Enjoy watching the peaceful and serene 1/2 acre pond from the back deck, where it will have a calming and soothing effect on you. This 1/2 acre pond is located directly behind the cottage stocked with numerous bluegills for your fishing enjoyment. There is also a floating dock on the pond where you can catch some rays of sunshine if you wish.
The hummingbirds buzzing around the back deck are very entertaining. You will enjoy sitting on the back deck and watching the antics of these beautiful small birds. You may even get close enough to take great pictures.
Feel free to take a walk around the property; breathe in the fresh, country air. You may even get a glance of deer or turkey.
Located within the confines of the Daniel Boone National Forest, this property is secluded yet not remote. It is the perfect place to relax, recharge, and leave all of your worries behind.
From the pond just steps away from the cottage to the rolling hills and mature forest beyond, your eyes will behold the beauty and wonders that abound here.
Feel free to feed carrots and apples to our three horses. The horses love our guests, especially ones who come bearing treats for them!

My husband Pete and I are orginally from Northern Illinois. We moved down to Kentucky in 2001, and absolutely love it here. Pete had lived in Kentucky in the past when he attended MSU and fell in love at that time with the beautiful countryside. We currently have a small farm and raise chickens and have three pleasure horses for our personal use, plus Holstein calves.
Julee Skarka purchased this cottage in 2001
We love horses and living in the country, and when we first set eyes on this piece of property, it was love at first sight! We really do feel like we have a small piece of heaven right here. The rolling hillsides, the deep woods, and the beautiful sunrises and sunsets just confirm the fact that we made the right choice by moving to Kentucky.
We are very near to the Daniel Boone National Forest which gives us great wooded views all around. There are numerous trails everywhere, great for both horseback riding and hiking, which we both love to participate in. We chose this property over all others because of it's beauty, tranquility, and seclusion.
We desire that you would feel 'at home' while you are here, and we are dedicated to give you the best service possible. It is our goal that every guest who visits comes away feeling refreshed and re-newed, and our hope is that you would desire to visit us again in the future.
This cottage offers the perfect country charm to a relaxing getaway. It is extremely clean and has everything you will need to enjoy your time away. The owners, Pete and Julee, were so welcoming and had homemade cookies for us on our arrival and even treats for our dog. We enjoyed watching the farm animals and fishing in the bluegill pond. We had our morning coffee sitting on the front porch overlooking the pond and sat there in the evenings listening to the bullfrogs and wild turkey. Such a relaxing weekend. We also ventured out to visit Cumberland Falls which was about a half hour away and stopped at the original KFC in Corbin on the way back. Thanks to Pete and Julee for an amazing getaway. We will certainly recommend this country cottage to our friends.
If you are looking for something fancy, keep looking but if you are looking for sweet country charm, this is the place for you. We arrived to find homemade cookies for my husband and I as well as treats for our dog, Skeeter. Pete and Julee provide a well stocked cottage for our stay. We enjoyed fishing in the well stocked bluegill pond. We also enjoyed walking around the property and watching the all the farm animals. We drank our morning coffee sitting on the porch overlooking the pond and in the evening we listened to the croaking bullfrogs. We were provided seed for the various birds to come in for a snack. We saw cardinals, finch, and even a woodpecker. There was also a hummingbird feeder where at least four or five birds sipped from the feeder throughout the day. The inside of the cabin was very relaxing. The bedroom was well cooled with just the ceiling fan. If the weather had been cooler, we would have enjoyed the cozy feeling that would have been given by the gas log fireplace. The only thing I would have change about this sweet little cottage would be a new mattress as my back began to ache after about four hours sleep, but that just may have been my problem. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay and will consider returning in the fall. Thanks to Pete and Julee for a wonderful long weekend.
This is a very cute cabin set back in a beautiful remote setting. It was very clean and Julee made it very easy to find and check in. Loved sitting on the porch enjoying the pond and surroundings. A few things would need to change before I would go back though - the bed, the sofa and wifi limits. If you like a hard bed, this one will be perfect for you. The sofa is a hide-a-bed and well that's just the nature of that type of sofa - we didn't use it as a bed just to sit on but still not comfortable to lounge on. It rained most of our stay so we spent more time inside watching movies than we otherwise would have and we used up our allotment of wifi for streaming movies very quickly. Had we known there was a limit we would have brought more dvds and maybe that was included in the online information and I didn't catch it. All in all, this is a nice get away for the money and if you aren't picky about the bed, then go for it! Also Gondalier in London has awesome pizza and to-die-for desserts - get the Baklava Cheesecake!
This little cabin is the best get away ever! Looking forward to going back and spending sometime during nicer weather.
We arrived at dark after driving quite a distance and Julee stayed on the phone guiding us to the cabin. Even in the dark I knew it was lovely.
We were able to settle in quickly, the cabin was warm and very welcoming. Come sunshine, the beauty took away all thoughts of needing to do anything but breath.
My dogs were able to roam the property and meet the farm animals, which were extermely friendly.
The kitchen had everything I needed to cook all our meals and bake delicious treats.
The birds that are around this cabin are incredible. Truly a sanctuary.
For rest, relaxation, calm and comfort, this was perfect.
Julee and Pete, thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with guests.
God's blessings to you both.
We cannot wait to come back to the cottage. If we didn't have so much family to visit I wouldn't have minded driving all the way from NY just to stay in the rental all day. The cabin was immaculate and every detail and accommodation you could think of was available. Cozy, warm, private and absolutely made me hate coming home. We will be back again and again, no more hotels or relatives' couches!
