put the rice cooker to work. But the best appliances were the washer and dryer! We packed fewer clothes, and could get everything washed before we headed back home.
Marc & Rhona made the whole rental process smooth and easy, plus they returned our full deposit within days - even though we had to ask them to mail our son's laptop charger back to us!!! And we still got our deposit back - in full!
With this house, pack lightly, and plan to have a wonderfully relaxing holiday!
Wish we were going back already!
Aloha & Mahalo
I took my parents and niece to Kona for a vacation and we stayed at this beautiful home. Owners were amazing to deal with and home was relatively easy to find, we arrived after midnight so visibility was a bit of a challenge. I would recommend getting an SUV or jeep as the drive way is real steep and our rental car bottomed out so we had to park at the bottom of the driveway.
Home was clean and had friendly geckos to keep us entertained. There were a couple of unexpected creatures that were easily dealt with but natural to the location.
Homes had lots of exotic fruit trees, up the street to pebble beach and located close to the lush tropical side. Great for a quiet retreat yet close enough to tourist areas by car.
Make sure that you are good to walk up a steep incline drive way and lots of stairs to get to the main entrance as there is not easy access, just lots of steps. Once up in the home the trek is worth it and the views are amazing.
I would recommend brining your own snorkle gear and mask as though there are some available I found that they all leaked or the straps broken.
Overall, I highly recommend this home for anyone to enjoy.
This home did not disappoint. It was well-equipped, clean, and very comfortable. Views from the deck were amazing, as were the sunsets and whale sightings. The location was away from the typical tourist areas, which made it even more special in our book. Pebble Beach is just a mile below the house and Ho'okena Beach is a few miles north and mixes sandy beach, nice surf, and spinner dolphins every day. You can rent a kayak there too. We liked to patronize the local restaurants, shops, coffee plantations, and artisans. A good fruit stand is 2 miles south on the 11 Hwy. Choice Mart in Capn Cook had better food selections and prices than Safeway or Walmart in Kailua-Kona.
This is a very pretty vacation rental with sweeping ocean views. We really enjoyed our stay. It is very well equipped too.
Thank you very much for your hospitality.
We had a great trip - our first to The Big island. The place is very nice and spacious. We had 5 in our group and toured the island to return to a relaxing home made meal. Showers, beds, deck and living room are great. We would stay here again if we can in the future.
