We feel grateful to tend the land here, enjoy the waterfalls and share the experience with with others! See above for activities we like to do when we play after farm work.
Kristina Hult purchased this studio in 2005
Our family owns 50 Acres up the Hill & is engaged in diversified organic agriculture. Farm visits and adventures are optional with advance notice.
Our studio is located equidistant from Hilo and Honokaa on the Hamakua coast. This provides a great opportunity to explore this agricultural and historic coast without having to spend all day in your car commuting to destinations (if you are staying Waimea or Hilo way.) This location is ideal for those interested in the unencumbered vacation experience.
We spent one week in this sweet place near Hilo. It is wonderfully decorated and very well-equipped, with a perfect kitchen, bathroom, comfortable bed and nice living-room area (you should bring your own DVDs...). Kristina is very welcoming and will help you out with anything you need. Papa'aloa is also a good base for exploring the island, especially if you prefer the greener (but also more rainy) north coast. We can strongly recommend this place to anyone!
As we drove to Papaaloa a rainbow appeared out of the mist. The rainbow ended just outside the studio, and we thought it was a good sign. We were right! Fresh flowers and a platter of fruit greeted us when we opened the door. It's a bright, open space with modern accommodations in a historical building. The waterfall behind the unit is amazing, and the sound of rushing water lulled us to sleep at night. It's a stones throw from the 50's Dinner and Laupahoehoe Train Museum and about mid-way between Hilo and the Waipio Valley, so it was a good starting point for day trips that didn't require hours in the jeep. Kristina is very friendly/trustworthy and embodies the spirit of aloha. Just one note- this studio is near a lot of working farms, so phones and computers can have patchy service; be patient if you're calling or emailing. Since our idea of a perfect vacation requires very little electronic communication this wasn't a problem.
My husband and I had a lovely stay at the studio. The home is beautiful, immaculate and peaceful. We look forward to coming back again and again. The photo do not allow you to see what a spacious room/facility that it is. Kristina could not have been more gracious and helpful. I have already recommended this property to many friends.
Great place to stay. The studio is more spacious then you could ever capture in a photo. Gentle breezes keep the room at the perfect temperature night and day. We will be staying here many more times to come.
