This architect designed post-and-beam beauty sits high on the strand above Bedwell Bay. It is one of only a handful of homes allowed in the confines of Belcarra Regional Park, an undisturbed rainforest that surrounds it on all sides. Hiking trails begin literally at the door. Some of the Lower Mainlands best rated hikes are in the area, including the famous Jug Island route. My kayaks or easily available rental boats can be launched five minutes down the road at Belcarra picnic area. A waterfall, a variety of abandoned buildings and other points of interest punctuate a leisurely motor or paddle out Bedwell Bay and up Indian Arm. World War 2 era sunken ships in the Bay invite the scuba diver. It doesn’t get any better for the nature enthusiast. Most mornings deer will come right up to you on the deck. This is a place for quiet and relaxation, and for exploration.
After a long day getting close to nature, you will enjoy all modern comforts in the home. Standouts include a jetted soaker tub in the master bedroom, a working fireplace in the den, an Ultraline professional gas range in the kitchen, a massive natural gas feed BBQ on the 600 sq/ft deck, TVs and dvd players in every bedroom and surround sound and a 42” screen in the living room. The cedar panelling throughout gives it that distinctive woodsy smell and warmth. If it wasn’t for all the comforts, you’d feel like you had never left the forest.
Nature hikes through the surrounding forest couldn't be any more convenient. Directly across the street from the top of the property is the entry to a trail going straight into the heart of Belcarra Regional Park. Internet has details on longer hikes to Admiralty Point and Jug Island Beach. Jug Island is visible from the house to the north. Check out this website:
White Pine Beach five minutes down the road you came in on is popular all summer. Belcarra Picnic Area has tours, boat rentals and access to Indian Arm waters. Buntzen Lake nearby also has a nice beach.
If you do rent a boat or use my kayaks, you can explore all kinds of neat stuff up Indian Arm including a beautiful waterfall, the old power plant reminiscent of a gothic castle, and a haunted looking abandoned 'floating' MacDonald's restaurant left over from Expo 86!
