The tiny town that’s known for its artistic scene also has a fast evolving culinary niche, so make time to explore Marfa’s “foodie” side! Stroll over to Maiya’s Restaurant or the French café, Cochineal, or visit the best known eating destination, The Food Shark, specializing in local food and housed under the gigantic shade pavilion downtown that is also home to the Farmer’s Market. Want to just hang out? Padre’s (housed in a former funeral home) is the place for great live entertainment, pinball machines, jukeboxes and pool tables, or go low-key and grab a cup of coffee at Frama Coffee Shop and tour the historical architecture of the Presidio County Courthouse anchoring the classic Texas town square!
Casa Julian is a family owned home away from home that sleeps 6 comfortably. The kitchen is fully stocked with staples and cookware making it easy to shop at The Get Go Grocery for the main items and prepare delicious meals in the comfort of your retreat. Sorry, no pets!
The cool, high desert of Marfa is known for hiking/walking, highly recommended bike tours, beautiful surroundings, and dark skies--the stars at night are big and bright! Big Bend National Park enacts measures to protect their night sky, therefore, the star gazing is wonderful on clear nights. Be warned, the historic railroad tracks accommodate many trains rolling through nightly blaring their horns, so bring your ear plugs, or choose to sleep soundly inside Casa Julian’s double-paned windows on a quiet street!
Whether you are coming to Marfa and the Big Bend area to celebrate the Marfa Lights Festival, simply relax or to visit one of the local art galleries or museums, make sure your day ends on a quiet note, stargazing on the patio at Casa Julian--the perfect place to contemplate life and journal your heart out.
