What happens when an arts entrepreneur and creator of 'ThinkBig!' gets together with an Emmy award winning film editor? She reads his personal ad (“FUN, 52, RECENT NYC transplant, sexy, successful, attractive arts entrepreneur, child like, sensitive, open, honest and well therapied...”), They meet, marry and move from Santa Monica, CA. to the West Village...until 9/11. Bob was 'ground zero.' It was time to leave. We fell in love with the Catskill region and ended up buying a home! We've been here full time since 2005.
Bob Malkin and Barbara Pokras purchased this cottage in 2013
Bob is obsessed with water. We are the owners of The Waterfall House, our first vacation rental home set on Niobe Falls. When the cottage down the road became available, we couldn't say no. After a full year of top to bottom renovation, A Stream Side Cottage, L.L.C., is brand new and ready for you!
Palenville is an unspoiled gem offering the magic of the Catskill Mountains with proximity to Woodstock, Saugerties, Hunter Mountain and the town of Hudson, a
destination for art and antique collectors.
My family and I had a wonderful weekend at the Streamside Cottage. We found the home as represented in the photos, very comfortable and extremely well-appointed. We had everything we needed and more. Barbara and Bob seem to have thought of everything and made sure our stay was exceptional, responding to our few requests within minutes. They were thoughtful enough to also have a "welcome package" for the dog. Our toddler very much enjoyed running around in the yard, exploring by the creek, climbing the steps of the porch, running around the house and bath-time in the claw foot tub. Our dog just loved being outdoors and playing in the rushing stream. My husband and I enjoyed the quiet time away from NYC and the jumps to Saugerties and Woodstock. Overall a wonderful experience. Thank you also for the welcome gifts. I would recommend this property for a weekend or even an extended stay. Hope you have as wonderful a time as we did.
Very nice home, fully equipped and cozy. Good location for skying and hiking. It must be very beautiful in summer/autumn as well and I am looking forward to come back then:-)
the cottage was beautiful!! Stream directly behind cottage and could not have asked for a more beautiful and peaceful stay. Both landlords Bob and Babs were a delight. After being out of the country multiple times, this had to be the best vacation/ get - away I've ever experienced.
We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary here and as soon as we walked in the cottage we knew that this was going to be the perfect place for us to celebrate our very special day. There were balloons and a basket of goodies waiting for us; so thoughtful. The cottage is beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. It was very cleaned and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything you need and more to cook the perfect meal, spacious open floor plan, gorgeous bathroom and cozy bedroom with comfy bed and lots of pillows to choose from. But the most beautiful thing is that as soon as you walked in the door the beautiful view of the woods and creek is right in front of you thanks to the wall sliding doors. Steps below is the creek and a clearly marked path to the waterfalls; just gorgeous. We certainly loved this place and so did our dog Max. They provided bowls, treats and a bed for him to lounge around on. This place will forever hold a special place in our hearts and we will definitely be back.
As we entered the cottage we found Happy Birthday balloons and gifts as well as goodies for our dog Sammy. The owners are so thoughtful. The Cottage and the view exceeded our expectations. Thank you for a peaceful and relaxing stay!
My husband and I brought our lab and chihuahua along for our 1 year wedding anniversary. It was amazing and we weren't ready to go home. The location of the creekside cottage is perfect! Just take a short walk up the creek and there are a series of waterfalls and swimming holes. Our dogs were both loving life and the adventures this place provides. A 5 minute drive around the corner brings you to kaaterskill falls which is gorgeous and breathtaking the entire hike. The cottage is nestled in just the right location so that it appears to be the only building around as you watch the creek from the back deck. We would love to come back and explore this area some more in a different season!
