Welcome to the 'Stables at Hakalau'. We are located 15 miles North of Hilo on highway 19 along the beautiful Hamakua Coast and in the middle of historic Sugar Cane Plantation country. We provide a unique relaxing Hawaiian country style vacation experience. At 1,000 foot elevation, the unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean are breathtaking and expansive. The sunrises are spectacular. Watch the cruise ships pass by on their way to Hilo Harbor. We have beautiful quarter horses, cattle, and sheep as well as dogs and cats to help complete your experience. Our year round climate is mild with 80 degree days and nights in the 60's.

About John & Karen FitzGerald
John & Karen FitzGerald have lived on all the Hawaiian Islands since1969. John worked in management for the Hawaii Sugar Industry and is the Great Great Grandson of New England Missionaries that came to Hawaii in 1828. They are knowledgeable about Hawaii history, places to visit on all islands, and interesting things to experience. Karen knows her Hawaiian plants and loves to garden. They both train, ride, and drive horses.

We are located on the tropical side of Hawaii Island with it's water falls, streams, and wild flowers. We offer a unique opportunity to experience the Hawaii country side, expansive ocean views, breath taking sunrises, and a quite setting. We offer you an opportunity to be involved in the daily activities of a working Hawaiian horse training facility that also raises beef cattle and sheep. We have horses that need riding, carriages that need driving, and animals that need attending to on a daily basses. We are centrally located in East Hawaii Island close to Hilo Town, Hawaii Volcano's National Park, Many Historic Sugar Plantation Towns, two wonderful botanical gardens, Zip Line adventures, great sight seeing & exploring, plus museums and a Astronomy Center to mention a few.
