The Wharf House is situated on a canal waterfront location of the former hystoric shipyard “The Walvis” in the centre of Amsterdam on the trendy and sought after quiet little island Prinseneiland. You will find a description of the location here under.
The exclusive apartment (85 m2 / 852 square feet) has its own private entrance and hallway.
On the ground floor is one quiet bedroom with a king-size double bed (width 1,80 / long 2,20 meter) and a flat screen TV with DVD player.
Next to the bedroom is a bathroom with shower and sink, and a separate toilet.
An iron spiral staircase leads you to the living room on the first floor containing a light living room / business office with a large glass desk and comfortable office chairs.
From here you have a side-view over the canal. Wireless internet connection is available Throughout the apartment.
The office can be used as a living room and comprises a flat screen TV, DVD player, I-pod docking station and a pantry with microwave, refrigerator, two-pits electric cooking plates, coffee-machine, water cooker, toaster. The pantry contains a minibar with free coffee and tea.

The apartment is situated on the Prinseneiland. I will give you some information about our location in relation to the rest of the city.
First of all, our neighborhood is still part of the Centre of Amsterdam. It is a very quiet and safe 'little village' right next to the 'busy' part of the city. There are still a few little shipyards but most of the warehouses are converted into residences.
The city is more or less built in circles around the centre. We are the western part of the centre, nearby Central Station. That is at this moment I think the most popular part.
Next to our apartment lies the famous Jordaan. The Jordaan is a small part of the city, famous for the narrow streets with little shops, cafes and restaurants. We are divided from the Jordaan by a very nice shopping street. In this street there are two normal supermarkets (open 8AM/10PM), bakeries, a butcher and two organic supermarkets. There are all kind of shops, cafés, nice little restaurants everywhere around us.
We think Amsterdam is more a “big village”. That is, the part where you want to be as a visitor. You can walk everything, but certainly on the bike everything is really nearby.
The address is Prinseneiland 10, Amsterdam if you want to look it up on Google Maps. The street view is still from the period we were building, a few years ago. But one of the pictures you can click shows the finished building.
Walking distance to the Central Station 15 minutes (bike 7 minutes), Jordaan 10 minutes (bike 5 minutes), Dam 17 minutes (bike 10 minutes), and Rijks Museum / Van Gogh / Stedelijk Museum (contamporary/modern art) 35 minutes (bike 20 minutes), Anne Frank Museum 10minutes (bike 5 minutes).
If you want to explore more of the city we have bikes for rent and there are trams and buses to all parts of the city at a 4-minute walk. Apart from the general maps that we provide, we also made a map of our neighbourhood. A selection of breakfast-/lunch-places/restaurants/supermarkets is pointed out on this map. We also have “around the corner” a few very nice and good restaurants. We are happy to advise you and/or make reservations for you.
Shipbuilder an Publisher started recently a vacation rental apartment in their beautifull newly build wooden wharf house.
We practiced our professions on this location already for thirty years. The kids moved out to lead their own lives. We rebuild the old buildings with a separate apartment with it own entrance.
You are situated in one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam city centre, called 'the Islands'. It is a quiet little village directly connected to the live and kicking part of town with its shops, cafes, restaurants and cultural activities.
My husband and I spent 9 nights in the spacious Wharf House on Prince Island. The canal view from the second floor living room was beautiful. The wifi was fast and efficient and the light filled second floor made catching up on emails a pleasure. Wouter and Liesbeth provided excellent restaurant suggestions. We enjoyed six of their suggestions and they all seemed popular with locals. The location is terrific. It is a quiet residential neighborhood with easy walking to the Jordaan and buses and trams. The private canal ride was a dream. We traveled through the gorgeous small canals and were dropped off at a great restaurant. We also used the airport transport offered. These extras were terrific. The tiny kitchen served our purposes very nicely for a breakfast and holding our afternoon snacks. For the last five years we have used rentals for our European vacations. This is the best.
We experienced two apartments, first the one for two people then the larger one for four after some relatives joined us. Each was equipped with all the necessary gadgets and some additional thoughtful items which one does not usually find in short term rentals such as umbrella, cellphone, bandaids. And the best part was a bouquet of fresh flowers upon arrival!! The hosts provided plenty of written information and were available if additional questions came up. Public transportation is within a ten minute walk, so are grocery stores and restaurants. One is in the center of Amsterdam, yet the area has the feel of a small village.

My daughter and I stayed at the beautiful Wharf House apartment and I have to say that I will not stay anywhere else when I return to Amsterdam.
The apartment is even nicer than the photos show and was spotlessly clean. The rooms are large and bright and the little kitchen in a cupboard was more than adequate. There is a two burner stove, a microwave, fridge, sink, ample dishes and small conveniences, like salt and pepper and tea and coffee, that make a huge difference when you are travelling.
If you have concerns about not being in the "heart" of Amsterdam, you should ignore them and stay here. The location is perfect. We appreciated coming back here at the end of the day and being far away from the noise and tourists. The canal behind the apartment is very quiet, unlike the canals in the centre of the city. Sitting on the dock with a glass of wine you would think you are miles away from the city but you aren't. We walked to the Jordaan, the Anne Frank House, the Noordermarkt and a number of other sites and restaurants with no problem. The tram and bus stops were only a short walk and took us anywhere we wanted to go. There are excellent restaurants nearby as well.
Wooter and Liesbeth are wonderful hosts with excellent advice on sites and restaurants. They are happy to make reservations for you and provided maps and lots of information on the city. Do take the boat tour with Wooter it is much better than the commercial tours. They have three other properties on the Island and I got a chance to see one of them. It was spectacular and I'm sure the other two are as well.
A beautiful location, an excellent apartment and friendly hosts made for a perfect trip.
The Wharfhouse was the perfect home away from home for our stay in Amsterdam. Wouter and Liesbeth offered us a wealth of support and information including maps, a local phone, restaurant recommendations, and bikes to get around town. Wouter provided transportation to and from the airport for our convenience. Special touches like fresh flowers and champagne made us feel welcomed after our long flight. The unit was spacious and clean, architecturally beautiful, with quality construction and updated fixtures. It was located in the quiet “islands” neighborhood with many shops and restaurants and only a short walk to city center. There were also buses and trams just a few blocks away that we could catch to explore other parts of Amsterdam. Loved the food at Bickers aan de werf! Our stay at the Wharfhouse was a magical seven days, and we look forward to our return. Dankjewel!
The wharfhouse was very welcoming with fresh roses in the bedroom and breakfast snacks and refreshments in the fridge. The location was very peaceful and friendly and easy to walk into the main areas. Wouter was most helpful and collected us from the airport and arranged a very pleasant boat trip as well as arranging a booking at a nice restaurant for us. There were helpful maps and a mobile phone for our use in case of any problems, it was very helpful to use the local knowledge of our host to plan our time in Amsterdam. The wharfhouse was very clean and comfortable. We would definately stay there again.
