Photos and Description of the Historic Center vacation house rental
1 Studio 1 bathroom, sleeps a maximum of 3

Originally an artist's studio situated in the grounds of a privately owned family Villa in an inner city conservation area with a beautiful garden of two acres with cypresses and olives and a good sized swimming pool. There are shops and restaurants within walking distance and a bus stop 2 minutes from the gates. The Studio has a large lounge and dining area. There is a double/twin bed which is screened off from the rest of the room, and also a sofa-bed and a cot for a baby. The kitchen and bathroom are separate rooms. The Studio which is quite apart from the Villa has a little outside terrace for dining and a barbecue is available. You have full use of the garden. Private parking is on the property. The secluded swimming pool (not used by the Villa), with poolside loungers and a shady arbour with table and chairs, is close by. There is a laundry house in the grounds for your use with washing machines and dryer. The property has good lighting at night and high security. Scroll on down

When you arrive: at the estate you come to the main gates. Press the button and they will open automatically. Go up the drive and see the Studio on your left with its invitation to enter and make yourselves at home. Fresh flowers, a bottle of Chianti with a corkscrew and two glasses will be waiting for you for...a good start. You will also find a book giving useful instructions and information on the accommodation, recommending shops, restaurants, and transport. If you need any further help, information or advice please don't hesitate to ask at the Villa where you will be welcomed and where they speak English. They will show you where the separate laundry facilities are with washing machines, drier and clothes lines. On your last morning you can arrange to leave your luggage in the Villa should you wish to spend more time exploring the city or do some last-minute shopping.

Arrival time is after 13:30 p.m. and departure is by 10:30 a.m.

Five minutes walk: away you have all the necessary food shops and one of the best, typical Tuscan restaurants in Florence, 'Ruggero,' which is a well-kept Florentine secret. A 10 walk takes you to the Belvedere Fort and from there to all the best sites, via the Ponte Vecchio. You can also catch a bus from either end of the street and this will take you directly across the city and on to Fiesole, a charming little Roman hill town much favoured by 19th century English tourists. Or take a 6 minute bus trip to 'Bellosguardo' where Elizabeth Barrett Browning had her villa and gaze at the whole of Florence spread out below you. The seaside, with its miles of sandy beaches, is about an hour away, and a day trip is easily possible by train from Florence to Venice or Rome. Be Florentine and buy your train, bus, museum and theatre tickets from travel agencies in the city centre; it saves a lot of time and hassle.

Don't forget that food shops in Italy: open early at 08:00 in the morning and then shut firmly from 13:00 until between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. They close in the evening around 20:00. However, there is a supermarket which is open all day. All shops are closed on Sundays, except for cake and ice-cream shops which are only open in the morning. Restaurants serve lunch from 12:00 mid-day till about 14:00, but not much later (siesta time...), and dinner at night usually between 20:00 and 22:00. Cafes and pizzerias stay open later.

A 20 minute drive from Florence airport and 10 minute taxi ride from the station, the Villa is in a quiet, leafy area of the historic centre of Florence between the Boboli Gardens and the Imperial Palace. It is within 3 minutes walk from the gates of the property to a bus stop, 5 minutes from food shops, and 10 minutes drive from the Firenze Certosa exit on the Autostrada A1.

The property has been in the family of my cousins since the early nineteenth century. The estate is in a conservation area, protected from any further building, and therefore tranquil and secluded without being remote.

You can easily explore Florence with its narrow streets, palaces, museums and churches and its wonderful shops of international fashion designers. Then come home to rest and enjoy the calm of the garden and the pool.

This is a private property; we are not a company or an agency. We have enjoyed having visitors to stay for over 10 years. The guest book has appreciative comments, useful information and advice. Some recent comments: '...your garden Studio in Florence was the most enjoyable place we have rented in Europe and the best equipped...' A.K.K., Moss Beach, CA, USA. 'We enjoyed our stay enormously, as usual - it really is the only place to stay in Florence.' S.D.Polstead, Suffolk, UK 'The setting was just out of this world. A real heaven...We were so impressed with the accommodation and location that we are already planning a return visit next year.' S.Stevens, Fife, Scotland. 'It was so peaceful at the villa... a lovely place to stay in after the hectic days in the art galleries.' G.James, Bath UK. See also property 39

The studio is truly a real home from home, it is very spacious, confortable and very well equipped with everything that you could need.

It is within an easy walking distance of the sights of Florence with bus stops close by to make life a little easier. Restaurants and shops are close by.

The owners are very helpful and made us feel very welcome.

All I can say further is that we are already planning a return viist

Cool Oasis in a Hot City

4 of 5
Submitted: July 13, 2012 Stayed: June 2012
The Studio is a well-maintained bed-sit bungalow situated in beautiful and tranquil gardens. It is part of an estate set around the owner's large villa with another small holiday let called 'The Gardener's Cottage'. A clean, turquoise pool is shared between visitors to the Studio and Cottage.

Much thought has gone into furnishing the Studio. All linen is supplied including beach towels and a starter set of toiletries and tea-bags are available. There is even satellite tv which can pick up some BBC services. The large, comfortable bed has an efficient air-conditioning unit set over it which cools the entire bungalow - a blessing when the city temperature is around 33C as it was throughout our stay.

From the Studio it is only a short walk to the major attractions of Florence: 10 mins to the Boboli Gardens and Pitti Palace,15 mins to the Ponte Vecchio and about 25 minutes to the Uffizi. Slightly longer coming back as it is uphill. Alternatively, you can catch one of buses that run frequently from the stop two minutes away that will take you into the city centre in no time. There are decent restaurants a short stroll from the Studio or endless options in Florence centre. The owner of the Studio, Dudi, will show you how to get to the local restaurants and even make bookings for you. She and her staff, especially Armando, could not be more helpful.

We stayed at the Studio for two weeks and a typical day was spent sightseeing in Florence centre until the heat became too much and then retreating to the side of the pool to relax. With birds and butterflies flitting about the gardens, the scent of jasmine and the splash of cool water - it was just idyllic.

Perfection in Florence

5 of 5
Submitted: September 27, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
My wife and I have just had a stunning week in Florence, thoroughly enjoying our stay in this lovely and beautifully appointed studio in the extensive private grounds of the villa. This is a fabulous place for a relaxing holiday in every respect: extremely comfortable, very spacious, clean and unbelievably quiet. It is every bit as good as the photographs show. It is not far from anywhere and we made daily use of the No 11 bus - the stop only is 2-3 mins walk and the service is frequent - to take us to and from the centre of Florence, saving our energy for walking around the fabulous art galleries - the Uffizi in particular - and climbing the 463 steps of Brunelleschi's Dome in the Duomo for unrivalled views across the City - phew!

We were warmly welcomed by the owner and her housekeeper/assistant could not have been more helpful, giving us plenty of advice and being especially kind in taking us in his car to the supermarket before closing. So many nice thoughtful touches - the welcome bottle of Chianti and the English tea were much appreciated, as were the extensive range of books - novels and guide books (nearly all in English thank you). We didn't need to use the Studio's air-conditioning as the weather was perfect - in the high 20s - and the interior was pleasantly cool. Having unlimited use of the 12 metre outdoor swimming pool was the "icing on the cake" after a busy day's sightseeing (I did 40 lengths a day - my wife somewhat less! nothing better than enjoying a glass of wine by the pool at the end of the day). So many positives and no negatives, even the mosquitoes left us alone (something to be aware of in the early evening if outside because of 'green' location). Well worth reading the 4 volumes of guest comments made over the years for advice on where to visit, where to eat, where to get the best ice cream and where to shop generally - really helpful for us as first time visitors to this beautiful city.

Every day of our stay, we said to ourselves how lucky we were to be staying in this fabulous studio rather than in a cramped and noisy city centre apartment. It made our holiday very special indeed and truly memorable. Molte grazie! Ciao!

Great Studio in Lovely Grounds

5 of 5
Submitted: October 16, 2010 Stayed: August 2010
The studio was a brilliant find. It's within easy walking distance of the main attractions in Florence and what a city Florence is - full of character, charm and culture. The owners were on holiday themselves while we were there and left us in the very capable hands of they're employees - fantastic, they even called for a taxi when we couldn't get through on the morning of our wedding in the Palazzo Vecchio - what a wonderful experience, absolutely beautiful. We have visited Florence before, driving in for day trips and catching the train in from Lastra a Signa which is about 20 minutes away but actually staying in Florence was something else! I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays we have ever had (except for the mosquitos of course but you can't avoid them in Florence - what with the river and all that greenery. Just keep doors and windows closed as much as possible (you do have air conditioning) and use a repellant. We ate out and cooked meals at the studio, we found the kitchen to be fine for our needs. Our favourite restaurant was La Giostra, a little pricey but the food was delicious - and after all it was our wedding night. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property in fact we'd love to return there ourselves - happy, happy memories.
