Overview

Grassy Creek Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Be prepared for a totally UNFORGETTABLE experience!! Set on 40+ acres among the rolling hills of Eastern Ashe County and Southwest Virginia, you will find this wonderfully handcrafted Buckminster Fuller design Geodesic 3/4 Dome. With over 300 square feet of windows, the home itself makes you feel like part of the surroundings. Solid cherry paneling, wormy chestnut cabinets, and wooden floors are just the beginning. An inside stairway leads to an enclosed observatory at the top of the dome; a perfectly romantic spot to view the stars above the canopy of trees. A deck surrounds half of the exterior of the dome and offers a nice sitting area for relaxing. Just out the kitchen door, a stone pathway leads to the patio, where swing, picnic table, and hot tub await!! Be sure to take some time to wander around on the property. Unforgettable is a tree-growing plantation as well as a working Frasier Fir Christmas tree farm and wildlife preserve, so numerous trails meander through the wooded and open areas. From the highest peaks, you might even catch a glimpse of Grandfather Mountain if it's a clear day. If not, the panoramic views are well worth the walk, and you're sure to enjoy just sitting by the scenic pond area with a cup of coffee or a good book. If you wish to venture out, the property is in close proximity to several landmarks in the area. The North Fork of the New River and Gale Winston's famous River Haus Gourmet Restaurant are only a couple of miles away. The confluence of the North and South Forks of the New River is about 6 miles away. Shatley Springs Restaurant is 5.5 miles away, and the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is about 15 miles away via Highway 16N and VA Highway 58. If you're in for a day trip, you'll find directions at the home to Chateau Morrisette (fine dining, deli and winery). It is well worth the 1.5 hour drive north on the Blue Ridge Parkway, at Meadows of Dan, VA where you will also enjoy Mabry Mills. Pick up a Parkway Guide so you don't miss all the hidden treasures along the way! If the man is coming to fish, this is definitely THE PLACE. You are only one mile from Helton Creek Trout Stream, which is visited by fishermen from all over. In addition, this air conditioned home provides a fully equipped kitchen, Satellite TV, VCR, AM/FM Radio with C/D player, Washer/Dryer, and charcoal grill. With 1.5 baths, 1 Queen, 1 Double and 1 Twin Bed, the home will accommodate 5. Towels and Linens are provided; the home is pet friendly.

Great place. Very private.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I planned to book this cabin for our anniversary. It is very private - or at least it would have been if my 15 yr daughter had not seen the photos and asked to come along. Well if you don't want your plans changed don't have children. In the end we were glad we took her. The cabin is older but very clean. The windows make you feel like you a waking up outside. The cabin is well supplied with everything you would need except for sharp knives. Bring some with you. The small pond does have fish. My daughter and I caught quite a few bass (some weighed over 2 lbs). The owner has taken effort to maintain some very nice walking paths - make sure you check them out. One short path leads to an overlook of the tree farm - from here you can get an awesome view of the night sky. There are bench swings, chairs and tables at several locations - wished there was a hammock. Take bug spray but the place was not too buggy. My daughter loved the observation room. The hot tub was nice and clean. The only issue was that the two sleeping areas are only separated by a folding panel and because it is a dome whatever is any sound made in the cabin is heard everywhere - we knew this before my daughter asked to go so we readjusted our plans

Fabulous Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful cabin. My wife and I get away every year for our anniversary, and never have we had a more relaxing time. This is one of the most well-maintained places we have ever stayed. It is obvious that someone cares very much about this place. It is not new, but it is immaculately clean. The dome structure and large windows give it a very light and open feel inside. Open loft bedroom was very comfortable. The grounds are very well maintained. Nice picnic table and chairs just a few steps away on the edge of a Christmas tree farm. Beautiful little pond with a clear walking trail through the woods. One of the most quiet and secluded places we have ever stayed, and the driveway gate provides a great sense of security. Our only regret is that we were not able to stay another day.

Great w/e get-away !!!

  • 5 of 5

We just rolled in from Unforgettable ! And we were not disappointed ! We chose this cabin for it's very unique design, and also for its location. We wanted to have the feeling of seclusion, alone in the woods with just our family, and 2 dogs. And that is what we got !! The dogs loved it and so did we !

We spent yesterday canoeing down the New River, brought a picnic lunch, the day was perfect. Came back, went for a hike, dinner on the BBQ...and then hot tubbing time !!

Just a warning for those of you who expect perfection....it is a rustic setting...an old family cabin...that could use some work. But for us and what we wanted, it was a gem in the rough !!!! Yes...we would go back !!!!

Thank you for sharing your home with us !

Neatest cabin in NC!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here most recently this past October...We have rented this cabin at different times throughout the year for the past 5 years, and no matter the season, we love it! Although you can hear occasional cars passing on the highway, you are totally secluded on the beautiful property. Nothing is better than sitting in the hottub, under the night sky...We prefer to bring our own meals because once we're there, we don't want to leave! The cabin is always clean and comfortable. The little observatory in the top of the cabin may be tough to get to, but worth the experience. This is by far my family's favorite rental cabin and I can't wait to visit again. I recommend everyone to stay here at some point. It's a great place to get away from your normal routine and enjoy nature.
