The Haymeadow Creek Cabin is the perfect combination of cabin coziness and modern amenities. In the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan half way between Seney and Grand Marais near the shore of Lake Superior in big snow country.
The cabin has comfortable furnishings and cabin decor. The living room has a 50' flat Plasma HDTV w/home theater surround sound system,DVD collection, Directv, Netflix & gas fireplace. The kitchen is fully furnished with stainless steel refridgerator, ice maker, microwave, stove, garbage disposal and dishwasher. 1 bedroom has 2 queen size beds.1 bedroom has a full size bed. 1 bedroom has a full size bunk beds and the middle walk thru large closet has a single size murphy bed. There is also a sofa sleeper and big couch in the living room. We are pet friendly. Enjoy the Haymeadow Creek Cabin in all four seasons. We are located in the snowbelt of the U.P. Snowmobiling is available long after the snow has melted in other areas. A major trail head is just around the corner. Plenty of plowed parking in the winter is available for sleds and large trailers. Kayak the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore or relax on the beach at Grand Marais Harbor. The sportsman will love hunting and fishing along with the spectacular autumn colors.
Why the Owner Chose Grand Marais: Located in the heart of the snowbelt and minutes away from Lake Superior and Grand Marais to the North and to the South the town of Seney and the famed Fox River where Hemingway is reported to have fished. Both communities offer restaurants, stores, gas stations, and taverns that welcome visitors. Area offers literally thousands of acres for the sportsman to hunt, fish, snowmobile, ORV, or hike and explore.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin: Seclusion from the hustle and bustle of town, no phones ringing, camp fires at night, star gazing, and the pure bliss of the sounds of nature. Pull up a chair on the front porch, grab a good book and watch the birds. Hike, canoe, kayak, hunt, fish, snowmobile, snow shoe or cross country ski out the back door.
I'm an avid outdoorsman who love's to hunt, fish, snowmobile, and spend time with family and friends around the campfire on a starry night. I believe in work hard, play hard and love the challenge of exploring this wonderful playground and all it has to offer.
Scott Janke purchased this cabin in 1996
The cabin is located in the middle of the snowbelt that ranges from Munising to Whitefish Pt. There are thousands of acres of wilderness which is either state owned or privately held by corporate or private owners. Miles upon miles of country that one can use and explore. The access to the cabin is key during the winter, we are located on the state highway instead of in a remote area where it is difficult to get into during or after heavy snowfall.
We offer all the comforts of home with the cabin atmosphere.
Overall experience – Excellent
The cabin was decorated very nice. Any person who hunts or appreciates the wildlife would truly enjoy the atmosphere. Located between the National Picture Rocks and Tahquamenon Falls great day trips. We also went to Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum where the Edmond Fitzgerald went down. Very interesting place just Northwest of the Tahquamenon Falls. Also, located nearby in Gemfask was the Seney National Wildlife Refuge. On 2 separate days we canoed and kayaked the Manistique River through the Refuge.
We would recommend this place to anybody who wants to enjoy the upper peninsula during the day and have quiet evenings at night.
I’d Recommend This Property for:
Families with young children
Families with teenagers
The property was neither clean nor well maintained. The owner provided poor customer service. There are rusted out BBQ grills on the front porch and other trash. The living room ceiling fan blades had 1/4" of accumulated dust and dirt on them, they had never been cleaned. When we arrived the cabin was locked and no key was available. We were told it would be open with the key on the kitchen table. We got the key from the caretaker across the street. When we went in the cabin had not been cleaned from the previous guests. Dirty linens, dirty bathroom etc. We called the owner who told us we could clean it ourselves and he'd wave the cleaning fee or we could leave and he'd refund our money. It was night and we had no other place to go. This was not the way we wanted to start our vacation. He finally agreed to send a cleaning lady AND refund our cleaning fee . When we got our CC statement he had only refunded a partial amount. He dodged our calls and e-mails for weeks. When he finally answered his phone he told us that the remaining amount not refunded was a caretaker fee . I advised him that there was no caretaker fee in the contract he then said he had changed his mind on the full cleaning fee refund. This is poor business. The cabin advertises Wifi when in reality the internet is pirated from the guy across the street on an unsecure network and you have to stand in front of the living room window to get a signal, if you're lucky. The furniture is old, dirty and worn out. The caretaker was banging on the front door at 8:00 AM the day of our departure asking us when we were going to leave. Overall this was a poor experience saved only by the excellent snowmobiling and the great TV with surround sound and movie collection. Don't forget if you rent this cabin you have to take your own trash home with you or pay a fee. We knew this ahead of time so we brought it home but really? The cabin would have been o.k. if it was just a guy trip
Nice Cabin. a great place to stay if you want to visit both Picture Rock and Upper/Lower falls. Nice Owner. greatest kitchen stuff & tools. One is not good for a big group: only one Bathroom!!
Great accommodations, great location for snowmobiling....What more could we ask for?! Already planning on another trip next year....Or maybe two trips!
The cabin was very nice and well outfitted, the only down side was the lack of trash disposable we had to take it with us and dispose of whan we returned home. We would likely book the same week again next year if it is available
My husband, dog, and I had never been to the UP and decided to take a fall trip to check it out. We randomly picked Haymeadow Creek as the place to stay, but we could not have been more lucky with our choice. This cabin was the perfect get a way for us, far removed from the hustle and bustle, but close enough to the small villages of Grand Marais and Seney. The cabin came stocked with everything we could have possibly needed, pots, pans, dishes, cooking spices, linens, even dvds. It was meticulously cleaned before our arrival and the mattress was perhaps the most comfortable I've ever slept on. Before, during, and after our arrival Scott promptly answered any questions we had. While we were in the UP we did some off-roading, visited the Upper and Lower Tahquamenon Falls, met some good company and tasted some good brews at the Lake Superior Brewing Company, enjoyed the amazing fall colors, had campfires under the most awesome skies full of more stars than I have ever seen, and most importantly had a few days away from the office. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back again! I would absolutely recommend this place to friends and family and will most likely be back again ourselves. PS: The best part of the trip for me was watching our dog run on the beaches of Lake Superior - he had a blast playing in the sand and water!
The cabin is great. I went there with my wife and three children (13,11,8). We rented atv's from the Outfitters in Grand Marais and hit the trails for two days. The trails come in right behind the cabin. Convenience was optimal. My kids have insisted that we return. The cabin is fully stocked. I have a rental on Homeaway and VRBO. I took a few notes while staying at Haymeadow for my own rental. We enjoy the outdoors and this was perfect. The kids took their 22 rifles and did a little shooting. They loved the whole stay and experience. The wife was delighted with the accommodations. Definitely going back soon.
