A home to relax and have fun in, The Big House is a perennial favorite among vacationers. With 80' of beach frontage, a private dock, wrap-around porch and panaromic views of the Sea of Abaco, the Big House is perfect for an authentic island get-away. Sleeping up to ten, the home has two well-appointed bedroom suites downstairs with A/C, a unique third bedroom the 'crow's nest,' 2.5 bathrooms, and a fantastic 'open' living space including a full kitchen. The Big House combines casual elegance with private island living and is cozy enough for two, yet roomy enough for larger groups.

We have just returned from our stay at "The Big House" and our family had a blast!!! We had two families staying in the house for a total of 8 people. It was the perfect size as the kids had room to move and relax. Our 4 kids ranged in ages of 9-14 and they are already wanting to go back. The home is open and laid out perfect for cooking out and entertaining in the main area. The bedrooms stay cool in the evenings via AC and there is nothing better than an open air shower. We had other friends staying next door and "The Big House" served as the gathering and eating place. It is a rustic "true" Island experience. There are no taxis available and Lubbers is a small island with little "traditional" entertainment, so renting a boat is a must. There is entertainment on the nearby islands, but we found ourselves eventually gathering back at Cracker P's and Lubbers Landing located on Lubbers. Great food and drinks and friendly staffs. There is never a dull moment if you enjoy diving, fishing, boating, exploring and relaxing. If you want a change from the traditional resort type vacation, this is for you.
Big House is a wonderful house situated on the beach, private dock, great views of Tilloo Island and Tilloo Cut. Convenient to fishing, snorkeling, town, restaurants, etc. Nicely furnished and very spacious living areas, love the screen porch. Great kitchen; 3 bedrooms with 2 1/2 baths. Could not find a better spot in the Abacos to stay! Would recommend this house to anyone! Caretaker, Chad, was available and helpful, but not intrusive. Listing is accurate and represents the property well. Some great new restaurants now available nearby, Lubbers Landing and Firefly, and of course the mainstay, Cracker P's.
We had a wonderful stay at The Big House.
This was a family trip with my children and my parents, and everyone loved it.
The location and the view are exceptional.
Everyone swam, fished from the dock, relaxed on the beach or on the porch looking at the water for hours...
The upstairs is awesome for cooking, entertaining, relaxing, playing games, you name it!
And of course, it is the Abacos so everyone is friendly and helpful and the water all around is gorgeous.
We had a wonderful time.
Don't let the one bad review prevent you from staying at the Big House. We had a group of 11 stay here and just loved the place. We called it our "tree house" as the main room is open with a screened porch. It was ideal for everyone to be together: play games, cook dinner, relax in a hammock, and take in the absolutely beautiful views. There's something about this area that will suck you in and you'll never want to leave - paradise on the water.
The Big House was clean and had everything we needed: linens, towels, soap, TP, spices, grill, kayaks, fishing gear, etc. The reservation process was very simple and the owners are happy to share their wealth of knowledge of the area. They went out of their way to make sure we were happy and had everything that we needed.
We also loved the beach just in front of the house as well as fishing off the dock. You don't have to go anywhere, if you choose to just take advantage of everything at your fingertips.
I highly recommend the Big House!
I have been coming to Lubbers since 1992. I have only missed two years since then. In 1992 there was no electricity and VHF was the main communication tool. I have stayed at the Big House most of those years and love it. Now there is electricity, air conditioning, cell phones and other amenities but it still hasn't lost it's "Swiss Family Robinson" feeling of Caribbean adventure. It is the perfect headquarters for families or friends that love to get away (or need to get away) from the TV and a roped-off fake resort. The ability to be in control of your boating, island hopping, snorkeling, fishing, or just kicking back and enjoying a Kalik from the porch are just some of the things that have drawn me back year after year. The owners were extremely helpful and flexible with planning and schedules. And the house has always been clean and well maintained. Can't wait to go this year.
What a great place to get away and truly unwind. My husband and I spent a week here (with 4 grandaughters) over Thanksgiving and it was unanimous that this was our best holiday yet. We had plenty of room to spread out and become islanders. We hiked the island, met the neighbors ( including two resident dogs that charmed our girls), swam, kayaked and sailed around the neighboring islands. The house was perfect, very Hemingway-like, authentic island charm, comfortable and well appointed it had everything we needed. The owners were helpful and gave us many tips as to where to get groceries, where to eat and sights to see. The view I had every morning with my coffee was of a beautiful Sea of Abaco and at night sipping wine on the dock we could hear the water and enjoy the brilliant stars.....You are literally right on the beach and we could watch the girls playing in the water from the porch. I would recommend this property to couples, families or friends just looking for the perfect island getaway....
