We are retired University professionals that were looking for a mountain retreat away from the city. At first sight we fell in love with the cabin and the area. We love the outdoors, privacy and all that it offers, so this place was perfect for us. We can hike, fish, bike, kayak, ski all within a short drive or walk right out our door. We still have so much more to explore in the area and the people here are all so friendly. It is truley Almost Heaven!
Joan Lane purchased this cabin in 2008
My husband was born in WV and we wanted to give back to the Mountain State and have a vacation spot for our family. WV has so much natural beauty and wild life and yet with a short drive you can be in a small town or an upbeat city. The location is awesome!
Our cabin offers the chance for total relaxation, away from cell phones and computers as it is located within the Quiet Zone. But we also offer all the modern facilities that you will need to enjoy your mountain get away.
Finding the cabin was easy and no problem to get to even in a small car. (We visited in May when the snow was gone.) One thing that we really noticed is how quiet it is. That's partly due to the fact that we left the kids with the grandparents :-), but also because the cabin is in a side valley and not near a highway where all the trucks are. All you hear are the birds and the breeze in the treetops. What also sets this cabin apart from other places we've stayed is how new it is and how clean all the surfaces are. Now we hope to come back soon--and this time bring the kids AND the grandparents. There are enough beds and sofa beds to sleep eight. We'd just plan to bring a folding table to add to the one small table in the kitchen area. As far as activities go, of course we hiked up Seneca Rocks, but we also took a day to drive up to Blackwater Falls State Park. There are a lot of short hikes with great overlooks.
Loved every minute of being here. After some tough driving in some bad snow the cabin was a breath of fresh air. Having stayed in the area many times this place beats them all hands down for the price we paid and the location we were in. Cabin has everything you could want to relax and forget about thing's. Cozy living room with a killer Bose sound system, great music selection, the owners have good taste in tunes , satellite t.v. and a wood burning stove that sure helped keep us comfy. Kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and your basic kinda spice stuff. The couch, chair and beds were very comfortable as well. Nice bedroom and loft area. Lots of games, movies and great music to waste away the day's. We like to drive the back roads in the area but due to all the snow we had ,even with a Jeep, we kinda just stayed put and wondered around on foot. The snow did add a different dynamic then we are used too so looking forward to returning later in the year to enjoy the proximity to Spruce Knob and all the back roads the area has to offer. Just wish I had a sled or mountian board with me :) Must hit up the Gateway restaurant also,.food was super yummy..
We loved our stay here. The cabin was very well furnished with everything you could ask for. We enjoyed the sound system a lot. It's very secluded but also easy to find and right at the base of Spruce Knob, very close to Seneca Rocks as well. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and the furniture was all nice and very comfortable. We are already talking about renting it out for another weekend sometime in the future. Highly recommended, especially for a romantic getaway.
It was a great weekend getaway for the two of us. The cabin had everything we needed to cook, grill out, eat in, and relax.
Very close to Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and Seneca Caverns (all very awesome). We had a little car trouble on the way there, and the owners were very helpful with offering assistance. The Wi-fi at the cabin was a life-saver since cell coverage is very limited in that area. It was our first trip without the kids in 13 years, and still having a means of communicating back home was awesome.
This was our first trip to the mountains, and we can't wait to go back. We would definitely stay at this cabin again. Might even bring the kids next time..., Well, or maybe just the two of us again (haha).
We loved this cabin! It was in a secluded area that was extremely peaceful and gave us the vacation we were looking for- to get away from it all! The cabin was very clean and had everything we needed to make our trip perfect. The scenery is amazing and very breathtaking! The owners were terrific to work with and responded very quickly to any questions. We can't wait to plan our next trip!
This is a great and very cozy place; the pictures don't quite do it justice. Remote and secluded, and yet with all amenities one may wish for. Close to Seneca Rocks and almost walkable to Spruce Knob and many hikes. We loved the wood stove and the loft. The interior is very well done, and there's space to hang out outside as well. Owners respond fast.
Seneca Cavrens, Trout fishing nearby lake and river, Fish hatchery, Darkest spot east of the Mississippi River for star gazing and astronomers. This Cabin is also a Motorcyle paradise, endless country roads.
