Enjoy your stay at Maxfield's, a turn of the century vintage home in Ashland, Oregon. Built in 1903, Maxfield's is a charming Victorian home in Ashland's historic district. Features include fir floors, oriental rugs and period inspired furniture. The name is inspired by the artist Maxfield Parrish. Some of his artwork is fondly displayed here. Located just a few minutes walk from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters and the heart of downtown, you will be close to all of the fine restaurants, bakeries, coffee houses and specialty shops that historic Ashland offers. Don't miss our beautiful Lithia Park! Groceries, wine & beer, and fresh pastries can be found almost next door.
This turn of the century classic features period details throughout. It has two levels and sleeps a maximum of eight. There are 3 queen size beds and 2 twins. The twins can be put together and converted into a king.
The lower level, main floor has about 1200 square feet. and includes a parlor and drawing room, fully equipped kitchen, dining room, master bedroom and bath plus another half bath and laundry off the kitchen. There is a queen sleeper sofa in the cozy drawing room which can be made very private. There are two covered porches, one in front, one in the rear, both with white wicker furniture. Each overlooks a small cottage garden.
A classic entry with wooden stairs and balustrade leads to the upper level which has two bedrooms featuring dormer windows and sloping ceilings. One has a queen bed, the other has a trundle bed (2 twins). Between them is a full bath.
The house features a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ, televisions, DVD, CD stereo, WiFi, video and book libraries, laundry, central air conditioning, steam/jet tub/shower and more.

I love to travel and I enjoy helping others make the most of their travels. Feel free to call me if you have any questions about the house, Ashland or the surrounding area.
Steve Larson purchased this house in 2002
We thought Ashland would be a great place to live and put a great amount of time, thought and expense into making this vintage Victorian a dream home. It was well worth it but now it is just me so I decided to make it available to visitors. I think you will have everything you need to enjoy your visit to Ashland. Hopefully you'll feel right at home. If you like to walk you won't ever have to move your car to explore all that Ashland has to offer.
The Oregon Shakespeare Festival is our main attraction. It brings visitors from around the world eight months out of the year. It is also a very pretty town, nestled up against the foothills of the Siskiyou range. Because of our tourist population there are more theaters, 'off Bardway', and lots of good restaurants and great live music. Right in the heart of town we have a beautiful park that stretches along a stream. There are lots of other city recreation such as basketball and tennis courts, a golf course, city owned ski mountain, a park with a large lake for sailing, fishing, speed boating, etc. There is white water rafting and jet boat tours on the Rouge River. We have great wine tasting at a verity of vintners here as well.
My family (six adults, two small kids) spent a long weekend in Ashland, and found Maxfield's almost perfect for our needs. The location is unbeatable and the house is very pleasant. As noted elsewhere, the trundle beds are a bit of a compromise, but everything else is very comfortable. There's plenty of room for families, the kitchen is large and well stocked, and the laundry facilities were much appreciated.
Our family has been coming to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival for 28 years. We now have grown children and use our Ashland trip as a family reunion, so renting a house is a great solution for us all to be together. This year our party consisted of 6 adults and a young baby. This is the 2nd time we have rented Maxfields, and we are very pleased with the accommodation.
We found the house very clean and well kept up, with charming details. We didn’t actually cook a big meal in the kitchen, but it is large and very well equipped.
The master bath is a later addition to the house, so was perfect for the young couple with the baby (sound proof from the rest of the house.) One of our party did use the fold out couch in the den, and there are very good drapes which make that space into a private bedroom. (That mattress is rather hard, though the owner provides a foam pad. We brought along our own 2nd pad this year, which helped a lot.) We did not use the “trundle” bed in the smaller upstairs bedroom. I think this might be cramped for a couple, though it is fine for one person using the single bed. The queen bed in the upstairs bedroom was perfectly comfortable. With 6 people, the 3rd toilet was a great convenience.
The porches are very pleasant places to sit, and the back porch even has fans. The location is very convenient – super close to the Safeway and easy walk to shops and the theater. The owner lives downstairs and came by a few times to make sure we were doing OK. He is friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this house for larger groups coming to Ashland.
Maxfields is an ideal home away from home. The house itself was all that I had anticipated. Situated ideally on Siskiyou Blvd. two doors down from Safeway Supermarket and 13 to 15 minutes walk to the Ashland Plaza. We put my 75yr. old mum in the back downstairs bedroom bathroom on suite and my husband and I took the upstairs floor. The downstairs bedroom is spacious with a great big comfy bed. The upstairs room (TV included) along with a smaller spare room is serviced by a separate bathroom. My only difficulty was the mattress in the double room. A bit too soft for our liking and maybe a little too much dust under the bed. Downstairs is a kitchen with all the necessary equipment i.e. toaster, coffee filter machine, microwave, oven, etc. There is plenty of crockery, cutlery and kitchen utensils. A comfortable dining room leads off the kitchen as well as a separate restroom which houses a washing machine and dryer. There is smaller lounge which houses the TV and a larger lounge which is great to work in if necessary. There is a front porch directly onto the street which is great to people watch from and a smaller porch at the back for privacy. The heating system in the house is great for cold weather and there was plenty of hot water. Maxfield's is ideally located for you if you do not want to drive anywhere - there are some very good Restaurants, Bars within walking distance as well as the Theaters and Cabaret. In actual fact is was great to be able to walk everywhere after all the great food and wine that is on offer in Ashland. Just behind the house on the back street to the left is a lovely coffee shop that is worth a visit, just further up the road before the fire station on the right is an Italian Restuarant - both well worth a visit! My thanks to Steve for making Maxfields' so welcoming.
Lovely, spacious house. Nice convenient location. Beautiful time of year to visit. Will stay here in 2014.
There were 5 of us. One couple and three others. We each had a room to ourselves. The house reminded me of someplace out of the early 1900's. It was homey and pleasant. Steve Larsen couldn't have been more accommodating. It is easy walking distance to town and has a very pleasant porch where we ate breakfast most mornings. The shower in the master bedroom was spectacular. A must see.
But what struck me most was how clean it was! That makes such a difference for me. I will definitely go back!
Six adult family members stayed 3 nights in August 2013. Beautifully restored house, and spotless. The master bedroom in the back on the main floor was fantastic--very quiet, and with a wonderful jetted tub with sauna and rain shower. (Note to shorter persons--you might need a footstool to get in the bed.) We had a few minor complaints--same problem as previous reviewer that there are no small paring knives in the kitchen to cut fruit, etc. Also, the drawing room with the sofabed extended is not as spacious as the other bedrooms, and you can hear footsteps above, but that is to be expected in a house of this vintage. My daughter slept on the trundle bed upstairs said she could hear some kind of mechanical (A/C unit?) noise, but not a big deal. The back porch was wonderful for quiet reading time and having tea, and was spacious enough to have dinner with other relatives who were staying in a house nearby. We would definitely rent this house next time we visit Ashland. It was nice to be able to walk to the theatres and shops and have space to relax and visit with relatives.
