Overview

Cedar Grove House Rental Photos and Description

5 large bedrooms, 4 full bathrooms, sleeps 10-12

This architect designed 'green' home is on 41/2 acres with 150 feet on Lake Michigan. The house is on a private drive at lake level on a beautiful sandy beach with a shallow sandy entry. You can walk for miles on the beach in either direction. The lake views to the east are equaled by the private western views over a native prairie and wooded bluff. The house has beautiful perennial gardens and a swing set play area for children.

This three story shingle-style 3500 square foot home has huge banks of windows, private porches on every level, a screen porch and patio on the west and deck on the east. There is a gourmet kitchen and open plan dining and cathedral ceiling sun room, as well as a sunken living room with a natural fireplace. There are five large bedrooms as well as a large third floor room with a ping pong table.

A lovely and unique home

  • 5 of 5

We rented this home for a women's wellness and yoga retreat. Everyone loved it. The house is creatively designed to incorporate the beauty of the natural surroundings. The furnishings were tasteful and comfortable. The layout feels very spacious yet warm. Beautiful beach, great firepit area, quiet and peaceful. Overall the place has a great atmosphere! It was hard to leave! The owners were very helpful and accommodating as well.

A piece of beach front heaven...

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a wonderful time staying in this beautiful home. The layout is open and roomy while still feeling cozy and intimate. The house has tons of windows, sky lights, porches and places for large groups to gather. It was wonderful to be able to walk out the back door and be on the beach (which is where we spent most of our time). I absolutely loved the rustic landscape and the privacy it provided. The location was perfect for us since we have friends and family in Milwaukee and Chicago and it was not a hassle for them to come visit for the day.

I highly recommend this place for anyone who has a large family and wants to get out of the city (but not too far out).

We will definitely be back!

Beautiful location, something for everyone

  • 5 of 5

This place was gorgeous! Large rooms wrapped in windows, I felt like I was outside the entire time. It was clean and spacious. The kitchen was a joy to cook in and had everything I needed. I found the owners were helpful in offering the best times to kayak and some good advice about Lake Michigan currents! The many nooks and crannies and multiple private porches off the rooms allowed for personal time away from the group. Perhaps the best part was going to sleep under the stars peeking through the skylights and waking up to the sound of waves. I appreciated the sustainability in the design and landscaping (geothermal heating, native prairie, slow growing grass in front yard - the owner, will be happy to give you the low-down). You get a completely different feeling sitting in the front yard overlooking the prairie and in back, in the woods overlooking the beach. There's really something for everyone here!

Fabulous Getaway; Spectacular Beach

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful stay--beautiful house meeting all expectations. The house has an open design with a spacious, clean kitchen/dining/sitting area. Our bedroom was comfortable with open access to the garden, forest and lake. The east deck has a great view of the waterfront and the west patio overlooks a beautiful prairie. The expansive beach is fine sand making walks pleasurable and the low sand dunes with their natural vegetation set the ambiance. Highly recommended!

Lovely Setting but a little tired

  • 2 of 5

The setting and layout of the home was nice. However, it appears that there has been some inattention to areas that need attention. The lawn was not mowed, there was dog waste in the yard. The decks were moldy and needed power-washed. The interior had some issues of broken tiles, plugged up drain in master (which we cleaned out), etc. The cleaning people did not do the job they needed to do and the landlord kindly did not charge us for that. The location was lovely but the property is in need of some tune-ups to make it really worth the price that is being charged.

Family vacation you don't want to miss.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 12 enjoyed a week at this lake house. We appreciated the direct access to the beautiful private sandy beach. While the lake water was cold the children loved playing in the waves and some of the adults tried out the 3 kayaks, and many sand castles were built. The house had wonderful space that afforded plenty of room to eat together as a family, room for the children to play while adults to visited in another area. The owners were easy to contact and helpful while we made plans. A nice grocery store "Piggly Wiggly" was only about 5 miles away, gas about 2 miles away, and in the little town of Cedar Grove we found a wonderful pizza place. Mostly we enjoyed our family meals in the large kitchen in the home. The only thing missing was a microwave. The listing was exactly as described by the owners and the photos are accurate. Thanks Norm and Juliana for a relaxing and fun family vacation where many memories were made.
