NEW BEAUTIFUL LAKE FRONT A FRAME HOME ON LAKE OF EGYPT

This property is nice to look at and photographs well. However, it is not a nice place to spend your precious vacation time. First off, the bed linens were dirty. They had visible stains on them that came out when laundered. The stove, fridge, and microwave were also dirty, very cheap, and I had to reassemble one of the burners on the stove. All of the patio furniture was filthy and covered in cobwebs, and we had to wipe it down before using. The bedroom with the bunk beds does not look like its photo at all (bare wood and screws showing) and the beds are for smaller children only. The double bed downstairs could not be more uncomfortable. I would suggest you sleep on the couch or in the backseat of your car instead. The listing states prominently that this place is new, it is anything but new. I would have thought it was 20 years old. Not even close to new. It also states that it is newly furnished. That may be, but it is furnished with hand me downs and mismatched thrift store offerings. The place is really cheaply built. The floors were so loud when you walked on them (gingerly) that it awakened everyone sleeping downstairs. The stairs going to the lower level were very steep, narrow, and loud. It felt unsafe when I used them. The listing states that this place sleeps 6-7 people. No way. Four small adults and two smaller children is possible, but not comfortably. Seventh person gets a mat on the floor. Who’s OK with that? Listing also states that there is a television. There is in fact a decent television in the living room. Unfortunately, your channel choices are 2 local channels, 3 WSIU channels, 3 WTCT channels and an infomercial channel. Antenna only. This was not stated in the listing at time of booking. For us, vacation means play hard and relax harder. Sometimes that means watching some T.V. The T.V. in the basement is 20 years old and has a VCR player built in so bring all your old movies that you thought you could never watch again. After staying here a total of 20 hours, I called the owner and informed her of all of these issues and that we would be leaving. She was very defensive and talked way more than she listened, said she wasn’t going to refund any of my whole weeks rental, then hung up on me. I spent a good deal of money to leave this place and stay somewhere else on the lake and it was worth every penny because I didn’t have to stay here any longer and waste our precious family vacation time. We had a great time at our “new” rental.

We had a lovely family get together (5 adults) over a long weekend and this home provided a wonderful setting. We really enjoyed taking all of our meals out on the upper balcony where we felt like we were up in the trees with the birds -- especially enjoying a couple of red-headed, hard-working woodpeckers :) And from our balcony perch, we'd watch the ducks and turtles sunning to the side of the dock -- sometimes they'd share and sometimes there'd be a bit of a competition over the prime sunning spot. The quiet inlet was perfect for swimming (so long as one is big/old enough to jump off the dock as there's no beach access), and we had a great bike ride over in Tunnel Hill, about a 30 min drive away by car. We were surprised to find out that you're not supposed to fish off a dock in Lake of Egypt and since we're not boaters, that left us with no good way to fish. But since casting a few lures was only an idle entertainment for us, not a passion, no matter. The house was lovely and inviting and met all our needs. The large kitchen/dining/great room made for a perfect social arrangement while sharing cooking and hanging out with the family. I would definitely go back again!

What can I say....we all had an absolutely wonderful time. The home was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed fishing and swimming right off the dock as well as renting jetskis and pontoon boat. I can't think of anything that could have improved our stay. I would definitely think of returning as well as recommending it to friends. Thank you for a fabulous 5 days. The actual accomodations were even better than the pictures. Due to the heat, we didn't take advantage of the trails or vineyard visits, but rather chose to remain in the water or close to airconditioning.
