Cycle rentals are available, they’ll deliver them to the house. Cycle along the Niagara Parkway, a beautiful ride all along the river, a cycle path runs the full length, so its very safe for cyclists. Cycling on side streets in the town is also safe, they’re very quiet, and no one is in a rush here. The horse and buggy rides will pick you up at the house if you like, or you can start your ride outside the Prince of Wales Hotel, which is just a minutes walk from the house. Take time to walk around the town, off the main street, you’ll see beautiful homes, English style gardens and be in awe at the variety of flowers and plants. No matter what time of year its just the prettiest place to visit.
We’re blessed with a ‘micro climate’ in NOTL, where our winters are not as cold and not as long, and our summers are longer than the surrounding area. Our gardens are in flower earlier in the Spring, and we don’t get such an early frost so our gardens are in bloom longer. We have thousands of acres of vineyards where different varieties of grapes are grown, producing world-class wines and a specialty of the area ‘Ice Wine’. This region is also the fruit basket of Ontario growing strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, peaches, apricots, pears, apples, plums and vegetables etc. You can stop at one of the many fruit stands by the side of the road and pick up some wonderful locally grown produce, it tastes sooooo good! Take some ‘home’ and make a strawberry milk shake, or have peach French toast for breakfast, a real treat.
From gourmet food to family friendly we have restaurants to offer the best of the best. Or do you like to cook? We have amazing farmer’s markets offering artisan breads, cakes, etc. and many other items, and boutique food stores that will inspire even the basic of cooks!
I am always surprised by what our guests do in our town that I have never even thought of! Photographers, gardeners, birders , geo-cashers, vintners, cyclers, antiquers and geekers… seems we have something for everyone!
If you visit during January and February you're in for a treat, the Ice Wine Festival is in January, very popular and loads of fun. Also available are Snow Shoe Wine Tours, the shoes are provided and you'll get instructions on how to walk in them (they're easy), you'll have a guided tour through the vineyard with plenty of tastings of the different varieties of wines and when you think you can't possible consume any more, you'll be given a great bowl of delicious soup which can be enjoyed while sitting beside the fire!
