We rented this house for Memorial Day weekend, 2012.
Everything was ready for us when we arrived. Dealing with the property owner by email worked great. He doesn't accept credit cards, which was a slight disadvantage, but all worked out fine.
The pictures of the house, inside and out are perfectly accurate. We had about 7 people and were all very comfortable. Beds were great, bedrooms were great. Plenty of pillows and blankets. Everything clean, clean, clean.
The fireplaces were awesome. Actually had remotes to turn on and off while sitting in bed (hehe).:) The back room and bathroom were really pretty, and modern. Comfortable furniture. Kitchen had everything we needed. Nice appliances, good for any cooking.
Met a nice neighbor who walked his dog every day by our property, and apparently was friends with the property owner. We didn't feel like he was spying on us, just a real nice guy, with an adorable dog.
We were able to bring our dog, and that was a plus.
We had a FABULOUS time at the beach. It is absolutely gorgeous. Clean, beautiful beach.
We had a teensy problem trying to find the beach access, but once we did, that was fine too.
The actual walk to the beach was about 2 blocks, and when you get to the beach, there are about 70 stairs to climb down (and up....arrgh), but we had so much fun, sometimes we did it several times a day. If you can't climb all of those steps, getting to the beach from here might be a problem. We had a wonderful "Sunset Celebration" on the beach on our final night. It was absolutely breathtaking.
If you're looking for a clean, nice, house, with a nice front yard to play in, a great front porch for chatting, and access to Lake Michigan (short walk), you really won't go wrong with this house. We had a wonderful time.
My only negative comments: doesn't accept credit card payments; lots of steps at the beach;
Thank you for a wonderful stay!
We arrived and everything seemed to be in full bloom. Such a charming little cottage, reminded us of Key West. We immediately figured out where the beach access was and dug our toes in the clean white sand!
The house has a fireplace, although we didn't use it, it would be awesome for a fall visit. The kitchen was perfect as we like to prepare our own food most of the time. There was a brand new gas grill that we used too! The deck was fantastic. A little wine, snacks, some friends, and the guitar came out for a great evening. Slept like a log on the spacious bed!
We are thinking of coming back this fall if this cottage is available. I'll bet the colors this fall are pretty vibrant around South Haven area.
We really enjoyed the house and setting. Our dog and 2 kids were safe and palyed their hearts out. Thanks so much for making it available to us!
We just stayed at the house for a week. It was very clean, except for the family room rug, which is filthy. It doesn't look like its ever been cleaned. The deck in the front of the house was great. The house was in a good location and not far from the beach.
We did have a few negative comments too though.
The beach closest to the house is, not joking, about 20 feet by 15 feet. It is so small we couldn't use it the entire week. If there's another family on it, you'll need to go elsewhere. We had to drive about a half mile down the road to Plackard Beach, which is about 10 times the size. We had to pay for parking everyday too. It takes away from the whole reason we paid more money to rent a house near the beach.
Also, the guest 'cottage' in the back is really a tool shed that he put dry wall on the walls to make it into a tiny room. My college age son tried to sleep in the room but in the evenings at dark, it was infested with tons of bugs - all varieties. He had to sleep in the pull out couch.
I called the owner to let him know about the bugs and he said it wasn't a problem.
When I complained about the tiny beach he said that all the beaches along North Shore are the same size. Not true. He should disclose the small size so you know that you may need to go elsewhere. There's private property along each side so you can't spread out at all. After we arrived we found out that many others have complained about the beach as well. He made up an excuse for everything I talked to him about.
The landscape was totally overgrown and every landscape light around the house is broken.
There are plenty of other houses in the area that are much better to rent for the amount of money he charged.
We had a wonderful time in the home. Everything was just perfect. The house is charming and very cozy. The beach is pristine and a very short walk (one minute) from the cottage with nice stairs leading to it. We especially enjoyed the spacious deck, outside shower and private yard. The BBQ was new and a nice touch. The street is very quite and safe. All in all it was a perfect week in lovely South Haven.
My family and I arrived to this property on July 19th for a 1 week stay. My first impression of the home was disappointing.
Very close to the beach which is beautiful. Comfortably slept my entire family. Nice front porch. South Haven is a very nice town. We were able to bring a pet, a plus!
When we arrived the trash cans were over filled with garbage causing raccoons to make a mess each night until they were finally emptied the following week.
The rug in the family room was filthy with stains. We had to roll it up and move it in the corner as no one wanted to walk on their bare feet on it. (It was very heavy to move)
One of the bedroom doors came of the hinges... very hazardous! The property management company came out the next day to temporarily fix it, not kid friendly. They are bi-fold doors.
Over grown shrubs along sidewalk.. Landscaping was not maintained, looked very messy in the backyard.
The home had an unpleasent odor. More so, the "guest house" in the back.
