The REAL Pura Vida!
I rented this house at the end of November with 5 other of my college girlfriends. We were looking for an exotic get-a-way with lots of adventure, a relaxing and secluded beach, and an opportunity to get to know the culture of this country.
On our way to Pachote, we quickly realized from the reactions of locals that we were headed somewhere most tourist don't go, so we knew we were in for a treat. When we arrived we realized that the village of Pachote is a small, very nestled community, away from most tourism, filled with friendly locals. We really got to experience the "Pura Vida" while at this village.
The house was perfect for us with just the bare minimums. We bought fresh mahi mahi and shrimp from men who just rode by the house. Incredible! The only 2 negatives about the house itself, which aren't really negatives, just something to be aware of, is that the neighbor has about 8-10 dogs that feel right at home in the yard and on the porch of the rental. They are very friendly, and gave a sense of security (they barked when people walked by at night), but I don't think they are treated for fleas, and we were all bitten up! The other let down was the beach itself. The views and surrounding were wonderful, but there was trash ALL OVER the beach, even broken bottles and such. Kinda made us nervous about going barefoot, and swimming.
Other than that, not a single complaint!!! I highly recommend Zuma tours for your excursions. Incredible customer service, very friendly, and gave us genuine care. In fact, if you care to do the sail to Tortuga Island, they can pick you up at the end of the beach that the house is on!!!
We went end of October and into November. All our research told us this is the "tail-end" of the rainy season, but we had plenty of sun!! Also, we went to visit Playa Hermosa and Quepos the last two days of our trip, with are much more touristic destinations, and we didn't have to deal with all the crowds and traffic like you might in the high season. It was a good time to go.
Finally, I have to tell you about the bioluminescence! Because of the "red tide" as the locals call it, the ocean was filled with plankton that glows with movement in the water. While it made visibility for snorkeling almost impossible, it was an incredible experience to swim in at night!!!
Tourists without a Car,
Families with Teenagers,
Owner's Response: Thank you Becca for your two reviews. I just wanted to let you and readers know that this past week we put up a fence around the deck so no dogs can lounge on the deck. I have also asked our property manager to have our property staff to clean up any debris if there is any on the beach right outside of our house when people are checking in. This should help deal with the issues you had while you were there. Thank you again.
