Our lake home is what you are looking for. Level, sandy beach on a crystal clear, deep lake. Open, sunny floorplan with large windows overlooking the lake. The kitchen, with custom maple cabinets and stainless steel appliances, encourages family and friend gatherings. Informal dining area offers a versatile space for an intimate dinner or a larger family get together. Watch the lake and wildlife in the comfortable livingroom or on the wrap around deck or in the three season porch. The knotty pine interior conveys a warm, inviting feeling.
There's plenty of sleeping room in this home with 2006 sq ft of living space. There are three bedrooms plus additional space in the three season porch or family room on the lower, walk-out level.
Surrounded by tall red and white pines, maple and oak trees, the natural setting ensures privacy and plenty of wildlife viewing. Sit around a crackling fire on a summer evening and listen to the bull frogs and loons.
The beach and dock are just a short walk down a gentle slope from the cabin. After a swim, paddle or a crusie on the pontoon boat you can relax in the three season porch or on the wrap around deck. The fishing is excellent in this clear lake and the only public boat landing allows only non-motorized boats. Our 18' Northwood Pontoon Boat to fish, to swim off of and to cruise is included in the price.
Leader Lake is a 160-acre lake that has a maximum depth of 56 feet and has a hard sand shoreline. According to the DNR, the primary game fish present include northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, and panfish. Because of the limited public access, fishing pressure from non-residents is light.
LOCAL CALLS, WI-FI, DIRECT TV AND DVR.
The lake home is a 5 miles from Hwy 53. You'll find the basics in nearby Minong or Solon Springs; Superior and Duluth are 45 minutes away. Hayward is 35 miles away. From Minneapolis/St. Paul it's a 2.5 hour drive.

We are retired and are enjoying our many hobbies which include dancing, walking, pickleball, biking, any water sport and all sorts of social events.
Judy McGinnis purchased this house in 1995
We chose Leader Lake because of the pristine lake and the wonderful fishing.
We enjoy our boats: pontoon, canoe and kayak along with swimming, snorkerling and hiking. The family also enjoys water skiing and tubing. We watch the wildlife which includes loons and eagles. We also have turkeys in the area that are fun to see. The views from anywhere on our land or in our house are beautiful.
My children and I vacation at this house whenever possible. It is an inviting, warm house on a beautiful lake. Far enough away to truly relax and be with each other. Close enough to Duluth, Hayward and other areas of interest for fun day trips. The kitchen, living areas and amenities are first rate. It’s called a cabin and is nicer than many residences. This is a place to create many happy memories including climbing trees, bonfires, s’mores for breakfast, swimming in the lake, water fights and water balloon tosses, playing games, tie dying and watching movies all day when it rains.
My children are world travelers and have been places such as Versaille, Berlin, Mexico, London. The memories they talk about whenever we get together? The critter in the canoe, the fireworks over the lake, kayaking around the shore, catching frogs and pushing mom off the pier. Their favorite place to be? Up North at John and Judy’s cabin relaxing, having fun and making new memories!
We have come to this cabin for several years with our kids and grandkids. The cabin is spacious; nestled in the woods; with awesome views of the lake.
The amenities are huge! Everything you would expect at a north woods cabin and more. We enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, or just listening to the call of the loons and watching the eagles.
We have wonderful memories of this cabin. With their grandpa's guidance, our grandsons loved catching "big" fish and were taught to "catch and release" the bass they caught. Also, our grandkids spent many hours reading books, board games, cards, ping pong, and ladder ball (outdoors).
For young and old alike, this cabin is truly a unique place.
The description lived up to its promise and the cottage was all that we were hoping for. We used it for a vacation with our daughter and her family. Plenty of room for everyone, and the placement of the bedrooms and baths on 2 floors provided privacy. Was a bit cool for swimming, but we enjoyed canoeing and lounging near the lake. And my husband caught a nice bass. Evenings brought bonfires and so'mores, ping pong and chicken-foot contests. We'll be back.
We stayed for a week in August and really enjoyed ourselves. There were 8 of us and we had plenty of sleeping room with the four bedrooms. The lake was beautiful and we water-skied, swam, and tubed almost everyday. The sand bottom was a big plus!! The lot is huge and we enjoyed games of ladder golf and croquet and had campfires at night. The Ping pong table was a big hit for the adults and the kids. Judy is very sweet and accessible, she returned our calls and answered questions really quickly. The only issue we had was we all brought our bikes and the long, sandy driveway was difficult to bike on to get to the road. The roads are very hilly and curvy and the younger ones weren't able to bike at all. Overall we loved the place and had a great time!! We will be coming back:)
We did not have a good experience at this cabin. There were two bedrooms in the lower level that were unusable due to the smell of mothballs and mold smell. When we arrived at the cabin, the weeds were knee high causing us to have to weed wack the yard since three of us got woodticks within 1 hour of arriving. We found a pair of underwear on the floor in one room and sand on the stairs going to the lower level (owners said it belonged to her grandson--somehow that made a difference to her, not to us). To their credit, they did drive up when we called them, but did not sweep the floors, weed wack and indicated that the lower level always smells like that and there was nothing wrong with it. There was no internet as advertised resulting in one couple having to leave early since he was planning on working at the cabin a few hours each day. There are two sliding glass doors going on to the deck..One had a note indicating not to use it, the other had a huge 3 inch gap between the door allowing bugs into the cabin. We used a swimming noodle and duck taped it in the space in order to use the door. We asked if we could have a dog and they indicated that we could and then later accused us of having two dogs (which we did not). We had planned a great family vacation with four couples. One couple had to sleep on the couch due to the smell in the basement and one couple was not able to join us since there was not a room for them because we could not use the two bedrooms in the lower level. On the upside, the lake was beautiful and the pontoon was great. We were able to launch our small fishing boat from the property, which we were grateful. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the necessary cooking utensils. The upstairs was comfortable. When we asked the owners to make it right with us financially, we were offered $200 due to not have internet. We did not feel this was adequate since it was not what was advertised and we were not to have all of our guests as planned. We would not recommend this rental to others for the above reasons.
This cabin was just as described and more. The large windows provide a great view of the lake but we really enjoyed sitting out on the deck, a great place to kick back and relax. Several of our meals were cooked on the outdoor grills which are provided. There is plenty of wildlife. Loons, Eagles, Deer - sometimes right by the cabin. Everyone caught fish from sunnies to lunker bass and northerns. During the day the kids were more in the water than out. We also enjoyed canoeing and kayaking out on the lake in the evening to watch the beautiful sunset. After dark we sat around the outdoor fireplace and roasted marsh mellows under the bright stars and moon.
One night we gave the cook a night out and ate at the Chipmunk Restaurant about a mile way. It's a very causal family style place with good food.
We really enjoyed our week and look forward to our next visit.
