About Virginia (Ginny) Petrie

I currently live and work in Telluride Colorado. I have been in the area for 10 years and actually lived in the cabin for 3 of those years.

Virginia (Ginny) Petrie purchased this cabin in 2001

Why Virginia (Ginny) Petrie chose Ridgway

Its an amazing place and location graced with clean air, peaceful vibes yet close enough to town to get supplies and see the sights.

What makes this cabin unique

The best thing about the cabin is how peaceful and quiet it is. I live in Telluride but it doesn't hold a candle to the peaceful tranquility of our cabin in Ridgway.

wonderful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at this cabin. It worked very well for our family of five, and the location and views are amazing!!

The location is worth the short drive to and from Ouray, which we spent a few days exploring. We also took a day trip to Telluride, and even the little town of Ridgway is worth checking out - our young boys loved the Railroad Museum there.

We hope to return again some day!!

dissapointed

My wife and I were on a month long road trip, hiking and backpacking throughout Colorado. We stayed at the cabin for six days. We spent most of our time in a tent, so our expectations for the cabin were no higher than that of a typical hotel room. The location of the cabin was quite scenic; elk bugled every night, great views of the Sneffels massif. There were several other houses within a stone's throw, so it doesn't really feel secluded. We were disappointed with the condition of the cabin interior and general level of cleanliness:

Dirty washing machine

Dirty kitchen, especially the oven, which smoked heavily when used

Dirty bathroom, just look at the ceiling fan cover

Loose bathroom doorknob

Loose refrigerator handle

Awful pillows

Bunk beds smelled unclean

Tiny microwave on wobbly table

Silverware in plastic boxes stacked on the floor

Grimy hand rails on loft ladder

Dust bunnies everywhere

No instructions on what to do with garbage--accumulated over six days--we ended taking it into town

Perhaps one or two of the above issues might have been acceptable. When considering the amount of money we paid, which also incurred an additional “cleaning fee”, we can’t help but feel dissatisfied. This was our first VRBO experience, and likely our last.

Owner's Response: I am saddened that Gerard & Tawanaka were so disappointed with the cabin.. I spoke with Tawanaka several times before her trip and only wish she had called me when these anomalies occurred for I could easily have sent the cleaning team to remedy her complaints. Also, there are directions on the coffee table in a red binder explaining how to work everything in the cabin: dvr, tv, cable, phones, grill, AND where to put the trash. I guess they missed that. I also send my guests this same information and more in an email before the date of my guest's visit. I personally stayed at the cabin for two weeks just before this couple arrived and I noticed none of the grievances, everything worked and was clean....I never used the exhaust fan so that is a mystery to me. The microwave is small and the cart is from Walmart. Nothing fancy, but it's a little cabin and space is at a premium. The arrangement works fine and is safe. If the cabin was used as a permanent home, I probably would upgrade the kitchen cabinets, but its a get away and I am more interested in the peaceful views and the charm which includes the "offensive" ladder. To me, I love the patina of all those folks who have climbed up to the loft including my grandsons. Vintage wool blankets adorn the bunks ergo the smell. I never noticed. And I don't mind the pillows at all. They are actually new and are better than mine at home. So I guess its all in what you find important for a mountain retreat.

Wonderful cabin

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for several days and it was wonderful. The cabin is clean, well-arranged and very comfortable. The view from the front windows is absolutely awesome. We were truly blessed to have stayed here and hope to return next year. Ginny was very good to work with and her son was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend the cabin. Plus, it is very quiet and a beautiful drive from Ridgway. Thanks.

Exactly as advertised!!!

My Wife and really enjoyed the cabin. We really love the Ridgway and all of Ouray County. The scenery at the cabin is wonderful and so is the drive up to it. The cabin is clean and cozy. During our stay we hiked, traveled the area jeep trails, and not so traveled county roads. We highly recommend the cabin, and for Jeep rental: Switzerland of America in Ouray.

Great cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Ginny's cabin for five days. We were in the area on vacation to run all the off road trails. The Cabin was well equipped and comfortable for the four of us that stayed there. We saw bears on the drive in and out almost every day! We also saw a fox and numerous deer. I highly recommend it! I'll be staying there again.

Owner's Response: Thanks for staying at the cabin. It really is quite nice if you are looking for peace and tranquility albeit on the wild side visa vie the bears, foxes, marmets and other critters including lots of birds. And thanks for reporting on the bear sightings. Now everyone who reads these reports will know first hands that I don't allow pets because of the wild animals. We are sharing this environment with them you know. You were wonderful guests I am told by the lady who cleans the cabin after you leave. Hope to see you real soon.
