Tunel region, which is home to numerous art galleries, local tea and cafe shops, various eateries, jazz bars and bistros, you are steps away from the famous high street, Istiklal. You also have very easy access to touristic sights of the City, namely Sultanahmet region, Agia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Grand Bazaar and Spice Market.
Tunel, gets its name from the World's second oldest metro, now a symbol of the City, has been tying Beyoglu-Galata to Karakoy where you take the tram for Historical Peninsula, since 1871. In the old times, Beyoglu (pera) where Tunel is situated as well, happened to be one of the most prestigious residential areas and Karakoy was the popular trade center of Istanbul. Businessmen living in Pera had to walk everyday to Karakoy. A French engineer who had noticed the need, had proposed this 581 mt railway project to the Ottoman Sultan and the construction has started right after when the permission was granted. Since then, trains are going back and forth between Karakoy and Tunel in every 3 minutes and the trip takes about 1,5 minutes.
