Beautiful 2br. Berkeley craftsman style home, with large deck and backyard, in one of the most popular neighborhoods in Berkeley. 3 blocks from the scruptious Gourmet ghetto, and the world famous Chez Panisse restaurant; and walking distance to UC Berkeley and all public transportation. Walk to BART which takes you right into San Francisco. Downtown Berkeley has movies, theater, music, and shopping. Bay Area intellectual, political, and artistic cultural exhibits and events abound. The awesome California coast, wine country, Muir woods, are all within a couple of hours drive. There are wonderful hikes and outdoor activities both a short drive away, at the local parks, and berkeley hills, and even the neighborhood streets. BART, the train into San Francisco is less than a mile from the house. Inside is spacious, attractive, and home-like. This is not the kind of place that is only used by renters; We live in it ourselves when it isnt being rented; it is an interesting artistic home that is spacious, and has comfort and warmth. (We have a third bedroom that we can sometimes make available as well. If you use the third bedroom, it will cost $80 more/night, but we are more likely to rent to people who do not need the third bedroom because we prefer to store our things there and then close off that 3rd bedroom,if we can)

We have lived and raised our kids in this house for the last 25 years. We love the arts, culture, political, and intellectual stimulation of the Bay Area. We share this duplex with our cousins (scientist, avid surfers, and wonderful people). For the last couple of years, we have been doing a lot of commuting to D.C. for work, and thought we'd give some others an opportunity to stay in our wonderful home when we're not in it.
The Owner purchased this house in 1978
This is the home where we live. We are renting it because we are in D.C. for many weeks/year
This house has a wonderful yard, is a few blocks from the world famous Chez Pannise restaurant and the 'Gourmet Ghetto'. Its walking distance to UC Berkeley, all public transportation, including the BART that takes you into wonderful San Francisco. There's theater, movies and shopping in downtown SF, and always plenty to do on Berkeley's campus. Spend a day in wine country, Muir woods, or hanging out at one of our gorgeous beaches on the California coast. All are within 1 1/2 hours drive from the house. Public tennis courts are everywhere in Berkeley, and the famous Edible Schoolyard is 2 blocks away - as is the public swimming pool. There's always plenty to do, or you can just stay put and relax in the warm, cozy house, or out on the deck or backyard if the weather's good.
Our stay was everything we hoped it would be, allowing us to gather far-flung family to celebrate the holidays. Everything we needed was within walking distance -- the BART, restaurants, grocery stores, and Berkeley family members. The large dining room and living room had plenty of seating, and having the backyard barbeque gave us some meal flexibility. Older home has wood floors and detail, and some interesting architectural quirks that give it a unique personality. Bonus: Quiet residential neighborhood and an assigned parking space.
Our stay at this charming home was great! The location is its best feature--everything in Berkeley is within walking distance or a very short drive. The house manager was easily available for questions. We were able to cook a Thanksgiving dinner for a family of 6 as the kitchen is well stocked. We enjoyed ourselves and look forward to coming back!
We had a wonderful stay at this North Berkeley home. The location is fantastic - a nice, quiet neighborhood and is an easy walk to restaurants, parks, grocery store, farmers markets and public transportation. The home is comfortable and included some nice touches like flowers from the garden upon our arrival, a great selection of books (including for children) and a daily New York Times on the porch every morning. One thing to note, this home has a lived-in feel, which might not appeal to all, but we found added to the charm, warmth and authentic Berkeley feel.
