Need a quiet place to unwind and relax? This farm is 600 acres of oaks, dogwoods, pines and wildflowers surrounded by the Bankhead National Forest, with no neighbors in sight!
Why do we call it the River Art House? It sits on a bluff overlooking Clear Creek, the 'River' part. It was constructed by an artist named Art Fowler, whose original art still hangs throughout the cabin. Amazing!
IF you need more than 2 bedrooms and don't mind spreading your group out a bit, we also have the Bungalow cabin on the same property. Or if you would rather rent a bit smaller, more cozy spot, you may decide to rent only the Bungalow. We rent it for $80/night, plus cleaning fee. The Bungalow is a 1 bedroom, 1 bath, living room and wonderful kitchen upstairs over the barn. It is about 100 yards from the River Art Cabin. The Bungalow has a nice deck overlooking a meadow that leads down to Clear Creek and the Secret Beach! It is a cozy and relaxing spot in and of itself. See the last few photos for what it looks like!
You may want to spend your days fishing or tubing the creek or exploring the incredible canyons of the Sipsey Wilderness. Perhaps you would enjoy mountain biking the miles of Bankhead National Forest roads near by. Love hiking and backpacking, the Sipsey has many miles of hiking trails.
Love to hunt? Check out the Bankhead National Forest! You can drive just a few miles and hunt on National Forest land.
Enjoy birdwatching? What about a night with no street lights for perfect stargazing? This is the place for you!
There is a full kitchen in both cabins, but if you'd rather not cook, hop in the car and run to Double Springs for a homecooked Italian meal at the Sapore Grill!
There are two bedrooms in the RIver Art Cabin, the Master bedroom has a king size bed and a private upstairs deck with a sliding glass door. There is a private Master bath also. The second bedroom has a bunk bed.
One of my favorite parts of the place is the Gazebo, a beautiful structure set atop a sandstone bluff overlooking a shoals of Clear Creek about 70 feet below. You can enjoy a sunset with a glass of wine sitting on the gazebo listening to the rippling creek below. Or wake up early and walk down the path to the gazebo with a hot cup of coffee.
You can stroll for miles on our dirt roads or walk down the path to Clear Creek and take a dip in the cool waters that are a tributary to Smith Lake.
Truly remote. This cottage is at the end of the road... literally! You will drive down a small country road for about 4 miles and when the road ends... you are home!

We bought this place for the pure joy of owning a remote piece of Nature on the banks of Clear Creek!
There is nothing quite like communing with nature in a beautiful place near a moving stream. You will find it valuable to spend some quiet time just sitting on the porch or gazebo and listening to nature!
Was a nice place to stay. Very quiet and secluded. Owners very nice and when I was booking the trip and had questions she answered them immediately. She even emailed us directions. Would stay there again.
This property is everything as advertised and more. The Gazebo provides a stunning view. The walk to the secret beach is beautiful, and upon arriving at the beach, it just gets better. House clean and spacious. If you are looking for an extremely secluded and beautiful escape, look no further.
My company was surveying a portion of the Bankhead National Forest. So, myself and three crew members stayed in the cabin for a total of 9 weeks. It was wonderful. It was very clean, we had everything we needed for cooking, as well as towels and linens. The price was also more than reasonable. The surrounding scenery is gorgeous. The gazebo above the sandstone bluffs offered an amazing area for relaxing, and the secret beach was easy to find and beautiful. The owners were more than friendly, and we hung out with them several times over the stay. They were always quick to respond if we had questions, or needed anything (which really wasn't that often). We enjoyed our stay so much that we are currently set to rent another property from the same owner in the Talladega National Forest for another four week survey. I would recommend this cabin for either a relaxing weekend getaway, or a prolonged vacation.
This is such a wonderful place. It's so private and sits high above Clear Creek. We just love this cabin.
This place was absolutely wonderful. My husband and I have six children and very busy lives. It's always go go go! We decided to rent the cabin for the weekend and were so satisfied with it. We were so happy with the location and peaceful place. It was exactly what we needed to get away and relax! The gazebo and secret beach were absolutely awesome. I cannot describe how awesome and relaxing it was for us away from our busy lives. The cabin was clean and peaceful and the fireplace was so cozy and romantic. We will absolutely stay here again. We were so pleased with the cabin, the cleansiness and peacfulness. It was absolutely awesome. I felt so relaxed and refreshed after a weekend here! LOVED IT!!!
We loved our stay! We arrived late Friday afternoon and set off immediately to find the secret beach--such a neat spot! Then we watched a beautiful sunset from the gazebo, which is a lovely spot high on an overlook. We were going to grill dinner, but couldn't get the gas grill to ignite...but there were plenty of kitchen tools to make a dinner with. We spent the rest of the night playing games on the porch. Saturday we enjoyed coffee on the patio before making our way to Bankhead National Forest for hiking in the Sipsey Wilderness area, only about 20 minutes away--beautiful! We stopped for charcoal on the way back, so enjoyed grilling on our second night. The house was tidy and a great place to get away from everything and truly relax! We will come back.
