Photos and Description of the Shelburne vacation house rental
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 6

Newly renovated spacious 2 story fisherman's cottage. On the upper floor two bedrooms (one the length of the house , the other smaller), a breakfast nook at the back with fridge and microwave, and a large bathroom with a bath on legs from which one has an angled view of the the water. On the landing at front are table and chairs to relax, and look out to sea. Downstairs is fully open except for one bedroom at the front, which has a bay window looking over Cockawit Bay and its glorious sunsets. The same holds for the living room , which has a propane fireplace (very safe, with lovely flames, should fogs make it chilly), a table by the window, and a large couch to read and snooze and watch the constant change in sky and ocean.(As one delighted guest said, 'It's like a movie.') The living room is open to dining area and kitchen at the back. Issues: the house sits by the road, so there is some traffic and children must be watched: there are houses to each side. No TV or internet yet

Should the Victorian cottage be occupied, we have a second house available in Lower Woods Harbour: a bungalow with three bedrooms, a well-appointed 1930s style interior, a quiet location well away from neighbours and a lovely view of a vast salt-water marsh. Perfect for birders etc.

The house is on the road, on the side opposite the ocean, directly facing west onto Cockawit Bay. When approaching from Barrington, the house is on your right, about six or seven properties past an abandoned yellow three story building (also on your right). On your left at that point is the entrance to the harbour and a fishplant. If your are coming from the Yarmouth side, there's a three story white building on your right (the museum), followed by a Baptist church on your left, and the house is six or seven properties on your left from that. Everyone will know the house renovated by the 'doctor' and will be pleased to direct you. If you have any problems, ask for Cindy Goreham, who looks after the house.

Notes: Two ladies in town will be pleased to bring you their favorite fish and lobster dishes, and one of them will make sure you have all you need, stock the fridge with standard necessities, and clean up after you have gone. If you wish, she can come in and make breakfast for you, but most of our guests to date have preferred to have total privacy and not to be disturbed. Either way, you will enjoy meeting these ladies immensely, and they will tell you what are the best sites about, the easiest way to get to a sand beach, the best place to see birds etc. etc. .

Immaculate Retreat near the Ocean

5 of 5
Submitted: April 17, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
Just spent a relaxing few days in this wonderful immaculately clean house across the road from the ocean. Sitting by the propane fireplace watching the sunset and the lobster fishing boats was heavenly. Both the owner and the local contact were very helpful. I would also recommend The Lobster Shack in nearby Barrington.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: These guests could not have taken greater care of the house nor been kinder to the staff. What a joy for us all to meet such fine people and to hear they found the place as inviting and warm as advertised--and that to the point they've determined to come back later this season. How we'd love to have all our guests of this caliber--and perhaps over time as we develop a loyal clientiele it will be just so. ..
