I grew up in Harlem so I know the neighborhood like the back of my hand. I take great pride in knowing the history on some buildings, blocks and even the people. I couldn't imaging moving away from my hometown that has become so popular.
Tae Tiwoni purchased this townhome in 2000
This property is in the perfect location for your first visit to New York or Harlem. Weather you are driving or plan to take public transportation you will have quick access to just about everything the Big Apple has to offer.
3 blocks to train service 4,5,6
3 blocks to Metro North - Connecticut - Grand Central
3 blocks to Bus service - downtown and crosstown from 125th street
3-blocks to FDR drive - highway to downtown Manhattan / Brooklyn
4 blocks to Triborough Bridge - Queens
4 blocks to Major Deegan Expressway - Bronx
The townhouse is very spacious - we were two adults and five teenagers and there was plenty of room. Very clean - the kitchen is modern and nice. The owner was very helpful and made everything easy - short walk to the Metro.
I would stay here again -
My first time in NYC with my mom and aunt, with this unit we each got to have a bedroom all to ourselves and didn't have to share one bathroom. Since my aunt has bad knees the fact that she could stay right on the first floor was a major plus for her. The kitchen is definitely quite nice with a stainless steel fridge, microwave, dishwasher, etc.The lower bathroom was surprisingly large, and seemed wheelchair friendly should you need it. Tae was also quite responsive to anything we needed. Don't let the fact that it's in Harlem scared you- it's not like what you've seen in the movies. I never felt unsafe. It's predominantly black and that's about it. Subway is about a 6 minute walk too
That having been said, I do have a few complaints. The 2 upstairs bedrooms have to share a bathroom that's half the size of the bathroom that only has to be used by 1 bedroom. Seems a bit ass-backward. There's also no ventilation so it gets warm quite fast. Speaking of warm, it would also run out of hot water within 10-15 minutes, though the sink would still give piping hot water? Didn't make much sense. Because there are wood floors, any sounds made by the unit above us REEEEALLLLYYYYY carry. Was woken up by what sounded like jogging triceratops dropping bowling balls on the floor. The street-facing bedroom in the upper bedroom only has a razor-thin curtain over the window that is very easy to see through and made my mother a little uncomfortable. Why weren't blinds put on the windows?
All in all it still fit our needs and if I was travelling in the same situation again I would likely stay here again, and hope that Tae would read this and make a few improvements. He seems like someone who would care enough to implement them.
My family & I stayed at this property for 5 nights & did not have 1 single complaint. The house met all our needs and then some. All the beds were very comfortable including the pullout in the lounge & the house was very clean. During our stay we used the Subway a few times which is within walking distance, also caught cabs to time square ($15-$20) & even walked to central park (15-20mins). Everything we needed was right around the corner.
What stood out for us the most was the host. Firstly Tae met us at the front door showed us around the house & then took us on a tour of the neighborhood. Throughout our entire stay Tae kept in contact with us to see how we were going. We needed extra sheets & they were promptly delivered. He even organised a transport service to take us back to the airport (which was cheaper than all the taxi/shuttle services). All in all I highly recommend this property & host we were first time visitors to New York & if we return we know where we will be staying, Thanks again Tae!
What a fantastic experience! I couldn't be more pleased with our stay at Tae's apartment. The apartment is exactly as represented in the photos and description - spacious, clean, well decorated, and well stocked with everything you need. Just a very short walk to the subway station provided us easy and fast transportation to every where we wanted to go in New York. And there was even a convenient and cheap bus ride back to the airport!
We are a family of 4 with two teenagers. After staying in this lovely apartment, I can't imagine ever choosing to stay in a hotel again! Everyone had their own bedroom, and the two bathrooms were a lifesaver! Adding the kitchen, living room, and backyard, it was as convenient as being at home. And the location is great - restaurants, grocery stores, and subway all within easy walking distance.
Tae was a terrific host, always available to help answer questions and offer suggestions to make your trip the best it can be. He met us at the apartment, gave us a tour around the whole neighborhood, and even drove us to a great restaurant for dinner. He made sure we were always comfortable and had everything we needed. Thank you, Tae, for a great vacation stay. We will definitely recommend you to all our friends!
Spent a week at Tae's apartment. 5 of us stayed here, more than enough space for everyone to be comfortable. Tae was an absolutely wonderful host. He was very helpful, and made our trip special. He even brought a cake in for my mum's birthday, recommended places to see and visit! The place was very clean, bright, and comfortable. It was very close to the train station, easy to get around. There was a large grocery store walking distance away, and a nice park and outdoor pool close by.
Was very impressed overall with everything, would certainly stay here again. Thanks Tae!
Tae's property was a clean, comfortable, spacious and secure haven for 5 adults (3 from Canada, who had not visited NYC before) and 2 from the UK) to return to after our daily excursions.
Tae was very friendly and helpful and was always available (he could be reached by text/phone and always replied promptly). He was open to our feedback and acted on suggestions given.
The property was good value for money, with a great modern kitchen. It was a short walk to a huge supermarket and there was a drugstore nearby. We were close to the subway ($30 for a weekly pass bought at the local subway station) and the North Metro line. Taxis were a reasonably priced option. Several churches were within walking distance - we had a comfortable walk to 1 Corinthians church on the Sunday. Our daughter, who enjoys longer runs, jogged twice from the property to Central Park and back.
The Metro North Line at the nearby overhead station (White Plains train) took us to the New York Botanical Gardens which gave us a "quiet day" after some hectic sightseeing, and to get the benefit of our New York passes.
A computer, including WIFI, was supplied and cable TV provided.
We enjoyed our first visit and our accommodation in NYC very much. Tae did a great job to make our visit special.
