About Cindy Houck

I am Cindy Houck. I own property in Costa Rica and have family who live in there year round. I'm very familiar with the Manuel Antonio area and have had the privilege of staying in the Private Villas I represent.

Why Cindy Houck chose Manuel Antonio

This villa is located in Tulemar, the only gated and secure, 33 acre jungle resort community in Manuel Antonio with private residences and it's own beach. We have hiking trails through our jungle, food and beverage service at the pool and/or beach and paved roads (which may sound odd, but you will appreciate them!).

What makes this villa unique

We're located right in the heart of Manuel Antonio, within walking distance to many fun restaurants and bars. There are many beautiful beach homes in Manuel Antonio, but a location in Tulemar is where you'll want to be.

At Tulemar, we have an office located inside Tulemar, so we can assist throughout your entire trip, from lodgings and transportation to tours, restaurants, activities and special services. Whatever your Costa Rica vacation needs, we can make it happen!

Guestbook comments from the manager

We just came back from ten days in Manuel Antonio. Our family of four (kids 9 & 11) stayed in Tulemar. The large, private property was amazingly beautiful. It was lush and picture perfect with plants, flowers, birds, butterflies, monkeys and sloths a common sight. The property had four beautiful pools and a private picturesque beach that was never very crowded. The water was warm and the waves were not very big. We used the free boogie boards and kayaks often but brought our own snorkel gear.

The level of customer service was unparalleled. Every single staff member from our maid, bartenders (Daniela and Arlen were awesome!) to wait staff and concierge were there to please. Rarely have I experienced such a genuine eagerness to please in any of my travels all over the world. Our concierge Chris was very attentive. He made arrangements for drivers, dinners, tours and everything else we needed all with a smile and happy heart. I really didn't think we would need a concierge for I am capable of planning on my own but I have to admit that it was nice to have someone there as our "go to" for anything.

Onto the units. Wow. The view was amazing from every window. It was like sleeping in a tree top in the jungle. The bungalows have plenty of space for our family to spread out and the kitchen was great for quick meals.

All totaled Tulemar was perfect. We saw more wildlife every day at the property than we saw in the M.A. state park! We will come back again and stay at Tulemar! The restaurants within walking distance were great. We ate local and drank the tap water everywhere..... I don't even drink my tap water here in Northern California so that is saying something. Tulemar is perfect for couples, families, or anyone else who wants a worry free vacation in paradise!

“Stunning with a great location”

  • 5 of 5

We just left this beautiful resort 8 days ago after a five night stay in a Buena Vista One Bedroom Select. Tulemar is incredible. The beach, the pools, walking trails and lots of animals. It is first class! We can't stop bragging about the staff, our view, beautiful room and resort. The staff gets a 10+ And we already miss Daniella, Michael and the too adorable Charlie and your food and beverage director. We ate most of our meals on the beach or at the main Tulemar restaurant. They were both wonderful. We hope to visit again.

Thanks, Cindy, for suggesting this property

Perfect Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in July for our honeymoon and were totally blown away. The Buena Vista Select was perfect for us. We really enjoyed watching the many visits of the animals on our deck. Our concierge Chris was only too happy to help, whatever our requests were. Manuel Antonio is lovely and we feel privileged to have stayed somewhere so magical. We loved that you are IN nature and the wildlife surrounds you. It is just incredible. We can't wait to return once we've saved (the flights from England are more than a little expensive!) - The Tulemar experience is worth every single penny!

We will definitely be back!

Fantastic Bungalow!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I rented a BV One Bedroom Select for one week during the summer of 2014, August 1-August 8.

The bungalow was exactly as described-1 bedroom with a king size bed + bathroom, a separate living room/dining room, refrigerator and hot plate (sufficient for us as we did little or no cooking of our own, except for on the coffee machine provided). The bungalow as exceptionally clean and the daily housekeeping service excellent.

Our concierge at Tulemar for the entire trip was Chris Madrigal. Chris was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable with everything we needed during our stay. Chris's upbeat, friendly personality made sure that we were completely satisfied with our initial planning, including planning and reserving our day excursions prior to arrival, private transportation from and to the airport in San Jose, suggestions for restaurants in Manuel and Antonio and even bringing an umbrella to us during a thunderstorm. Our bungalow faced the beach and was in the rain forest where Tulemar is located.

We note that the rest of the entire staff was as exception and helpful to us when Chris had a day off or was otherwise not available. It was exceptionally useful that the staff provided transportation around the Tulemar property, especially from their on-site private beach to our bungalow which was uphill all the way.

Restaurants along the Maneul Antonio-to Quepo were reasonably priced and many were in walking distance from the resort site. The bus was inexpensive and when not available taxis also were reasonably priced.

Linda and I took the short version of the private guided tour of the Manuel Antonio Reserve (more expansive tours are available), the boat tour of the Mangrove where we were face-to-face with Capuchin monkeys (great photos can be taken) and the river rafting escapade on the Savage River (low difficulty of about 3+). The guides were very helpful to all the people in the rafts. As so-so swimmer, Linda and I felt safe once we got over the first rapid because of the help of the rafting crews.

Our return flight to Los Angeles was very early on August 9 so we spent one night at the Mariott hotel in San Jose which is closer to the airport.

All-in-all a wonderful trip that we would take again.

Bon voyage and enjoy your trip (s) to Costa Rica whenever that may be. Thank you Cindy (Tulemar Vacations) for suggesting this wonderful property to us.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. We are so glad that you stayed with us and enjoyed Tulemar. The Buena Vista One Bedroom Select is a favorite with our guests. It offers amazing jungle and ocean views. Thank you for the complement on Chris. He gives 110% and loves what he does. I see you took advantage of some great excursions. The Mangrove tour is one of my favorites. Monkeys galore! If you had decided not to leave Tulemar, we have the beach, bar and grill, walking trails, four swimming pools and a restaurant. I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to Tulemar. Tulemar is truly paradise! Please come back and visit again. We would love to have you. Pura Vida, Cindy

Unbelievable Views and Phenomenal Service!

  • 5 of 5

I decided to take my girlfriend away for her birthday based upon TripAdvisor reviews. We stayed in a Buena Vista One Bedroom Select and to be quite honest the photos do not do it justice in the slightest. Upon entering our accommodation both I and my girlfriend were left speechless by the views and the accommodation in general, it was clean and had more room then we expected. There was fresh fruit laid out as soon as we arrived which was the icing on the cake. The staff from start to finish were amazing. Cindy made the booking process unbelievably easy. We would both highly recommend a massage from Vanessa. It was outstanding. Our concierge Ashley was wonderful. She handled our reservations for dinner, our excursions and anything else we wanted. Tulemar has the best service and professional people that I have ever experienced before. Once we settled in we went to the beach. What a wonderful beach it is. You do not have to bring anything with you. They have everything there.

David who works at the beach must have one of the best jobs in world. Every time we went down the beach he greeted us with a smile and was more then helpful especially with our first time sea kayaking.

I would and will recommend Tulemar Bungalows to anyone I meet and as and when we return to Costa Rica we will most definitely be staying here again!

Fabulous views and top notch service

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a 7 night stay at Tulemar. We stayed in a Buena Vista One Bedroom Select with a deck. We cannot say enough about our fabulous stay here. The bungalow is great for two or four people. It has a large balcony with an ocean view. Every morning we would get up early and go out on our balcony with our coffee and watch the wildlife. The monkeys would almost always come through every morning and afternoon. We felt as if we were living in an animal park for a week. It was absolutely fantastic! We saw several sloths throughout the property, one with her baby attached! We saw lizards, Mot Mot birds, Toucans, as well as a lot of other species of birds. It is a hike down to the beach but the South trail down to it is beautiful and has a small waterfall along its path. They offer a shuttle if you do not want to walk, which we also utilized a couple of times. The beach is private and beautiful and there is a beach bar with great food and drinks. The restaurant on the property is top notch with a beautiful view. We went on a fishing excursion on Thanksgiving Day and brought back Mahi Mahi that we had caught to the restaurant and they prepared it for us that night for our dinner. All of the staff at Tulemar is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. We had Chris as our concierge and I can't say enough good about him! He was at our beck and call and very helpful with suggestions on activities and restaurants. The whole staff in Tulemar is amazing. They provide top notch service from the time of booking to the end of your stay. We will definitely be back and will recommend to anyone we know looking for a great vacation! Thank you Cindy for suggesting this wonderful property.

Stunning Property and Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I stayed 3 nights in a BV One Bedroom bungalow here. It was amazing! We drove from Arenal, where we stayed downtown and this was just a totally different experience. The bungalows are all nestled into the rain forest landscape, with a perfect view of the ocean and wildlife. Most days we spent a few hours down on their beautiful beach where we could get wine, rest and relax. There were only a few other families on the beach so it was peaceful and felt very private. We took the hiking trails down to the beach two days and saw monkeys and lizards and all kinds of wildlife in the jungle right on the hotel's property. The hotel staff would then shuttle you back up to your bungalow in a van if you wanted. The food at the hotel restaurant was quite good, but you're in walking distance to plenty of other places. We took advantage of the hotel's happy hour half-off-cocktails-special every night. Lastly, the staff here is amazing. The concierge will book excursions and spa activities for you. We went canyoning one morning - they picked us up at the hotel - and had massages one afternoon next to one of the pools (there are many many pools on the property). Since we were traveling in low-season we often sat at the bar and chatted with the restaurant staff, who were all lovely. The whole place felt very luxurious and it's beautifully maintained. We would definitely come back. Thank you Cindy for suggesting this wonderful property.
