Birdsong is a new, modern cottage with just over 1,500 sq.Ft of living space and an additional 500 sq.ft of verandah outdoor living. Situated on a beautifully landscaped property, framed by native trees and flowers - the property attracts local birds of all kinds, hence the name birdsong!
You will enjoy our private 3 bed/2 bath home in a quiet and secluded bahamian community (4th bed is a sofa bed in the lounge). The local beach is a short 3 minute walk away, and our second community beach is less than 5 minutes away by car. A short 15 minute drive will get you to the world famous Cabbage Beach and Atlantis Resort and Casino. Baha Mar and the 'Bahamian Riviera' is a short 25 minutes away (all times assume good traffic flow).
Enjoy a quick sandwich or a gourmet home cooked meal prepared in our fully equipped and modern kitchen which includes a stainless steel gas range and gas oven, large stainless steel fridge/freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher, garbage disposal and other kitchen must haves!
Our outdoor eating area gets you in a festive bahamian spirit as it is nestled in the gardens under massive coconut fronds! It's an especially great location to savor your favorite cocktails! Grill your catch of the day or a great steak from the nearby supermarket (less than 1 mile away) on our kettle charcoal grill!
Our master bedroom with ensuite bath has a king bed and features a walk-in closet. Our second bedroom has a queen bed, and our third bedroom has 2 single beds. Rooms 2 and 3 have easy access to a second full bathroom. Our home also boasts a convenient laundry closet with a washer/dryer for your convenience. However, in authentic bahamian style - we also have a clothes line available as no drying source is more efficient than the sun…and we have plenty of sun at birdsong in historic Nassau, Bahamas!
We are a blended family of a native Bahamian boy and a roaming New Zealander girl. Having met more than 12 years ago - we have been married almost 10 years and have made a home at birdsong for our 2 sons. Zealous travelers, we wanted to create a home that was just what a transient family would need to be super comfortable - so we know that you will be comfortable too in our beautiful Bahamian home!
Makia & Charlotte Gibson purchased this cottage in 2010
After a long search, we decided on this property because of its proximity to the beach! Also, we were captivated by its quiet and secluded location - yet it is very accessible!
The gardens are lush - and when all the flowers are in full bloom, the views and colors are resplendent! Not to mention, the fruit trees: coconuts, sea grapes, young mango and avocado trees (not yet blooming).
Property owners were very nice and helpful. Huge back yard great to relax in. Quite neighbourhood, would recommend to family and friends.
This is a great house for families or people looking to stay in non-touristy areas on the island. The house was perfect for our group of 6 adults and 1 child. The bedrooms allow for privacy and the layout of the living room and kitchen/dining is open. There are plenty of toys to keep kids occupied which was a nice surprise! The house had everything we needed to be comfortable, and Makia was very helpful with any questions we had.
The lush landscaping of this property is gorgeous and provides lots of privacy and really enhances the environment of the house. The neighborhood is full of local Bahamanians and everyone was very friendly which was lovely!
The beach is very close to the house and great for swimming but not great for little kids, so we rented a car to drive to other beaches around the island.
Thank you Makia for a wonderful stay at Birdsong! -Evin
House is great, and as advertised. Makia was super responsive and most helpful. The money we saved by being on the east end of the island allowed us to do daily adventures to other islands without feeling guilty we spent boatloads of money at a hotel. We stayed one night at the Comfort Suites and did Atlantis with the kids. Ask Makia for Joe the private driver, he was great and super cheap relative to the general cabbies who will take advantage of you. Great experience in Nassau!
Makia and Charlotte Gibson have an enchanting house on Yamacraw Hill Road on the eastern side of the island: away from the tourist areas, it is soothingly quiet except for the sound of birds!
The house is spacious, spotless, has a very well appointed kitchen and boasts the lovely art of Charlotte Gibson-all around it is very comfortable.
We had 6 adults stay for a week and all were very happy- we drove around to different beaches during the day, stopped at the supermarket and liquor store which is a half mile from the house and then enjoyed cooking our own meals.
We did go out to eat a few times: the restaurants are all very expensive but with different levels of quality.
The two restaurants I would highly recommend are
1. Goodfellow Farms, on the way to Jaws Beach, past Lyford Cay, near Clifton Point
2. Mahogany House, in Lyford Key
You would have to ask the locals for exact directions for both when you get there.
We did a barefoot sailing excursion to Rose Island for a day for $120 and it was well worth it!!! Sailing, snorkeling, beaching, and good food!! Also only 12 people on the boat, so almost like a private tour.
We had a great stay at Birdsong. The house is as pictured and was perfect for our family of four with a bedroom to spare. The yard and outside furniture was great for morning coffee, breakfast and dinner at night from our return from the beach/activity. There is a grocery store a few minutes away which was great for everything we needed. As others have said, the beach that is a block away is nice but when you're in the water it is rocky/coral bottom. So water shoes are recommended. We also used our car to explore other beaches: Cable Beach, Goodman's Bay and Cabbage Beach. These are all excellent beaches and were a short drive away (15 mins max).
Makia was an excellent host and checked in on us later in the week to make sure we were enjoying our stay and had everything we needed. The house also has a great info book and brochures with maps and great suggestions. We took advantage of Makia's suggestions and enjoyed everyone. Thanks for a great stay.
Birdsong was a great choice for our family of four. The three bedrooms, living room, dining area and kitchen allowed us a lot of space and everything was as advertised. The house was nicely furnished (see pics) and has an airy and open feeling. The garden was especially nice, landscaped beautifully and with a nice dining patio, sandbox and room to run around. Makia was a lovely host who gave us good advice and checked in a couple of times during the stay to see that things were going well. Supermarket and other stores were a very short drive away. The only drawback was that the beach, which was less than a block away, wasn't a great choice for us. There were other nearby beaches though which were idyllic… white sand, clear water, light but fun surf. We loved our vacation here and would recommend the property.
Birdsong is located in tranquil Eastern New Providence. Eastern New Providence is known for its well established and family oriented residential communities. Birdsong is located on a quiet street surrounded by established family homes. In less than 5 minutes by car, guests can reach Super Value, the oldest and most popular grocery store chain in The Bahamas. Also located within 5 minutes are fast-food restaurants (Wendy's, Dominos Pizza, Marco's Pizza to name a few) and authentic Bahamian fast-food options too - most notably Bamboo Shack. A very well stocked liquor store only 5 minutes away by car, combined with 2 community beaches, one 5 minutes by foot and the other 3 minutes by car - make our community a convenient option for those looking to get away.
For more excitement and to mingle with throngs of vacationers, the vibrant and historic Downtown Nassau is easily accessible by car. The Straw Market which is located downtown is a fun way to barter for souvenirs. There are also any number of other shopping options available downtown to suit every budget.
The world famous Atlantis Resort and Casino is a must visit as well as a swim at Cabbage Beach - one of the most beautiful and pristine in the world. Both attractions are located on Paradise Island which is a short ride away.
New Providence Island is just 21 miles long by 7 miles wide (at its widest point). Therfefore the whole Island is our community! Nothing is far away - however knowing the best time of day to travel on the roads is critical.
