The 20-acre property boast a mild year round climate, with 80 degrees in the day and temperatures in the mid 60's at night. Come experience a unique Hawaiian country-style vacation; quiet, spectacular sun and moon rises on a working horse training facility with quarter horses, cattle, sheep, curious cats and friendly dogs. Relax on the lanai as you watch the cruise ships go by.
John & Karen FitzGerald have lived in Hawaii since 1969, spending time happily residing on each major Hawaiian Island. John worked in management for the Hawaii Sugar Industry and is the Great-Great Grandson of New England Missionaries who came to Hawaii in 1828. Both John and Karen are knowledgeable about Hawaii history, places to visit on all the Islands, and interesting places to see as well as experience. Karen knows her Hawaiian plants and loves to garden. Both John and Karen train, ride, and drive their quarter horses. They purchased their 20-acre property when they retired in 2004.

The 'Stables at Hakalau' is located on the tropical side of Hawaii Island surrounded by waterfalls, streams, and wild flowers. The property offers a unique opportunity to experience the Hawaii countryside, expansive ocean views and breath taking sunrises in a quite setting. Here is a chance to get involved in the daily activities of a working Hawaiian horse training facility that also raises beef cattle and hair sheep. This farm stay experience offers animals that need attending to on a daily basis and quest to 'The Stables' are welcome to help. The 'Stables at Hakalau' is centrally located in East Hawaii, close to Hilo Town with all it's attractions, the UHH Astronomy Center, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, many historic sugar plantation towns, two wonderful botanical gardens, zip line adventures, great sight seeing & exploring, with beautiful white sand beaches just a short hours drive up the scenic Hamakua Coast & Waimea Paniolo country.

|Notes||The "Stables at Hakalau" is a 20 acre horse training facility. We raise grass fed beef cattle and sheep for market lambs. The drive to the property through lush forest and small farms of 10 to 40 acres is enlightening. Flowers, hearts of palm, coffee, Coco plants, bananas, hot peppers, and cloves are some of the products grown. Goats are raised and milked, with cheese as the final product.|
