Hawaiian Sanctuary is a tropical permaculture farm and eco-rejuvenation center. Nestle in our sanctuary close to town, yet worlds away from life, as you know it! This vacation will deliver community style living (staff, interns, outside community members visiting for classes) with a private retreat experience. Though, due to the large amount of land that we have, you can be as private or social as you'd like.
AMENITIES & ACCESS:
Guests have access to our spa (ozonated hot tub and UV infrared sauna), full fitness gym, shared bathrooms, some onsite classes, yoga studio, indoor & outdoor showers, beautiful orchards, and property. We bring local experts to teach us about returning to the land, growing our food, and re-connecting to each other, the earth, and ourselves. There are both paid and complimentary class options available to our guests. Type 'Hawaiian Sanctuary' in a search engine to locate our website, so you can visit our calendar for upcoming events. Additionally, we can meet your health and wellness goals for detox, cleansing, and rejuvenation while you’re with us to transform your overall well-being! Single or multiple sessions are available in massage, colon hydrotherapy, IV therapy and more available for our guests. Please inquire.
Listen to the conch for breakfast and lunch, served Monday through Friday. No on-property food service on the weekends, although our communal kitchen is always available for your use, and less than a mile away is a variety of great restaurants. Our farm-to-table vegetarian meals are prepared from the land by our gourmet chef. Expect dairy free, nutritious tropical smoothies with farm fresh eggs and exotic fruits for breakfast, THEN organic salad greens, savory plates, and creative stews for lunch. We offer many raw food options and are passionate about health, vitality, and returning to the source of our foods. We feel so happy to share this with our guests.
Relax in the evening in our spacious outdoor lounge and try a local medicinal drink such as a turmeric-ginger elixir. Health drinks, handmade bean-to-bar chocolates, and healthy treats are available for purchase at our Elixir Lounge.
We are located on a 44-acre tropical farm sanctuary on ancient Hawaiian lands in the Puna District, one of the last undeveloped magical coastal regions, on the Big Island of Hawaii. The farm is on the windward side, 21 miles Southeast of Hilo - a culturally diverse university town - and less than 1 mile from Pahoa (easy to bike or walk) - a historic town with excellent restaurants, grocery and health food stores, post office, and library. We are mere miles away from an active volcano where you can go on lava hikes to see real flowing lava, depending on how it is flowing at that time. We are a short distance to warm tidal pools, waterfalls, clothing-optional black sand beaches, natural steam vent saunas from the nearby active volcano, surfing, swimming with dolphins, and lots of sweet community events– farmer's markets, ecstatic dances, and culture.
Complimentary Wi-Fi provided in room and in public areas.
After noon and before dusk. CHECK INS AFTER 630PM have a $15 late check-in fee, so please stay in touch with our Manager.

We are a family farm that has developed a center for well being that we refer to as Hawaiian Sanctuary. We acquired this jungle land in 2005 with a vision to restore the soil, grow food, and share with people of like minds for health and living more sustainably.
We are sharing this journey with our guests - these tropical tastes, health upgrades and island style are delicious!
Terra Ann purchased this estate in 2005
Location, location, location. 1/2 mile from town, 20 minutes from airport, 7 minutes to black sands beach and lavaflows...this is paradise!
Infrared Sauna, Hawaiian Cultural Classes like Hula and Planting, Yoga, dances, community lifestyle, and hearing the conch for your chef prepared Healthy Meal!
I love that the location is so close to Pahoa. It makes it easier to flow without a car. And, just a few miles from the beach makes it really convenient too! I thoroughly enjoyed access to the chemical-free Jacuzzi and infrared sauna built in such a beautiful setting and so close to my room without the disturbance of any noise. My room was quiet and serene, yet adjacent to the kitchen and other facilities. The Hawaiian Sanctuary kitchen is my favorite outdoor kitche :). It is clean, beautiful, inviting, and stocked with great appliances. The area was well thought out, including dishwashing for guests and residents outside the common area making it easier to keep the area clean. From my arrival into the aromtherapy-filled room and beautiful tropical flowers to the delicious healthy meals, healing classes, fun and educational events, and entertainment, the Hawaiian Sanctuary is indeed just that...one need not even leave the property :) I felt like a brand new person as I left this gem in the jungle - healed, renewed and revitalized. Thank you HS!
They were super helpful with the process of me staying there. Answered all my inquiries before booking the place. Found the location real quick. Very friendly upon my late night arrival. My place to stay had abundant space, comfy bed and lots of storage for things. I loved the sounds of the rainforest and the perfect temperature for sleeping. The bathroom had plenty of room in addition to their outdoor showers. The architecture is so detailed. They had fresh papayas, bananas, coconuts herbs, spices and veggies from their land to use for the meals during my stay. So delicious and yummy! I really enjoyed eating there. There are also chickens that provide fresh eggs and are a great sight to see. The wildlife there is so thrilling to witness. I enjoyed photographing the red or blue local Hawaiian birds and the colorful green geckos too. During my 2 week stay, there were a variety of classes that I participated in such as yogalates, Qi Gong, Kung Fu, Kundalini dance, Capoeira and Hula class. They also had special guests during the week that had informative workshops such as the Compost Tea class, Keys to longevity, and my favorite the Hawaiian planting class where you get Taro and replant for their next harvest months from now. On the weekends during my time there, I had the pleasure of attending several concerts which included the Blue Star Octave, Youssoupha, and Makaya. For unwinding after a long day, they have a Jacuzzi, sauna and a shower in the spa room as I like to call it which I may have used at least once or twice a day between my island adventures. They also have a suspended bed that lets you feel like you are in a hanging cradle. If you have the additional need to work out, they have a full outdoor gym in the jungle; so awesome! There's a laundry room. Pahoa town is nearby too; walking, and or biking distance. It felt like home staying here :) They also have internet if you feel the need to plug back into the Matrix. Will return again with friends and family in the near future to share my sensational experiences with them. I recommend Waipio valley and black sand beach below. Check out the volcano, green sand beach with sea turtles nearby south point. Akaka and Rainbow falls near Hilo. Warm ponds for sunrises and Kona for sunsets. Capt. Cook monument for snorkeling with dolphins and city of refuge at sunset. Night time diving with manta rays. Visit Mauna Kea at sunrise. Pololu valley lookout past Hawi. Take a Mac nut and Kona coffee tour.
The Hawaiian Sanctuary is a dream. Set in a lush, jungley landscape the environment sets the mood for a relaxing and renewing stay. The accommodations are simple and classy and the staff is unbelievably friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Mindfulness of health, wellness, and the beauty of nature is stuffed lovingly in all the nooks and crannies. Weekly events are not to be missed - including yoga, dance classes, and informative workshops on how to live more sustainably. Also the lovely town of Pahoa is within walking distance. Though you wouldn't know you were near any beings upon entering the Hawaiian Sanctuary - it has a very secluded feel. I stayed here for 2 nights with a friend and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I highly recommend including a stay here as part of your trip to Hawaii.
